Any good route that link Punch Bowl side to Ludshott/Bramshott side?

I can probably find a way through via Golden Valley but looks like got to get past houses on road in places. Or is it worth going south from Gibbet towards Haslemere and across to Bramshott?

I could park over that way, but like to base at punch bowl and get in a bunch of stuff round Gibbet / Hurt hills, maybe wander a bit north too, but make a loop down.

Trying to expand my range and seems a lot of areas to the south to explore. Not sure how much is rideable.

One of the effects is death if untreated isn’t it? Sounds pretty long term.

Though very rare, but heart inflammation conditions are a more severe complication from Lyme disease and in extreme cases could be fatal.

The approach now is that if you had PPI it’s just accepted as mis-sold. Even if you knew about it, the problem is most wouldn’t have been valid anyway.

There’s an additional category apparently (from reading about this on MSE) where if over 50% of the PPI cost went as commission to the provider without them telling you, there’s additional to claim, even if you already claimed PPI, it wasn’t mis-sold or claim was rejected.

As for knowing you didn’t take any out, the problem is many were included without your knowledge either as small print or deliberately hidden by a sales guy on commission, and it was big money to sell PPI.

Apparently there’s a possibility in the last couple of weeks some providers may automatically file a complaint for anyone they know has PPI, but not certain. I guess after the deadline there might be some fines coming up.

Regarding emergencies AML sounds great but I’d never heard of it until now.

Surprising it’s not that well advertised, especially as it’s a British innovation and supported by networks in UK.

On Android, to check if it’s enabled (should be by default I think) …

“Turn emergency location service on or off
ELS is turned on by default. You can turn it off or back on at any time.

    Open your phone’s Settings app.
    Tap Security & location.
If you don’t see “Security & location,” follow the steps for older Android versions.
If you have a work profile, tap Advanced.
Tap Location and then Advanced and then Google Emergency Location Service.
Turn Emergency Location Service on or off.”

Problem I’ve got is not remembering what I had, not just whether I had PPI. Banks and credit cards are fine, but it’s store cards, catalogue accounts and insurances, a lot of which from MSE / Resolver and other sites including FCA, need you to know who the underwriter was or is now owned by, and got no idea.

I could go spam a load of them without a clue though.

Or I dig out the files buried away in boxes and I might still have old documents. It’ll take me weeks to go through it all.

Is there a date when PPI stopped being mis-sold? I can filter out anything after that date at least.

Another advice is to check credit report, but while I’ve got an Experian account and I’m sure it did list all my old credit accounts including store cards, car finance etc, it seems to have dropped all that information and only holds more recent stuff (data protection laws at work!).

The small amount of credit I had with each and considering it was almost always paid off before interest kicked in, I’m not sure it’s worth it. People getting thousands is understandable if you’ve been getting tens or hundreds of thousands of credit, but not in my case. Aside from credit cards, car and mortgage (the latter I did have some kind of payment protection but I killed it off early. Still have a death/injury insurance that pays the mortgage off, but it’s not payment protection in that sense, though it’s probably worthless).

Just about all modern smartphones should support Advanced Mobile Location

Was going to say, I’m sure there’s a standard or standards in phones already that includes GPS or WiFi position when calling Emergency Services.

W3W looking up position to translate into three words you say over the phone that gets translated back into a position, and costs money to emergency service to use and the words can get misheard.

    or

Position automatically sent via SMS with the phone call, no licence cost I assume.

Still, it’s got everyone’s attention and top trend on twitter now. Good advertising for them.

SARLoc is quite clearly the best when the situation suits it.

Requires the caller to do something and needs data. ALS just gets position and sends a text message with the position when you call 999, as I understand it.

The ones I go in used to do a variety, but now settled on orange juice squash only of their own brands or otherwise it’s Robinsons. As I say, I don’t tend to go to big shops. Far too much faff.

I regularly find wine pleasant AF

Indeed, and that’s my problem :D

    Nope.

Install rotor, go ride. Never had issues. They “bed in” while riding.

