It’s a very emotive subject, in an ideal world we’d have a 0 limit, also applying to drugs that can effect the ability to drive, including over the counter cold remedies etc.
In addition to France, some Mediterranean countries only issue fines for DD and have much worse road safety records than the UK do.
The fall in the KSi figures aren’t due to the DD laws but many other factors, road design, vehicle safety features such as ABS, seat belts and airbags.

As loddrik says, Rolex’s are very sought after so you shouldn’t loose out very much, the GS is a bit different from the Explorer?
Can I ask what do you like about it?, I’ve never been a big Rolex fan, but I do like the GMT version of the Explorer the Milgauss.

He was a great character actor, favorite in Dalziel and Pascoe as that grumpy down to earth copper who cut through the ‘carp’ to get the villan.
I used to see him out n about as he lived not that far from me.
    RIP.

“So many of those ancient roads would have been better kept as BOATs but not enough was done at the time by the various bodies who were in a position to do so.” (Shedbrewed)

I agree with the first part about BOATs, but I was part of a group invovled in trying to presevre the status of BOATs etc, but the council/HA did evrything it could to block/stop this.
From what I understand from others involved, LARA, GLASS, TRF etc., this was repeated in many parts of the country.

Ones with composite toe caps and sole plates are lighter, we use these as default. If you need to take them on and off alot then the zipped ones are best.

Land access and rights of way are knotty and controversial issues and the legal position is a nightmare, and neither CROW or NERC did much to help.
When you realise that in 1968 (IIRC) County Councils/Highway Authorities etc were given money by Westminster to sort out the haphazard classification of their rights of way and by the time CROW came along in 2000, only one in England had got sorted it out!
I would hope that the regional assemblies or whatever they turn into can do something useful in this area.
Although this issue isn’t high on their priority list it won’t get any better or go away.

Fantastic, it’s a low key, enthusiasts sport, hence the lack of F1 style engineering, carbon fibre etc.
He didn’t get the world record, but broke the UK one so got a result, fair play for trying to carry on after the near flip over and for calling it a day when it didn’t feel right.

Only saw the end bit on C4 waiting for Guy Martin to come on, it’s not a very fluid game is it?.

ETA are a well respected movement manufacturer and the 2824 is a good movement, so yes it worth getting it sorted out.
However I would recommend get a grown up to do it, Roy Taylor of RLT watches and uses these movements in his own watches.

What an amazing read, very thought provoking, honest and touching.
The human spirit is truly awesome.
Good luck Martin and well done, you’re a Super Star!

There seem to be a lot sidebars to the OP’s original question?
I’m sure we can all find instances of RTC’s involving one make/type of car or another had a good or bad result for the occupants.
There are many reasons why the accident rates have fallen over the last few years, not just vehicle design, construction and dynamics.
I think the OP should have a look at different vehicles that fit his major criteria and make judgement from there.
We all want our loved ones to be as safe as possible if the worst should happen.

I wouldn’t be without them, I’ve had them on my last 3 cars and can testify to their effectiveness. Have had Continental, Goodyear and Pirelli and they’ve all worked well, fit them in November and keep them on till March(ish).
The only time I got stuck was due to lack of ground clearance when the snow was very deep!
They may not be very eco friendly, but I’d rather use a little more fuel that the alternative.

You could try window shades, they’re available for most cars rear windows (B pillar back) and rear screen, as they can be removed very quickly if/when needed.
I have them as well as dark rear glass, but then I have a glass roof to adjust the interior light level.

A ‘700X has almost the same performance as the 750, so licence is a possibility if you’re so minded.
Remember the old adage, the throttle goes both ways!
It isn’t a switch, so use some common sense and a bit restraint and you’ll be fine?

    I have an Olympus SZ31MR, 16Mp, 24x optical zoom, 3″ screen.
It’s pocket sized & gives great results, it’s my grab ‘n’ go camera.

