My ’91 Trek 850 had a splatter paint finish, black and white over red.
DefenderFree MemberWe used to have Mitsubushi L200’s:( and replaced them with Toyota Invincibles (equivilant):-), both with double cabs, they’re OK for short journeys, we use them around the site etc so only a few miles at most, but I wouldn’t want to go very far with four other blokes.
In addition they’re not so nice to drive as a modern van, I much prefer driving our ’14 plate Transit, even though it’s one of the BIG ones!DefenderFree MemberI bought a pair of solar powered 50 LED lights from Lidl last year, paid £50 for the pair of them IIRC, very bright and easy to install.
I though the one on the back of the house had packed up, but one evening I was in the kitchen and saw the light come on so looked out to see what had triggered it and there was a fully grown badger:-).DefenderFree MemberThat news just sucks, condolences to his family and friends.
Nest time I’m out riding I’ll spare a thought for him and the others we’ve lost:(.DefenderFree MemberI can’t see what’s wrong with using Fat Bikes, it’s a bicycle isn’t it, and no more unsuitable than a Chopper I wouldn’t have thought?
They are obviously serious about it from the training they’ve been doing and are raising money for a worthy cause.
Sounds a bit like the UCI who do anything to stifle inovation and progress?DefenderFree MemberIt’s known as ‘horizontal engineering’ in these here parts and is a regular occurance on night shifts once the work is done:-)
We had someone leave our section as he couldn’t get enough sleep on night shifts meaning he had to sleep during the day, it really cramped his life style apparantly8ODefenderFree MemberI will be, but on CH4+1, as I’m hospital visiting so will miss the start.
DefenderFree MemberMid position/three way valve?, if that has failed the it will only give you which ever position it failed in HW, CH or both.
There is usually a manual override lever on the actuator to set it to give both functions.
Mine is in the airing cupboard down stream of the pump.DefenderFree MemberTragic news indeed, shouldn’t have happened, but it has, this mustn’t happen again!
DefenderFree MemberThis is something I’ve noticed has been getting worse over the past few years, the problem will only get worse unless there is a significant deterant?
I remember when driving in the USA seeing signs that give the minimum fine as $1000 for littering.
Although the chances of being caught are slim, a fine of that size might stop some people?
Perhaps dash cam footage could be used to reduce it?DefenderFree MemberI see what you’re saying, but the flies in the ointment are choice of frame material we not have carbon and titanium at reasonable prices along with steel and ally, and there’s the brakes, more specifically disc brakes, which work far better than any U/Canti/V brake does, so it’s a bit different in that respect.
DefenderFree MemberBITD Avocet made an inverted tread tyre called the ‘Cross’, there was a Cross II, both had a Kevlar option.
http://www.avocet.com/tirepages/cross_2_specs.htmlDefenderFree MemberYes, a very sad day indeed, to loose two men who were both exceptional in their own field.
Sadly I never met Captain Brown, I’ve seen him on TV, he was a very brave and skill pilot, one of the very best.
I did meet David Duffield a few years ago, nice man, very knowledgeable and far sighted in the world of cycling, and not afraid to speak his mind.RIP.
DefenderFree MemberPat Benatar, Stevie Nicks, Grace Slick and if it’s pure vocal abbility you’re into Barbara Dickson!
DefenderFree MemberI used to work for a company based in Bracknell and there weren’t many options of places to stay around there, Travelodge and Premier Inn not too far away, could try the the Coppid Beech just north of Bracknell, Ibseem to remember that the Christmas bashes there were quite good?
DefenderFree MemberI went today, and enjoyed it, last went in 2014 hasn’t changed that much really.
Took a test drive of a Honda, nice to see their stand had both cars and bikes on it! The concept Civic Tourer was very interesting, but also quite niche as I don’t think there’s enough clearance for bikes with flat bars rather than drops?
The only other Car manufacturer to have a stand was Jeep, so I’m not sure where the car show with a few bikes comes from?
There were a couple of camper/activity vehicle stands there, but they weren’t prominent or the vehicle manufacturers but converters/sellers.
Stand out stands for me were, Orange complete with the revived P7!, spoke to the main man, Andy Ball who seemed genuinely interested, also Hope, GT, Boardman, Cotic and Shand, as others have mentioned there were some very big industry names not there, but then this is a regional show and NOT the the ‘National Cycle Show’ which moved from London to the NEC a few years ago.
Yes I would go again and probably will do next year.DefenderFree MemberSome years ago I knew a Road Traffic Officer who attended the scene of an RTC, it was seemingly fairly minor and the motorist was clearly at fault, so after a few photos and then clearing up the scene reopened the road as it was on a fairly major junction they reopened the road.
Two days later the motorist rather unexpectedly died from complications.
That changed things dramatically and the investigation took on a whole different focus.
There were some rather red faces as potential evidence hadn’t been gathered, then when the dececde’s family’s legal people got involved a class 1 s**t storm blew up!
If the unfortunate happened to some one we knew we would want a proper job done no matter how long it took?DefenderFree MemberOur local newsagent had one back in the early/mid 70’s, it was red, I think I went in it once, don’t remember much else about it though.
DefenderFree MemberAt a bike show a few years ago I saw a bike bag that was open at the top, sealed bottom and sides to put your bike in to transport it inside your car without leaving the dirt, oil etc behind or scraping the trim etc.
