Friend was riding the ring trail at fochabers a couple of days ago. Said it was okay under tree cover but really hard going elsewhere. Probably iced up a bit since then too.

Was out walking dogs through roseisle forest to the beach earlier today. Saw a few sets of tyre tracks… looked like hard work.

Great fork. I have the 07 reba team and a 456ss but never tried them together. Reckon they’d work pretty well though they are understandably flexy for their weight and maybe better suited to a lighter frame.

they can be converted to anything between 80-115mm with spacers iirc.

It’s snowing pretty hard in Leith again and given how frustrating offroad cycling was yesterday I think I’m more inclined toward an ascent of the north face of Bellvue to the cask & barrel.

Quick spin on the mtb yesterday. Fine on slushy gritted roads, hard/impossible in snow on uncleared cyclepaths. No fun at all 🙁

Almost grabbed the commuter from the shed this morning but was glad I didn’t as Lochend Road was sheet ice on the way home and I saw quite a few cars out of control.

The walk to work through holyrood park in the snow makes for a rather refreshing alternative to the bike. Pretty as it is, walking is frustratingly slow though. I’m not sure how long my patience will last with it.

Enjoyed that rather a lot. A refreshingly different ride. Good beer to mileage ratio (although staying for another was seriously tempting) and some of that was interesting on skinny tyres.

    cheers folks.

Will come to the shop for half six on my hybridy bike ready for riding and the pub yet somehow inappropriately attired for both.

Mark – if I order some stuff from you today online/by phone could I pick it up tonight, avoiding me demanding to buy stuff when you’ve already cashed up.

Damn, sorry northwind, we really should have done another headcount after the split 😳

Cracking ride despite my legs and lungs not complying on even the slightest incline. Most gracious of you all to wait for the wheezy mess attempting to get up the Castlelaw climb way behind you 🙂 Thankfully the descents made up for the pain.

Unlucky Househusband. I really couldn’t believe it when your chain went a second time. Top swearing points though, I think everyone in the Pentlands heard your cry.

Always good to meet new folk too, even if I could hardly raise the breath for chat and when I did I spouted total bollocks anyway.

If it’s lunch the £25 set menu at the Kitchin is difficult to beat.

Cafe Blue above the Traverse Theatre is very reasonably priced and consistently tasty in the evening. Bijou on Leith Links and Blonde at St Leonards do great unpretentious food and have a good atmosphere.

For something a wee bit more special the Vinters rooms is rather good too.

mmm, this is making me hungry

I’m off to see Killing Joke tonight and this song also has doom content. That’s enough connection for me.

(not a proper video, but someone has synced the song up to some discovery channel footage rather well)

That was one of the most ridiculous and enjoyable live broadcast events I’ve ever watched. Well worth staying up past my bedtime for 🙂

Darren Berrecloth headcam footage from his third place finish gives an impression of just how insane the terrain on that hill is.

    I’m up for this.

Will happily accept a lift (and bring sugary treats and petrol money for the driver) but could provide transport for 4 riders + 3 bikes if required.