I don’t usually bother to bed in with new pads. Ride a few trails, use the brakes, job done.

Well, new rotor you may have to re-align caliper or adjust bite point on pads if they are adjustable, if the rotor isn’t fitting well. Depends on the state of the old rotor and if the pistons are centred.

Actually I have more issues if I fit new pads as they are more faff to get rotor clearance. A lot of pads are so thick out of the packet.

It’s a solution. It’s not going to be universal without an open platform which isn’t going to happen if they want to make money given it’s a product with no other value than a co-ordinate system. If it restricts integration into other apps and web sites then less people are going to use it.

Though OS stuff is licensed also to integrate with, but they do have open platforms to access basic data for free. Plus printed maps to get grid reference off (but you’re shelving out money for those too). Is of course, UK only.

Not watched it but usually anything related to bikes on news media involves some misinformed rant by someone which goes unchallenged by the presenters. The road tax one being common. Not one ever points out there’s no such thing and they may go on to ask their audience if cyclists should pay road tax, have insurance etc. 🤦‍♂️

Footpaths, they’ll just focus on the ramblers “concerns” who are likely very influential with the Beeb and high up types.

I get the same and I only have coffee first thing in the morning. Redbush tea rest of the day.

It’s something that started in last few years (mid 40s). Though it mostly happens on days I’m in the office and I suspect it’s just tedium. When working from home I mix up the day with a variety of things, bits of work, house stuff, bike fettling even, more work. Day is spread out, I can get more done (unless it’s really tedious work I’d rather not do) and don’t tend to snooze in the afternoon.

Though it’s probably good to snooze in the afternoon anyway. Think we Brits should be more into siestas but we hate Europe so can’t be doing with foreign ideas like that. Plus it’s connected with warm weather, which we’re not blessed with.

Why not use red/white grape juice?

To be honest, I’ve not tried. I tend to shop in the small shops and they don’t usually have it. Not red. Cranberry maybe but it’s too fruity and sweet.

Problem is a lot of fruit juice stuff is too sweet really.

Shloer is sparkling and mostly flavoured water with a bit of fruit juice. Doesn’t work for me at all for red wine substitute.

Looking for things that will say to my brain “this is wine… almost” :D

I’ll check out plain red grape juice though.

I don’t (and would never) work in IT support, but I do get support issues down the line as a developer.

Have had the screenshot from the phone many times, and that’s understandable for some who don’t know how to do screenshots, but then next person in the line sticks it in a Word document and emails that to the next, who then prints it out to walk over to me a few desks away.

Also have had a video from a phone sent for a static screenshot.

Bike riding has made a huge difference for me. It’s not gone away, but it’s a way of managing it when things get too much. Almost to the extent that I have to be riding as much as possible, or at least doing something out of the house and away from any place of work that can occupy my time without complexity. Exercise though definitely makes a difference for me.

Avoided the drugs which were the instant answer from the GP. They may be the answer to manage it for many, but it definitely should not be the first thing after a 10 minute session and you’re not looking like you can’t cope at all! Counselling was offered. Waste of time in a way. Holistic stuff that looks to pin it on something in my childhood or whatever. It’s nothing to do with a particular event causing I concluded, so at least it was useful in that sense.

It’s far more likely it’s partly down to coffee and booze, which is hard to give up, and potentially hereditary as most the family has had it in various forms and all for no logical reason.

Most the time I get it without having anything to particularly worry about. Major things to worry about don’t seem to bother me in that way. They become things to deal with and just get on with it knowing it will get sorted.

The main change over recent years is VED is no longer transferable (but is refundable), so likely dealers are making more of a profit through admin fees or loading it on the price to tax it for you. Just do it yourself.

It’s purely electronic now so tax online before picking up, all done.

Topeak make a nifty little check valve for just such a purpose

I’ve got one but I found I couldn’t trust the pressure the gauge was reporting and sometimes I’d barely put any air in and it was reporting very high pressure. Take it off and seemed normal.

And then realised the air releasing was just coming out of the pump anyway.

