Hi – I edited my previous post as I think I got three different types of brake mixed up in my memory!

I had two variants of RS685 – one with pre-bled hoses and fittings in the hose, one with full length uninterrupted hoses. My R8000 have a different fitting again (no olive fitted to the hose before inserting into the STI)

    (Edited)

Have a look at the attached (page 18) – not sure if RS685s are “easy fit” or not now (the previous 2 sets I’ve had weren’t)

Plus you can also use your own router and detach yourself from the provider’s equipment at the house end at least (unless they insist on using theirs).

    Yes, but:

I use my own router, so more interested in the performance of the broadband itself (sync speed and, more importantly, real world throughput as that would be most affected by the ISP’s network infrastructure and traffic shaping/QoS policies)

So, can anyone comment on the merits of EE vs. BT as a fibre ISP (and not the merits of their routers ;) )?

Several options here. Depends on how geeky you want to be. I’ve gone full geek with separate networks and per-device time limits with manual override as the sword of Damacles hanging over them

my colleague has a far less geeky solution that he swears by: disneycircle https://meetcircle.com

Haven’t demoed one but have ordered one. It just looks “right” on paper and in photos.

It’s the latest in a series of increasingly large ponies->horses, so familiar with bills, but not quite at this scale.

Yes, the policy excludes pre-existing conditions (as implied but not explicitly stated in my original post).

We don’t know definitively whether the condition was pre-existing.

Unfortunately there is *something* in the vetting notes that the insurance company claim shows it was pre-existing (effectively a pre-cursor to the condition that we’d like to claim for). However, it was merely a fairly innocuous observation by the vet.

Where I’ve had a pre-contract “survey” before (e.g. house survey, car report) the expert is usually at pains to explain the worst case scenario (wet rot, subsidence etc) if they make any observations, whereas here there was no warning of what it might be (whether it was or not).

I increasingly feel the vet has let us down – by noting something, but without telling us the worst case of what might have caused it (in which case we might not have completed the purchase) – he’s given the insurance company something to build their case on.

Can that storageworks box present NFS shares? If so ESXi (or whatever it’s called these days) can consume that directly.

Is that a mini-SAS cable? Like this? http://www.intelligentservers.co.uk/components/hp-external-mini-sas-2m-cable-407339-b21-408767-001/?gclid=CjwKCAjworfdBRA7EiwAKX9HeCw2WMP2_vbIKkuHLpLyfhhNDrZXfR5D2jHnX6iaWrwUvFxPT3eSsxoCCTAQAvD_BwE

whether it is or not, it’s not iSCSI so you can ignore the rest of what I said.

Not an expert in SAN but have a bit of storage background. Isn’t your MSA already an iSCSI SAN?

remove the storageworks (which i assume is the x1600 NAS head currently with the MSA as expansion capacity)from the equation and present the MSA SAN to the VMs per LUN?

Or are you trying to do something cleverer than that?

Seriously think about putting at least some in a pension. If you’re a 40% tax payer then if you put in £15k, it will immediately get grossed up by the pension company by the amount of basic rate tax and you can get the higher rate tax back when you do a tax return at year end. That means your £15k contribution (so you’ve still got £15k left over) has actually put £25k in your pension.

That’s £10k for free just by putting it away until you’re 55 (at the earliest).

Then you’ve got tax free gains too. I’ve made a 30% return on mine (#humblebrag) over the last two years by investing in specific stocks and shares (Amazon mostly) and arguably we’re at the end of a long bull market, but even if you get no gain for a few years and hold it in cash in your pension you’ve still made £10k off the bat.

I buy from a local office furniture recycling specialist. Bought a lovely leather chair that would have been>£500 new for £120 and another, not quite as fancy, for £90. Might be a similar outfit near you?

Is this it? Found via google, not sure where you can buy it, but it might be a start.

edit: probably not. Tree looks very similar but base isn’t

Another option – you can use an iPhone as a “bridge” from multiple bluetooth devices to the Apple TV 4K.

You run the Zwift companion app on your iPhone (a useful thing to do any way when riding on Zwift). You then pair the trainer, HRM, cadence etc via bluetooth with the iPhone (within the Zwift companion app) and then the app sends the information over wifi to the Apple TV (Apple TV and iPhone have to be on the same wifi network).

Worked for me, although I’ve now moved the trainer back to the office so I can use the iMac again. I do prefer the higher res graphics on an iMac (with Ultra settings) than the Apple TV can muster. But that’s just (minor) cosmetics; I also get to use the 100″ projector screen ;o)

[EDIT] Just to be extra clear – the trainer control (resistance, road feel etc) works fine with this approach. In fact, I’m fairly sure I got slightly less lag on changes to road feel (Tacx NEO) when paired through the iPhone app.

