I’ve got the Thule folding towbar one. Fits an XL vitus e-sommet. Expensive but VERY good. Just been to the Alps and back with it.

Can’t help you with your quest but I do have some absolute black oval chainrings in 50/34 with the matching “bolt caps” if anyone is interested. <250miles on them. Fit both Ultegra and Dura-Ace but colour is a close match to Ultegra grey.

Looks like weather good until Tuesday then storms. If previous years anything to go by they’ll hopefully be limited to evenings and it’ll dry In the day. Had a beer in rhodos tonight and manager said queues for lifts have been huge so it’s an early start for us on sat and heading towards Châtel where the queues are less bad apparently…

Just arrived. Town surprisingly busy (seems busier than last year) and Carrefour was rammed.

Thanks Matt – I’ve PMed you.

Brenin – saw your other post about your trip from a few weeks back. Sounds like there’s a group of you coming. If you fancy a beer tomorrow night let me know.

I tried various fuzzy matches macros previously; didn’t have much luck. I’d suggest spending some time cleaning up the original data list with global search/replace. E.g replace all “:” with “”. Then name the range of your source list and use vlookup to check if each value of the new list occurs anywhere in the named range.

What is the max contribution to your pension per age group?

For anyone posting here there is almost certainly not an age-related cap on what you can pay in. There is an Earnings-related cap and a lifetime contribution cap. Most people can (together with their employer) pay up to £40k per year. If you earn more than a certain amount, that comes down.

At some annual income levels, this results in 62% tax saving on pension contributions! At others, it acts as a massive marginal tax penalty.

My advice: Ditch the mesh, run more Ethernet, use a PoE switch, have PoE access points and terminate to back boxes. I have UniFi in-wall APs that provide both WiFi and Ethernet upstairs. If you use PoE you can also add additional PoE-Powered switches wherever you need more connections off a single main Ethernet connection to your master switch.

I have Modem->firewall->PoE switch near the Master BT socket. Then 3 runs of cat5e out the wall, up behind a drain pipe, along the gable and then down into various places. Various additional PoE switches and APs hanging off Those

I just tried finding my original registration email from the old gofar site (wasn’t on the topica email list though, so still a relative newbie at ~20 years), but it must have been to a different address that I no longer use. I was certainly here on STW pre-hack (dc) and then post hack (dc2.0). I’ve probably posted less in that time than some do in a week but it’s a great font of knowledge so happy to keep paying my subs.

The following applies to the 26” wheel version..

There were two versions of the 14” frame – short and long top tube. There was also a women’s version that was identical (in geo at least) to the short TT 14”.

My son had the latter, which had been resprayed. Great bike and looked better than the 18” that replaced it (growth spurt!). Sold frame for £350 last year.

Just buy a cheap phone case and stick it to that. That’s what I did for exactly the same use case (no pun intended) as you have.

Unless your “dumb” trainer is on the list of supported trainers, your in-game speed will bear no direct relation to what everyone else is doing in terms of effort/speed.

Zwift needs to know your POWER not speed. It then works out the appropriate in-game speed based on your power, your weight and the incline/decline. There are various equations that convert all these parameters into speed.

What zwift does support is the use of a (bluetooth/ant) rear wheel speed sensor with a SUPPORTED dumb trainer as for those trainers it has an approximate “map” (graph) of rear wheel speed and power for that model. That POWER ESTIMATE then gets fed into Zwift’s speed calculations. If you’re not using a recognised trainer and just pick one at random, your POWER will probably be way off and hence speed too.

However, even if you don’t have a supported trainer, it’ll get you started at least..

“I hate(d) the turbo but zwift is good *”

Yes, up to October 2016 I had previously owned 3 different turbos over 15 years, all of which got barely used before I moved them on.

In November 2016 I got my first smart turbo for zwift and 8,000km later still loving it.

I have however upgraded the smart turbo a couple of times and now on a Neo 2.

