A rare glimpse of NIMBYs in their natural habitat.

Pretty good article and better than usual comments off the bottom half of the page.

    Signed/bumped.

Shame it’s come down to a petition competition given the amount of effort that has been put into consultation, planning and seeking consents for the Skelf project over the last few years.

It’s amazing how the anti-skelf stuff makes it sound like this is the only greenspace in the area and fails to mention the 260 hectares of public parkland just the other side of the wall.

Rubbish news. Met Kael at the Clubbiedean trail repair session in the Pentlands a few years back. A great guy to have in the biking community, he’ll be sadly missed.

Howies warm 49ers are lovely. Happily live in mine when it’s chilly.

Had a pair of Alpkit ‘waterproof’ jeans, which take a little longer to wet out than ordinary denim and dry fairly quickly but I’d not buy another pair.

It was glorious at Cairngorm today. Sunshine, no wind and ride(almost)anywhere powder snow across the hill.

Been getting on really well with a set of Alpkit Tau lights here too. Front is bright enough for trundling along unlit paths in a bind too.

Aye, it looks odd, but it works. It’s not exactly a pretty bike anyway so its never really bothered me on mine.

Will those Tau lights fit readily to a helmet? Are there hooks on both sides of the LED body?

Aye, hooks on both sides and two lengths of rubber band so should fit most helmets one way or another. Worked on a Giro Hex and Kali Summatorother I tried a moment ago. At 22 grams you’re not really going to notice the extra weight.

Great wee lights from what I’ve seen so far. Very good visibility even on the low modes and the med/high will be great for being seen on dark wet winter days. I didn’t bother switching on my main light on the way home the front light illuminated the way (unlit path/track) pretty well for something so tiny.

Just had some little Alpkit Tau lights arrive in the post.

Will primarily use them as secondary lights for winter commuting, but they look like ideal low weight backup lights for the rest of the year too. USB chargeable and not easy to switch on by accident as they rattle around in your bag, which is a definite plus.

Look good out of the box. I’ll maybe post a wee review once I’ve used them for a few weeks.

I’m up for some Pentland rides over the winter. Definitely up for something while this ridge of high pressure is attempting to hang on anyway.

you offered me a guide around the west when I was asking about the riding near Prestwick a while back. Would be rude not to return the favour. I stay on the Currie/Balerno side of the Pentlands and should be free that Saturday. Email is in my profile.

Utterly mesmerising. Love the sound of the wind rushing by.

I NEED to ride that road!

Me too… just not on a skateboard.

Ended up with two attached last week in the northwest highlands when out and about camping/climbing.

Have had quite a few when out riding and walking in the past. Normally pretty good at catching them early and getting shot of them with a ‘tick twister’.

One of them looked like it’d had a pretty good feed though, so will definitely be keeping an eye on the bite site. It’s a little scary that 1 in 3 people don’t get the visible ‘bullseye’ rash when infected with Lyme disease though. 😐

A very delicate removal operation followed using a cigar lighter and some tweezers.

Apparently this is not a very good idea as it can cause them to spew whatever stuff they have inside into your bloodstream when you burn them.

Limited listening time so far, but I’m really enjoying it. There’s currently a stream over here for those who haven’t excitedly rushed out to buy a copy.

Looking forward to seeing them in Glasgow next month. It’s been too long.

Great event Steven. Kelsey will be awesome on her new bike, she was tearing up the mining museum carpark in her chair anyway 😀

Sounds fun, I’ve never tried riding a pump track.

Would the best plan be to turn up with a BMX, a sense of humour and a pile of money for charity?

A good deed indeed. It probably wouldn’t have lasted long or been able to feed itself if it couldn’t fly.

Having spoken to the SSPCA after finding one in a similar predicament, you probably don’t want to know what happens at ‘buzzard hospital’ though. 🙁

Thanks for the advice folks – unmanaged gigabit it is then.

PoE doesn’t look like it’s worth the extra for now, especially seeing as you can retrofit. More ports would be great, but the price more than doubles to go to 16. An 8 port switch and the current hub would 10 ports, which leaves me a couple of spare ports to play with.

Have done a couple of combined bikepacking and hillwalking trips in five ten exum guides. Pretty good on flat pedals with decent pins and very good on rocky terrain when walking and scrambling.

Not very waterproof, and pretty rubbish on wet grassy ground as they have quite a rounded edge compared to something with a vibram walking boot sole, but they seem like a pretty good compromise to me.

    White and gold for me.

It’s quite an interesting and strongly divisive metamerism effect.

Still divides opinion when viewed on the same device from exactly the same viewing angle 😀

    +1 for Southland Tales

It’s a spectacular epic shambles of a film, but I couldn’t tear myself away from it. Ended up watching it again the day after I first watched it and will have to revisit it again sometime. Some great ideas, interesting casting and performances, but lots of it is just really awkward. I can see why it got critically panned, but I enjoyed it.

Stayed in Colfosco a couple of years ago, lovely wee village overlooking the Sella massif with some walking, via feratta and biking around. Quite fancy going back to try some of the climbing routes.

Hired a bike from Breakout in Corvara and went out with a local Ladin guide from Dolomite Biking[/url] for a days riding.

The guide was well worth the money to make the most of the days hire, but I reckon you could just grab a lift pass for the week and get out exploring too. Passes didn’t seem too expensive. I didn’t ride any of the ‘bike park’ tracks but there were a few I spotted on the map. There is a lot of amazing singletrack in the area. Definitely a bit of pedaling to get to it, but the lifts do most of the work.

Will definitely take a bike if when I head back out there. Great food and beer in the refuges scattered around the hills and the local lagrein is a lovely drop.

I really hope they first see it posted on here rather than by going outside and spotting it has rolled off. 😀

That’s 9am this morning for you anyway, looks lovely. The live link is here, if slightly less useful than it was.