As for OP, if the shock has more sag than when started, then you have a leak in the shock, in my opinion. When was it last serviced?

And yet many recruiters and businesses use it as part of the hiring process.

It’s what it’s for now. Mainly recruiters using it as a means of getting candidates on their books and leads into companies with no interest in placing the right people for the job, just what makes them the most money. Also handy for seeing who’s unhappy where they are because they’re updating their profile, and can target that company for their replacement.

But that’s the recruitment business anyway. LinkedIn has just made it easier for them to abuse candidates and companies.

given it is not their land and they are not picking it up they are liable for a fine and can be taken to court if they refuse to pick it up. Get it on film and then send it to the council as well.

Only if it’s public land. If your lawn is private land, then it’s a matter of civil prosecution, I think.

Same would go for a cat I assume, which is a lot more common. Although they do tend to bury it, but not always, or they treat long grass as enough cover.

Get the impression that Morzine is the alpine British ex-Pat town. Depends if that’s your sort of thing. Winter, it’s low down and not ski to the door a lot of the time. Though not being snowed in all winter is maybe an advantage. Then again, they know how to clear roads of snow unlike in UK.

Because no matter how cheery and polite you are, some miserable twunt will always say “where’s your bell?” It gives them some sort of perverse satisfaction, a feeling of superiority I think.

If I don’t have one I get that, and when I do I’ve had a sarcastic “at least you’ve got a bell!”

I only ever need it for the canal and it’s the afternoon crowd miserable bunch who have a sense of self entitlement to the entire canal path, dawdling along, refusing to let me pass or glaring and tutting. That’s on shared access paths and despite me giving easy, being polite, slowing down.

I’ve had a crappy bell for ages that I sit under the bars to avoid impaling myself on it and breaking it in crashes, but if not on the canal I usually remove it. Except last week, left it on, had a semi OTB after an argument with a tree stump and impaled my leg on the lever bit which snapped off. So no bell now.

Doesn’t solve 50% of canal users who have headphones in, are deaf or pretend to be deaf.

Times have changed. When I was around 7, I made a robot out of a cardboard box, and flaps and things would open when I pulled on bits of string.

Did something like that in an attempt to recreate Metal Mickey. Though I did have a set of walkie talkies so would stick one inside to make it talk. 😄

+1 Anker. Got a 20000 and had just got another for Ard Rock just in case it wasn’t going to last Thur to Monday, but oh well. Still, will come in useful again.

I use a fast charge dongle on phones as I’ve had some that were a bit fussy without and kept insisting it was on slow speed. The dongle things just cut the data wires effectively so the phone thinks it’s plugged into a mains adapter and can pull full power. The chargers should do the same but one phone objected without it.

e-bike would make Raven more tolerable. The final descents are good there but the climbing did my head in. I don’t mind climbing and even long climbs, but not pointless ones especially when they then descend to the next trail on a fireroad! (and the next trail only lasts 10 seconds).

Have you even bothered understanding those two tariffs I mentioned. They don’t work without a smart meter, you can’t have them without a smart meter. One of them requires a meter reading every half hour, the other at least twice a day. One of them I know would save me £400pa that’s the smart meter making it cheaper right there and no one is going to come round and read my meter at 00.30am and 04.30am every day.

The smart meter itself is just allowing for peak/off-peak charging. We had that with Economy 7 and don’t require smart meters for it.

Variable ones like Octopus Agile are peak/off-peak in a more granular way plus some claim of savings based on the wholesale rate variability, but monthly / quarterly billing would average that out anyway. Also, energy companies often quote savings based on estimates of what a regular billing would take up front for energy you haven’t used yet but ignores that it will adjust itself with actual use and you may get a refund. Though it is a rubbish way of billing anyway, but you don’t need a smart meter to scrap upfront billing.

Midichlorians bit from Phantom Menace. Just a whole load of WTF! reaction and nearly walked out of the cinema.

Likewise the “we’re aliens” bit in Highlander 2.