    +1 for the Honda NC700X.
I have the DCT version which is a superb commuter bike, so easy to use in heavy traffic coupled with it’s maneuverability and good visibility.
I get an average of 85 mpg, my last 3 tank fulls have been commuting only returning 87.0, 87.0 and 87.7, calculated.
I admit it’s not the most exciting bike I’ve owned or the best, but it does my 20 mile each way commute my very well, gives me reliable journey times.
I’ve added a taller screen, hand guards, extended mudguard, rear wheel hugger and a centre stand.
Give one a try, within 300 metres I was sold on it, some people seem to question the low rev limit, for me that wasn’t an issue as I like torquey engines you don’t have to rev to get the best of.

I’ve had many deliveries from them, all OK so far.
No service is perfect, every once in a while something will go missing.
It’s how the missing item is dealt with that is the main issue?

I had a cheque from them a few weeks ago for just over £150, same circumstances when I changed employers last year.
Went down the bank the same day to pay it into my account!

Missed the rain on the way home too :-).

A week or so back when I was at home I heard a very unusual sound, not a single engined light aircraft, I rushed outside to see a Lancaster flying overhead, it was solo, not flanked by a Hurricane and Spitfire. Unfortunately it was for long enough to for me to identify which one it was?
Awesome sight and sound that always stirs the emotions.

What are the rear tyres like? Is your car front or rear wheel drive?
In Scotland unless you’re very lucky you’ll get some rain so you’ll need lots of grip and good rain clearing channels to prevent aquaplaning.

I know someone who changed a perfectly good Freelander 1 for a new one a while back and regretted it, more issues than the Freeby ever gave, mainly electrical and poor build quality etc.

+1 for the Panda Cross and Citroen Cactus.
-1 for the new Beetle, looks like a dog either having a dump or doing the itchy b*m shuffle!
The G wagon is different, but very expensive, what about a Defender? but then I would say that wouldn’t I!

I think you’ll be best off with a zoom lens, the ‘kit’ lens that could have come with it would be a 14 – 42mm.
These can be found on a well known on line auction site for less than £50.
Make sure you get the Micro 4/3’s and NOT a 4/3’s offering as that will need an adaptor mount to work with your EPL-1.
Good luck with it, they are a very capable camera and should give you some good results.
    HTH’s?

Some years ago I had a double break and dislocation of my left ankle that was ‘fixed’ with 8 screws and a plate.
It was fine after the op once the plaster was off, some weeks later one of the screws was taken out so my ankle could move again, that screw held the left and right parts of the joint together to aid healing etc.
However, 3 and a bit years later I started having issues with it being very sensative to touch in two places and aching, two of the screws had started backing out and pushing against the skin, so I had the remaining 7 screws and the plate removed.
That was 15 years ago, I have had a few twinges and aches in it, it is a bit more sensative in places due to the skin being a bit thinner from the wounds, but apart from that it’s OK.
    I hope this helps you?

I have a Fluke provided for work, but it stays there.
My own diy/hobby multimeters are more than adequate as usually all I want is a yes it’s there or no it isn’t, be that AC or DC volts and continuity or resistance.
I have a Draper, UniTrend and £4.99 cheapo from Maplins that I don’t mind lending out.
I also have a old AVO analogue meter from BITD and a cheap CRT ‘scope.
Even when I had access to almost any topline electronic test equipment did I really need to use for home use.

I think it will if my experience is anything to go by, it was many years ago but even though I didn’t make a claim they tried to cancel my NCB.
I had to fight to get it reinstated, but I managed to.

Peter, IIRC you to have a NC700 which has hazard warning lights?
When I had my ‘steamer’ Tiger 900 which had them I used a quick on/off to thank drivers that moved over for me.
It’s much easier than the left/right/left or r/l/r with the indicators which could be missed or misinterpreted by drivers.
When the Tiger made way for the ‘900 Scrambler I missed the hazard light function, so I was glad to see that the NC700 has them fitted, the sales man at a dealer where I had a test ride didn’t recon they weren’t of much use, but are mandated by the EU now.

I stayed at the Waterside Travelodge last September for two nights, 5 minutes from the Spa station and right on the canal basin, not the most glamorous place to stay granted, but very clean and comfortable with a restaurant has a good choice for breakfast and evening meals as well as a bar.
I’ll be going back there this September for another weekend.