However I have no details of it and haven’t seen anthing quite like it since, but seemed a good idea to me.
It wouldn’t be too hard to make something like it with some heavy duty canvas or nylon fabric?DefenderFree MemberTDR250, 2 1\2 years of two stroke fun. Rode it to Le Mans, IOM, various other places, why did I sell it?
CRM250AR with enduro and SM wheels, great fun on and off road, sold it almost 10 years ago.
Tiger 900 (Steamer) it was first BRG in the UK, tree stump pulling torque and electric motor smoothness, top gear was good from 20mph to over 120mph.
Various chassis mods including wide rims for road tyres, BT57’s worked well! Also sold nearly ten years ago.DefenderFree MemberYup Honda Jazz all the way, had mine for 3 years now, will be 5 years old in May, currently on 44k miles, lots around.
The CVT version is great, had to drive through central London last night, glad it wasn’t a manual version.DefenderFree MemberAn incredible man, lived on the edge of the envelope for most of his life, truely a hero in all senses of the word.
I’m sorry to hear that he isn’t well after having had a fall :(.DefenderFree MemberJust to say they don’t have to have wide wheels, bubble arches and big wings etc.
nullDefenderFree MemberGray/Grey imports are ones that were originally destined for another market, ie. USA, Asia, Canada, Austrailia etc.
They might not have the same level of warranty support that the home market product does?
They were very popular back in the 80’s but the internet and open European market has reduced this somewhat.DefenderFree Membermy homemade Naga curry was rather more powerful than i initially bargained for
Was it Naga-saki curry then? Sounds like it would melt any snow within a mile or two of the ‘fallout’!
DefenderFree MemberHad a sprinkling of snow on the edge of the Chiltern Hills this morning, but I had to come to work, so no snow fat biking for me today :(!
DefenderFree MemberMy mother (88) has a disabled badge, but we haven’t used it yet as she fell over on our way out in mid November and has very recently returned home from hospital, as on admission they found some underlying issues. She is currently bed bound, hopefully she will be able to go out again very soon.
She has had restricted mobility for some while, but refused to even apply for a Blue Badge, due to the access required to get her into her wheelchair, I used to use the parent parking places at the local supermarkets etc, no one ever challenged us over this, yes it was abusing them, but what other option did I have?DefenderFree MemberA good choice the Casio 5600, the one I have has a braclet rather than a rubber or fabric strap.
Have you thought about a Burtucci?, they are a classic field watch and have a different case design that has cast in bars for the strap rather than spring bars or even pressed in ones, they do use a one piece band rather like a NATO, but come in various colours.
http://bertucciwatches.com/Bertucci/home.htmlDefenderFree MemberHow about the Curtiss P40 Warhawk/Tomahawk/Kittyhawk?
http://www.top-flite.com/airplanes/topa0705-main-lg.jpg
Like the Hurricane overshadowed by latter designs but it was ready to go when the war kicked off.DefenderFree MemberHave you thought about something that’ll grip the carpet, like the ‘hook’ half of velcro?
Enough of that on underside of your piece of wood that your fork mount is screwed/bolted to should hold it without any need for drilling any holes?DefenderFree MemberF rom the sound of it good customer service is readily available for these knives.
I have several genuine Swiss Army knives.
However the one that sticks out in my mind was a cheap Japanese copy that I bought in Jersey in 1982, for about £3, the only thing that ever broke was the little eye that held the key ring loop, that didn’t bother me too much and it gave good service for years until knives became something not to carry with you everyday and I got a pocket multi tool.
I’ve still got it somewhere in the loft and no doubt just as good as it ever was.DefenderFree MemberYup, I have a TSR 27 & 30 both give a magic carpet ride on our rather potholed roads, most of the time anyway.
TBH, you either get the ‘Moulton Bike’ thing or you don’t, most people still can’t see past the small wheels, even 50 plus years on.DefenderFree MemberTo improve the heater efficiency I fitted a wing top scoop to the passenger side wing, it made a difference when travelling at speed. You can also get uprated a heater matrix. Also there are small ducts available to help demist the side windows, either that or wear something with a fleece type material to wipe the window easily.
DefenderFree MemberRay anytime, he may not have the exciting persona of Bear, but he’s much more in tune with his environment and would know what would work and what wouldn’t.
Does anybody remember ‘Now get out of that’, BBC late 70’s?DefenderFree MemberI would be very carefully with the ‘car buying houses’ as some have a bonus scheme for their ‘buyers’ to knock off between £500 – £1000 from the amount original offered on line?
Plus do they still take an admin fee at point of sale as well?
Do you have a relative or friend that you can borrow a car from for a short time, that would give you more options selling and buying?
I leant a friend a car for a month when he changed jobs and didn’t have one, he paid the insurance admin fee as that was the only additional cost and returned it with a full tank :-)DefenderFree MemberSad loss, as previously said he was a real character, not one you could forget. A friend of mine met him whilst they were both waiting for a delayed flight, had a coffee with him, said he was a really nice guy.
RIP Lemmy.DefenderFree MemberNice one, I would love to do something like that foe my Dad, but he’s long since departed.
I have a ‘Whippet I’d quite like to try 650b wheels and tyres on, but it’d need a new fork though.
