Motorbikes racing their loud crotch rockets past my house. Four deaths in the last 10 months on that stretch of road – all under 25 yo. Why won’t they learn?

The triple chainring will work, but you can get a narrow wide – or just a single ring from someone like On-One for next to nothing. Cheap strong and will work better with a single speed chain. This also means you will have a straighter chain line.

My house backs on to the A3, 3 motorcycle deaths and one serious injury in the last 4 months. Driving down the road and you pass 3 separate ‘shrines’ within 300 meters. Doesn’t stop them from treating it like a racetrack. That said, car drivers are just as bad – especially given the huge amount of cyclists in the area as we approach the Ride London. Bellends indeed.

Wasn’t the rumblefish one of Gary Fisher’s creations before getting sucked into Trek? I think you are better off with the ‘newer’ 29’ers, they have got the geometry sorted now. +1 for the Smuggler (owner biased!)

Imo – some of these newer short travel 29’ers can feel a little flat if you are just out for a gentle ride, but really come alive when pushed. Smuggler is a good example – its not a beginners bike – they like to be thrashed. That said, I rode a demo Anthem last year and for the price – its a very good bike.

The truth of the matter is that riding a Chameleon for more than an hour will result in you feeling like Mr Big has had you in the showers

^^ :D It was three pictures, he asked what the speed limit was in each! You would be surprised how many people don’t know that if there’s a lamppost – it’s 30 unless otherwise advised.

The other takeaway was the facts around what actually triggers the presence of speed-bumps, fixed cameras, or even speed restrictions – these are based on the number of incidents that have occurred – went on to tell a story about a school asking for speed restrictions outside the school gates – council came back saying they could only justify it if a child got hit! It’s all about the money.

I did one last year. Pinged on the A3 just past QEP. Course was pretty informative – should be compulsory. The instructor stood up at the beginning of the course and said if the group could answer 3 questions correctly – we could all go home with a ‘pass’. Needless to say – we failed.

One woman was convinced it wasn’t her fault because she had one of those auto-cruise distance control features on her car – so it was the car in fronts’ fault! 8O

Crests will be strong enough, but +1 for Arch Ex, or Flow. I have a 29er Flow, and they are noticeably stiffer, not to mention that a wider rim has plenty of advantages.

The only Transition dealer in surrey closed a few weeks back (Tamed Earth in Haselmere) Rumour has it that cycleworks are considering becoming a dealer, but that’s just talk at this stage. +1 for Drovercycles!

Hard to tell from a single area, one clear and defining symptom is that shingles will never cross the center line of the body (spine), so if its on both sides – then its unlikely.

I dumped a load of channels (including movies) – then resubscribed to sky sports and Netflix – which is awesome. Still saved 30 odd quid a month from my original all in subs.

I love my smuggler, and have not ridden the Mega. I will say that you need to fettle the suspension to get the best out of it – and its not a ‘beginner’ bike – it likes to be thrashed! Fwiw- This is my second Transition – never had an issue with frames or bearings.

You need a telephone box. Place said telephone box in the woods. Conceal yourself well, then phone the call box. When the bear turns up to answer the phone, jump up, close the door, and voila. One bear in a box. Take box to pub, get several pints ready. Open door, run. Come back in an hour, apologize profusely to bear, and job done.

Obviously not always applicable, but – if you drive a manual, and do have engine malfunction, you can limp the car to the shoulder using the starter motor. Stick it 1st, off the clutch, and turn the key. The starter motor can move your car far enough to get out of the outside lane.

That said, would not recommend trying to cross 3 lanes of motorway traffic.

This is the same conversation we were having 5 years ago. Just replace the word Fatbike with 29’er. Or 3 years ago with ‘650b / 27.5’

Also have the MaxxD partnered with the diablo. My only advise is go slow with the helmet mount, that plastic hex screw strips easily. That said, solid performance from mine for 3 years now, and the same charger for both lights. Plus it makes a really good camping torch!

I don’t get it, why do you want another bike that’s similar to the one you already have? I get the whole N+1 thing, but why not have something different, for that sort of money, the (bike) world is your oyster.

+1 for Canyon or Transition Smuggler..

Aye. On-One Inbred 29 SS, done morzine, Wales, and South Downs. But I have a FS for most days, just ride it when out with the kids, or very muddy rides. I’m getting too old to stomp it up the hills anymore.

That is odd. Daft question but I’ll ask it anyway – those calibers are not front / rear specific are they?

Brand new shiny frame, all other bits in boxes, all ready for build, open weekend to work on it. First job: Bottom bracket. 10 minutes later, stripped bb thread. *sigh*

Giant trance is good value for the money. Not sure about frame size, but its an often overlooked (non boutique?) brand.

I read somewhere that one of the key benefits of horizontal (horst link style) is you have less hassle of shock and mounting positions across different sizes of bikes in the range, and you get predictable behavior from the shock.

I’d like to think that manufactures do all sorts of complex computer modelling to ensure the suspension platform is at its most efficient, before worrying about aesthetics – but then maybe not!

I had my bike nicked from my workshop (not a shed, but a stone built outhouse). Certainly targeted (didn’t touch anything else) – I’m pretty sure it was a delivery driver who had a poke around when we were out. Now use collect plus for pretty much any delivery. Especially bike components. If a driver drops off a nice set of carbon wheels at your house, there certainly a bling bike around somewhere.

Very nice OP. I’m sitting here drumming fingers in anticipation of my Smuggler on order. Rode a friends Scout last week, feels very capable. I like the idea of the invisframe.

Looks like you need a few washers to move the caliper out, the pad wear is too far down the rotor, and missing the outside by a few mm.