Yup – another one (no longer contracting) who has had a less than ideal experience with SJD. Painfully poor handling of routine stuff so don’t be tempted to go back to them!

I’ll have a pair of Guide REs for sale when I get back from holiday. Off a Commencal furious that’s been ridden 4 times from new (my lad prefers Shimano and is light enough to not really need 4 pot calipers even on a downhill bike).

having had avid trails in the past, which I really didn’t like, these seem nicely modulated but just overkill for what he needs.

If they cast it and then:

    1. You’ll need a letter from hospital confirming fitness to fly. Without this you may find the airline won’t let you on (even with a letter we had an argument with the Check-in staff at Birmingham). Usually they require that the cast has been on several days to do this as initial swelling will have subsided and risk of limb swelling at altitude to the point where it’s pushing painfully on the cast is reduced. Possibly enquire about a “split cast”, although we managed with a regular cast.

    2. You can still swim with lower leg or forearm in cast with a waterproof cover. Our holiday was saved from disaster with one of these when my lad broke his ankle 6 days before. You need a dry pro cover which seals tight (you pump the air out). Works well to keep sand out too.  https://castcovers.co.uk

We’re on our second D4. Both bought new. Both will have been replaced before warranty expires, although I am thinking about possibly keeping this one into year 4 with an (expensive) 3rd party warranty extension until the point when even they won’t cover major items.

anecdotal evidence from friends and acquaintances is horrific. I know of two where the engine seized after 3.5 years and less than 60,000 miles, needing replacement engines.

great place to be and tows 3 tonnes barely batting an eyelid.

even if it were brand new, if it’s from inside the EU there is no VAT or duty to pay. Same is true for second hand.

Another one for taxcalc. I’ve been using it since 1998 and each year import the previous year’s return, update and file with HMRC online (it remembers my login year on year) and then put it away again for another year. It lets you do 6 returns so I also do my wife’s and used to do my parents’ too while still working. So, I’m happy to pay £40 per year for convenience

I used to have a 5 series estate and now have a swb (aka compact) 62 plate Vito sport x. Probably paid over the odds for it with 120k miles but it’s great to drive. Have a car as well so it’s stayed parked up in this weather. As rear wheel drive it’s even larier than the 5 on snow) Did the alps run last year in it (had one warning light come on when I ran it on fumes to the final fill up) and had done it the year before in a leased T6. Much nicer with the v6 😊

I’ve got a 14” black inbred frame that was my lad’s if anyone interested. It didn’t get much use as I found an XS Anthem and built that as well. Just stripped the inbred down and ready for sale.

Greentyre! Were they the solid tyres that had a brief outing in the early 90s? It took zip ties and massive levers to fit the buggers in the shop I worked in. Terrible things especially if the shop boy did a big skid and flat spotted them

My lad used one on the front for the first time yesterday at a pretty muddy DH race at Farmer John’s with a shorty on the back. Very draggy – I think it needs to be even wetter to be the right tyre, the sort where it’s liquid gloop. As it was, it was more “claggy” than “gloopy” and a shorty would probably have been better on the front too..

    TL; DR:

I’m talking about when it gets really wet and minging btw, not now.

    Exactly.

What you need is a race BMX. The skill of the kids who can ride pump tracks well on these is amazing. Whole laps, getting faster each time, without pedalling. My lad can do it. I can’t.

I do however have a 24″ “cruiser size” race BMX Up for sale now that I’ve proved that point

Oooh – that sub_sub_sub folder thing could be the issue. Some filesystems have a 256 character max “filename” which *includes* all of the folder names in the hierarchy above where the file lives. So the filename of sub1/sub2/sub3/foo.text would be counted as sub1sub2sub3foo.text possibly with other escape characters to show the hierarchy. If you blow through the 256 characters with folder names it’ll error. I vaguely remember something like that affecting me years ago when I had a NAS rather than my current cloudy setup..

Thanks colp. Yes I’d run it into morzine on fuel vapours and, although the light only came on after I’d refuelled, a day of driving (just to Les lindarets and back for lunch) has seen it clear. I’ll buy an OBD back in UK.

You’ll struggle with iDevices and ANT. Either accept that and buy a Bluetooth HRM (the smart trainer will do cadence) or go with a PC (or mac) and ant+ dongle.