South Park was just a riot of language, shocking I suppose in a piss myself laughing way. If I quote bits do I star out the language or just type the language and let the auto sensor work, which avoids a ban? :D

They’ve come round to read mine every 6 months in last few years. They used to be mostly estimated. Probably because I don’t bother myself (though I check what they’ve read) and ignore the hundreds of calls bugging me about smart meters (12 times in the last two days).

    deadkenny
    Free Member

That’s a bit narrow minded, Octopus Go tariff and Octopus Agile tariff are completely reliant on smart meter and potentially can save the user hundreds. Certainly I worked out Go tariff would save me around £400pa over a traditional tariff / method. Agile tariff is currently a bit of an unknown, but in theory when it’s say sunny / windy you could even be paid to use electricity

The smart meter bit isn’t making it cheaper. It’s just the tariffs are subsidised on the basis of having a smart meter, for now. Relying on smart meters for adaptive billing shouldn’t make a difference. Okay you may not get the up front estimated bill and refund cycle, but overall you’ve paid the same.

These have to be paid for at some point. There’s no actual saving to customers long term, only savings to the energy company in not having to employ people to read meters.

Doesn’t make a difference to energy supply as the data goes to billing companies who have nothing to do with the energy network (and for all the fluff from green energy companies about using windmills and stuff, your energy probably doesn’t come from anything fluffy and green, unless you actually live near a wind farm. These are billing companies, not energy companies).

Saving money bit is based on people looking at the meter display, trusting what it said (known to be inaccurate at times) and turning things off. Or you can just turn things off you’re not using and maybe look at a regular meter to see the effect, or get an energy monitor you attach to the mains if you like.

And yes… cat aids is my main concern. They get radiation from the meters, develop cat aids and then bite me.

I don’t know anything about road disc brakes but from experience of MTB world, do you have sintered pads or are they typically resin for road? Sintered, metal stuff in them, add water and result is horrible noise.

Also off road it’s wet mud we deal with and not too bad but if it’s a wet armoured trail so it’s just mainly water on the discs then yes they can get noisy. A long descent with feathered braking can shed the moisture though but hitting the brakes after a period of wet tail and can squeal. As said though, resin less so.

Problem is government pressure for the waste of money ridiculous roll out for a functionally useless system and the incentives they give to the companies. That and the fact the older smart meters are an advantage to them in being a lock-in.

Current company have stopped claiming my old (not that old) meter is downright dangerous and smart meter is the answer and finally said I just need the meter replacing as it might not be accurate and not mentioning smart meter (finally). Fair enough in a way, but then again it’s really not that old (digital meter and I still see plenty of old dial types working with no issue).

My main problem is don’t want smart meter for reasons of increasing costs to pay for them and open door to personalised peak charging, plus replacing the meter full stop means having to wait in and I’m expected to pay a non-free number to book the appointment. Also I don’t see why I can’t just submit readings still or not even bother and let the lazy bastards actually come round and read it for once in a while. At least I’m keeping someone in a job.

Also, can you set the laptop to dual screen so video is on projector or whatever but you still see desktop on laptop to make notes?

Further… Less meetings, or less content in them. Less to make notes on.

Same as any bike, plenty of chain devices. Just question of how it fits and various options for that.

If you’re talking mtb and have 1x with narrow / wide chainring, then I wouldn’t worry. I run like that on a carbon bike and no issues as it really doesn’t drop the chain. Very rare anyway and when it does it’s no more scratching anything than with alloy. Just paint and even then I’ve never had scratches.

Different matter with 2x/3x. I’ve had chain drop and jam behind the front cage and stuck against frame. Similar with chain suck. I don’t get chain suck with 1x and narrow wide though.

From earlier footage it looks like the reservoir overtopped and ran down the spillway as designed, but the surface has washed away in part. It’s not the dam breached from inside.

Now the dam has stopped overtopping it shouldn’t be so much a risk but heavy rain could wash more away and then concern how much damaged inside. Will be a big tough wall other side though and huge mound of earth still remaining, given victorian engineering so hopefully will hold.

Evacuation is obvious precaution though and to fix it they might have to drain it which means waiting for levels to go down in rivers.
