@w00dster – I have a set of Assiomas coming from a crank-based PM. Have been faultless over the last 6 months. I have flown with them twice and put them on hire bikes, hit “calibrate” and ridden off without a second thought.
Vanilla bikes have a permanent £25 off > £500 so they are the cheapest I think.
dc2.0Full MemberUnused/unfitted set of Deore 6000 in OEM packaging for £80 posted here if anyone wants them
dc2.0Full MemberWent loads when the kids were young. We liked St Brelades Bay Area. Went back last year for the first time in a while and stayed in these self catering cottages. Attached to a hotel so you can use pool and restaurant if you want..
dc2.0Full MemberAre you taking on any financial risk/potential liability that you want to keep separate from your own personal liability? If not then for three months it is unlikely to be worth the hassle of setting up a LTD. You can always do that later. There are plenty of potential exceptions to this rule of thumb but that’s the main one I can think of.
dc2.0Full MemberWas a hardcore nanny state fan but this is better; tried in on draught first in London and then saw it in my local supermarket. Switched allegiances to AF now. Slightly more calories though
dc2.0Full MemberI think I have the brakes you need. Let me check the spares bin to see if still there..
dc2.0Full MemberNope – got up at 2 ! Not the outcome I expected!! Got to love a bit of Valyrian steel! I hope you all have a decent tv with true blacks!!!
I watched it on the bedroom TV at 5.30 this morning. Will have to rewatch it this evening on the OLED downstairs. Epic, but couldn’t help thinking that it needed to be watched on a decent screen!
dc2.0Full MemberIgnore the uplift bit as that’s clearly a distraction 😂; that’s a fall back if no ebike available.
Where else might I be able to rent a small/med fs ebike around there?
Spoke to alpine before I posted this only two ebike currently in service both xl 😳
dc2.0Full MemberHow long has the money been in premium bonds? It can take a while for money to actually turn into bonds that are actively in the monthly draw. There’s a full calendar month wait so money paid in early Jan wouldn’t be in the draw until March. If you’ve not been in long, factor that into your effective interest rate. I haven’t got any at the moment but was maxed out for a while and earning 1.6% on them. Not great but with a tiny hope each month of a windfall 😃
dc2.0Full MemberA different perspective: how about a move into a more commercial role? I graduated with an electronics engineering degree but after a couple of years developing stuff I realised I couldn’t see me in a cubicle for the rest of my career. I went to work for one of the software companies whose products we used in an application engineering role and haven’t looked back. I have long since moved into an outright sales role. I’m not a gregarious extrovert like many of my fellow salespeople but (I’d like to think) my customers value the understanding I have of their business. It’s worked out well for me.
dc2.0Full MemberMarmite = Dead brewers yeast that has been fined with the swim bladders of south east asian little fishes .. Yet its labelled as Vegan .
Isn’t that Worcestershire sauce or something of that ilk? I don’t think they do much processing of the dead yeast in marmite except salt.
I am not a food scientist but I do live near the home of marmite
dc2.0Full MemberSome races have staggered start times for different categories so it is possible that a 8pm race could start 10 mins later for lower categories. Look inside the event description for more info on category start times
dc2.0Full MemberNot what you asked but have you thought about an Apple Watch with built in 3G/4G. Don’t know whether it’ll do everything your running watch will so but it might..
dc2.0Full MemberJust be careful of where the seatstay bridge is. I had a frame (not theirs) that was long enough in the chainstay, fine for chainstay bridge clearance but seatstay bridge fouled. Irony was that it was a disc frame so bridge could have been much higher..
dc2.0Full MemberI have a pair of unused lock rings that will work. PM me if interested
dc2.0Full MemberOn the paternity issue – even doing the blue eye/brown eye experiment in school biology lessons can lead to awkward conversations..
dc2.0Full Member23andMe gives a detailed (but who knows if accurate) analysis. It also turned up a bunch of second cousins in Canada I wasn’t previously aware of. I’m apparently slightly less Neanderthal that the average European too.
dc2.0Full Member@OP have a look at this. Wire 3 is the bell wire and usually redundant in modern setups. See here for more info https://kitz.co.uk/adsl/socket.htm
dc2.0Full MemberNot directly on topic, but have you tried the various tips for improving broadband speed, like plugging directly into the master socket and/or removing “wire 3”?
I got another couple of Mbps when I did this when I was still on ADSL. I’m about a km from my FTTC cabinet, so I still “only” get 32Mbps now ;o)
dc2.0Full MemberAlso, look at how much she has earned from the additional work.
It looks as though if she earns less than £1000 between 6 April 2018 and 5 April 2019 she doesn’t need to self-assess.
I stand to be corrected, but I don’t think that’s true. It’s the total income amount across all work (not just the additional work) that defines whether you need to self-assess.
dc2.0Full MemberI’ve been using http://www.taxcalc.com for the last 20 or so years. Surprised they haven’t gone “cloud” yet, but I install it each year to do mine and anyone in the family who needs it that year. Yes, you can submit all the information directly online at HMRC these days using their forms, but taxcalc remembers stuff from one year to the next (including gov submission login) so I just change anything that’s different from the previous year using their “wizard” and resubmit. I’d recommend looking at it if you think you might be doing this for more than one year..
dc2.0Full MemberAlso OP: you said “leasing as a way of purchasing one ”
A true lease (PCH) is literally that: you are leasing a car (with no option of ownership(*)) for a contracted term. Are you thinking of Hire Purchase (HP) or PCP, rather than leasing (PCH)?
(*) You may be offered the opportunity to buy it, but that’s at the lease company’s discretion.
dc2.0Full MemberAgree with the above on downsides. Also be aware of the excess mileage cost if you go over the contracted value.
