Yes, it starts to bind as soon as I apply any torque to the cassette lock-ring.
It feels fine without the cassette installed.

    No, it wasn’t DT grease.
But the problem occurs during assembly, before riding, so I can’t see that the grease is the problem??

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Its an old hub, at least 10 years, though hasn’t had a particularly hard life I’d say.
    Springs the correct way round.
    Light grease as lube.

    Stumped…

Yes, there is a tubular ring spacer that slides over the axle.
And 2 springs, one for each ratchet ring.
It’s such a simple setup, that’s what has me puzzled.

    Sounds good, thanks folks.

Folks, what is the latest on the trails? I plan to head over next week.

Forestry England still says the trails are closed for maintenance:
    https://www.forestryengland.uk/eastridge-woods/activities

And the Eastridge Trail Partnership group on Facebook also says they are still in the process of being re-opened, but that was 18th May and nothing since.

It’s my favourite place, I hope everything is OK. Anyone able to give an update?

    Thanks.

Thanks all. We did the Backtor (right hand) option yesterday and it was great. A bit of everything as a few people have said.

Folks, going to need to hire bikes as well, do many of these places have decent bike rental?

    Thanks.

I’ve been looking at the carbon CGR-SL which looks really nice as well.

    Anyone have one?

I might pop into Birmingham sometime to have a look.

Anyone know if these frames are ‘generic’ or designed exclusively by Ribble?

Onzadog, all your points in the earlier post are correct, but I am really enjoying mine.

Riding off-piste at Cannock and FoD, just brilliant fun,.

Thanks. That’s sure a long thread, but not much actual experience, apart from one person as far as I can tell.

    Rich, we need a picture.
HYD: “KILL TRAIL Death SLED”, sounds like fun!

So it is, glad I got one at the reduced price! 🙂

Not ridden it yet, but it looks lovely.

Thanks folks. Seems they were not popular for some reason, i guess over-priced originally.

What else is there out there similar?

I’ve been running a WTB Cross Boss 35c ‘TCS’ ‘Light’ on the rear, but I keep flatting when I smack it into stuff, although tubeless.
Not sure I have clearance for a 40C.

Any recommendations for something a bit more robust? I’m not worried about a bit of extra weight.

Or should I just run higher pressures (40 psi currently)?

It seems to be a common opinion that the Mavic Crossroc rims are too flexy and too narrow, has anyone tried, or is it possible, to replace just the rim with something wider and stiffer?

    Just a thought……

Basque MTB. Hondarribia is a lovely small town with a great beach. Doug is super-obliging, I’m sure he would help you find an apartment in the town or next to the beach.
    Riding is superb.

Scaled, yes, I have that kit, but that tool is open. I want one with a closed end.
The guide said that those ‘anchovy’ things are great for bigger holes, but for very small ones, a doubled-up strip of inner tube is better.

I seem to have collected a few 1.5″ stems. 🙂
I have an unused Truvativ 40mm
A well used silver Sunline 50mm
And the original Cannondale 80mm, also unused.

    Let me know if interested.

    Question on the Lefty ‘Lockout’.

I can feel a difference in that the damping feels much firmer when ‘locked’, but it is nothing like a full lockout.

Does that match other’s experience? Or do you get a full lockout?

    Thanks.

My XL Carbon Trigger arrived yesterday, looks great. I need to find some fatter grips, and maybe shorten some cables/hoses, then will be ready to go.
Has anyone done anything about protecting the downtube and the exposed cables & hoses? Or should I stop worrying?

    To quote Joolsburger…..

    This bloody, bloody, bloody thread.

Tempted by a Trigger 2, but the L seem to have gone. I’m between 6’1″ and 6’2″, ‘normal’ proportions. Will an XL be OK?

Anyone my height with an XL?

    Thanks.

Chainslapper was great. There was some old brickwork near the top that made an interesting drop-off.

Hi, I have a 68mm Praxis converter for Shimano if you are interested. Fitted but un-used as it was incompatible with the internal cable routing on my frame.
Mail me if interested. £35 posted.

Scotroutes, thanks, what panniers do you use with them?

    Dekerf853

OK, thanks Dave. Is that the ‘Appalachian’ pannier?

They seem to do loads with no particular recommendation of what panniers suit which rack, it’s confusing……..

Trying to follow a GPX file from a ride a few years ago, with somebody who seemed to know it pretty well.
The highlight was some off-piste stuff near Ellwood, is that still there?
    Any route recommendations welcome!

    Thanks.
