If the frame is less slack than before and the problem is high speed cornering then I'd say it might just be a characteristic of that kind of bike, you can't chuck it into the corner as hard as a nice slack head angle one. Try going in slower, you might carry a bit more speed out as a result?

Oversteer = back wheel breaks traction and steps out = FUN!
Understeer = Front Wheel breaks traction and goes straight on = BORING!

Do you mean front wheel drift, while the back end still grips? I've never really had that can only think its bad front tyre choice.

I love the idea of having one bike for everything, but I find that in fact it means more bike changing / building etc than if you had more than one as you constantly chase the perfect allrounder that doesn't exist.

I'm at three at the moment – Commuter hardtail with a bit of offroad capability, one light but tough hardtail with 100 – 140 mm travel fork, and then a do-it all full sus that could do enduro races or handle a DH track at a push. Any less and I'd be pining for something else even more than I do now. Wish I could win the lottery and afford a Sunn Radical framekit – I WANT ONE!!!!

Annapurna South Face by Chris Bonnington. Quite detailed and climbing techy but an insight into just how hard climbing above 20,000ft really is, the effort required is amazing.

Great thanks – I'll leave well alone and just clean it properly then. First time out in proper muck on this bike tomorrow, should be laugh!

Yes, sadly this does not have the grease nipples. Would using GT85 strip the grease out I wonder, more harm than good?

I don't care how much I weigh and neither should anyone else. What matters is power to weight ratio. I'm 6'1 and nearly always somewhere between 11 1/2 st and 12 st, but that can either be weak as anything (more fat less muscle) or pretty nippy cos there's more muscle and less fat. At the moment its pretty bad…. trying to do something about it!

I have a Focus Estate with the uprated 1.6 TDCI engine, goes very well indeed considering how small the engine is. I take the wheels off to get the bike in the back, agree with thisisnotaspoon above its a bit of a phaff getting it in and out otherwise. Its a good car, good to drive, but I still hanker after a van really….

Hi All – yep its a factory orange, not custom. I'm very much up for Aston Hill or Chicksands, was loving the 4x up at Aston a couple of weekends ago before the second dump of snow. It was all frozen, rode the XC track (how hard is that climb ou the back?) and most of the DH runs, very impressed with the bike on the DH's. Thinking of sticking some spikes on getting out this Sunday perhaps…

Has anyone fitted a mud guard to the rear to stop the muck filling up the bottom swing link? I'm thinking a bit of inner tube back there might work, much like the ones you can fit on forks?

And no I'm keeping it. 🙂

I'm terrible at remembering names of knots, is a Clove hitch the one you can use to attach a rope to another rope and then use it to apply tension without it slipping? I think it is in which case this knot saved my bacon on Loch Ness and gets my vote!

I use self adhesive velcro (the furry side) along the bottom, works a treat and stops noise too.

Thanks all – slowrider were you running the 36's at full travel or were you able to wind them down? I'm still getting used to my 4x as I've not had it long and have been riding single pivots for years previously, so its all still a bit odd what with VPP and all…. Perhaps I should just try to find a cheap-ish set of 36's to use in the Alps when I go and use the pikes for the UK.

Every fool knows that real giant killer robots can't walk properly, as they can't get the hang of overbalancing like we do before they put their lead foot down, so the way they place their foot is very realistic IMHO.

Given the recent stats that came out showing that it is no more dangerous than seasonal flu, I don't think I would bother. I suspect I had it last week anyway.

Yep weather look OK ish for Saturday at the moment. I'm looking forward to the chance to get a good days riding in with the bonus of being able to see how fast I ride some sections and how that compares to others. I'll be doing everything blind cos I've not ridden there before so I'm not too fussed about being competitive or anything.

OK thanks for that. I've got a test on one booked and I might try the Dew at the same time to compare. Veering back to getting another inbred frame to build up….

    ddmonkey

Hmm thanks I'll have a look. The alternative is to buy an old inbred and get some carbon forks and build up from bits lying about, would cost about the same… but me 26" rather than 29"

Hmm yes saw that too but was looking for steel rather than ali for comfort / durability. Is it not that significant?

Yes – I lucked into a 2nd row spot and couldn't stay with the pace off the start, a couple of big crashes in front of me which I had to avoid too. But if they have got the slots available why not.