However, on the positive side: if you find a good deal (there’s 3000+ page pistonheads thread tracking the latest deals; the bad news is with WTLP and various reduced manufacturing outputs at the moment there isn’t a lot of excess capacity that they want to “shift”, which is when you get the very best deals) then proper leasing (aka PCH) can be fantastic. You just have to be flexible on make/model and timing to get the very best deals.
If you have a specific car/specification in mind then, whilst you might be lucky to find a decent PCH deal on it, you may well find PCP works out better from a “total cost of ownership” perspective over the term. For example I’ve just paid buttons for a fantastic 2 year lease on a great car (which I wasn’t really interested in, but the deal was amazing), but really have my heart set on a new Alfa. PCH deals on Alfas are rubbish (especially the excess mileage cost) but the PCP terms are pretty good.
dc2.0Full MemberHave a look at my chameleon joey in the new classifieds. Folds small (albeit not as small as a Brompton) but rides much more like a proper bike ;)
dc2.0Full MemberI’m now very lactose intolerant. Couldn’t drink milk since late childhood, then yoghurt became problematic in 20s and by 30s couldn’t even eat cheese anymore without dire “repurcussions”. However, once I discovered lactase tablets 3 years ago (from holland and Barrett or Amazon, although doses are not all the same so need to figure out how many you need of each) I can happily indulge in cheese, or food that has been prepared with milk (so always have a few stashed in work bags, car etc). Still won’t drink the stuff though; blurghh…
dc2.0Full MemberI have had an LG 55 OLED (e series) for about a year now. As they say: price is soon forgotten but quality is a constant reminder. Absolutely love mine. Picture quality is amazing on 4K (INC Netflix and Amazon) and still impressive even on HD terrestrial
dc2.0Full MemberI think upg means you’re actually just over the cat threshold and it suggests you should upgrade. Previously (don’t know if still valid) you could get away with this a couple of times before it would DQ you..
dc2.0Full MemberJust a trainer and Apple TV is fine as long as your trainer (and HRM) are Bluetooth, as it doesn’t support ANT. It has to be the latest version (“Apple TV 4K”) to work. Only limitation of this approach is the number of Bluetooth devices supported so if power/cadence are from different devices to the trainer you would need to bridge them via the mobile app.
So.. it’s fine if you have a Bluetooth trainer and Bluetooth HRM and don’t rely on any other devices for power or cadence. If you do, you’ll need to look at the zwift app on an iOS device to bridge them
dc2.0Full MemberI had a car on lease from VWFS which was collected directly by BCA. BCS and VWFS aren’t directly connected (apart from being contracted to dispose of the vehicle at auction) and I don’t think having another car from VWFS will sway the assessor.
Having said that, the fees were very fair – two scuffed alloys £50 each (19” diamond cut alloys, so not cheap to get done locally) and £200 for a large dent someone left me with in a car park..
dc2.0Full MemberBtw it’s a boost frame but I’ve used non boost forks and a boost adapter kit for the rear wheel. I was buying a new group set (gx eagle) anyway but you might have to do something about the cranks/chainring if transferring over
dc2.0Full MemberPace 627. Looks great on paper. I might finally get around to riding mine for the first time on Friday…
dc2.0Full MemberDon’t forget the potential “taper” on what you can put into a pension these days. You’d have to be earning a fair whack to be affected this year, but watch for it changing in future years (you used to be able to put loads in, but at the far end of the taper you can now only put £10k per year in tax free). Max your current and previous year’s allowances if you can..
dc2.0Full MemberYou can:
A) just pootle round on your own
B) follow a structured training plan (but carried out in the Zwift world)
c) join one of the many social rides at various paces.
D) racedc2.0Full MemberMix and match – traditional onsen in the mountains (lake suwa is about 2 hours from Tokyo on the train and fairly well developed so ok for first time visitor, you can come back via the Hokushu whiskey distillery and Fuji) , then weird techno fetish clubs in Tokyo. Don’t bother with roppongi unless you want to be ripped off by Gaijin hustlers (according to a “friend”, who left a “bar” $1500 lighter)
dc2.0Full MemberI’m so pleased to find out this is a thing for other people too.
Whenever I recall any memory which triggers a negative emotion (eg mild embarasment at something I did or said), my subconscious blurts out a random phrase, often a complete surprise to me any anyone else in the room who asks what I meant by it, to which I reply absolutely no idea!
I say things like “oh dear” or “oww” out loud, I can’t control it happening, just what I do when it happens.
dc2.0Full MemberAnyone want to swap their Kickr for my neo? Or buy my neo?
I’m training for a big ride over the Pyrenees next year so have just ordered a Kickr climb (on special offer) so need to get a compatible trainer.
Willing to sell the neo for £575 with an 11 speed Shimano cassette fitted if anyone interested
dc2.0Full Memberedit- iCloud photo sharing rubbish. May come back later with puppy photos ;o)
dc2.0Full MemberEchoing Hamishthecat: when I were a lad working in my LBS I was taught that the best solution to a stuck seatpost was to remove saddle, clamp post in vice and twist frame. Lots more leverage that way.
If you’ve already taken the seatpost head off it’ll likely crush in the vice and then (if aluminium) disintegrate above the seatube collar.
if so, there’s a guy who used to specialise in removing posts who might be able to help, I’ll just google if he’s still doing it…
.. yup: http://theseatpostman.com
(shame I didn’t know about him when I asked a local engineering firm to ream out a very stuck seatpost in a classic daccordi steel frame with disastrous consequences)
dc2.0Full MemberSounds like your fitting is like the J-Kit fitting, but directly to the STI rather than to an external junction fitting.
I’m going to back away from this thread before I give you duff advice.