Sorry to hear that. Who told you to go home? Director or administrator? I assume the administrator but they should have given you more guidance as it sounds like you’ve been made redundant with no notice. You’ll have a claim against the company that the administrator will deAl with eventually but you also should get some money sooner from the insolvency service. Also, sign on unless you’re absolutely nailed on for new work. If anything gets delayed you’ll have a small buffer from them. More here:

Hi I’ve got a Moda Major that you can have for £150 if you’re anywhere near the midlands.

Also, a whole range of sizes of SPD shoes from 34-44. He wears mine now 😳

I’ve got Ubiquiti for the router, switches (PoE), access points (powered by Poe). I have a VDSL modem (old openreach one). I also use their PoE cctv cameras. All good stuff and very solid so little to manage beyond the initial setup.

Having had an oil fired boiler for 15 years now (and i think it’s pushing 30
years old now), I’d echo some of the above:

Old boilers go on and on (new ones don’t, according to the guy that services ours)
    They’re pretty simple things
Assuming fuel isn’t contaminated with water
Then if it’s doing “something” for a bit but then cutting out it’s likely to be one of these:

Failed solenoid (acts as a deadlock/cutoff to the fuel)
    Failed/failing motor
    Dirty/failed photo sensor
    Blocked/damaged nozzle

We’ve had all of those happen and in all cases it will still try to start (make some noise) before cutting out.

(Edit: just spotted it was the photo sensor)

Left field suggestion: get them to pay it into your pension for you (salary sacrifice) along with a share of the employer’s NI they’ll be saving).

Matters not then about employee NI, but of course means the money is out of reach for a bit.

As per CraigW – I have a small (2) and a large (8?) stainless steel bialetti mokka pot. Both used to work fine on a halogen hob. Now we have an induction hob, only the large one works.

Which means I have to make a pot every other day and keep the rest in the fridge. That works well for me as I prefer an Americano, so always top up with water anyway..

Anyone interested in a small steel pot with a brand new seal just fitted (before I discovered it didn’t work on my new induction hob..)?

With power line, note that you need to have two units that will connect your router to your cellar. They will need to be on the same branch of your home wiring to get decent performance (or, worst case, any performance at all). If cellar wiring was done later to house ring main, and is on different connection on consumer unit, it may not work well.

    Hi OP
Do some research on what visa requirements you might need. If you’re currently employed then you’re skirting a fine line already if just using ESTA, but if contracting you may need something more robust. (I hope I’m wrong for your sake but if you’re travelling there that often then sooner or later they’ll flag you up and investigate (have seen this happen))

It’s a 50/34 pair of these. £145 new. Very little use (few hundred miles). £95 posted. Obviously only going to be of interest if you actually want to try oval chainrings. https://absoluteblack.cc/oval-road-da-9100-ultegra-8000-chainring

I built up a 627 last winter. I’ve barely used it. Once properly off road I think. I just don’t MTB any more apart from uplift trips with my son, when I take the full sus.

So this is a stealth ad for a barely used Size Large rc627 with 150mm Pikes (TF coil conversion) with GX eagle group set.

Just resurrecting this to say thank you to everyone who posted advice. After a protracted exchange with the insurer we took them to the FOS who ruled in our favour. No lawyers were required and the insurer paid in full.

The irony is that this same horse later became lame so we put her out to pasture and got another one.

Moral of the story (which everyone knows anyway) is keep your kids away from horses.

If the idea is feasible then surely there are investment schemes, grants, collaboratives, etc. that would be interested in exploring it further, but I don’t know the first thing about developing an idea.

This is the bit where you’ve got a classic chicken-and-egg or (more bluntly) you’ve got the cart before the horse. Technical feasibility is a minimal “gate” to a business, but it’s really only a small part of a successful business and that other stuff needs to be clear.

Maybe find a local start-up incubator and learn about the *process*, without necessarily disclosing too much. That’s not necessarily because they’re untrustworthy but because you may later need to file patents to give you protection/leverage negotiating with customers and other investors. Any disclosure that is NOT under NDA is considered public domain (or, even if it is under NDA and in any case leaked into the public domain) and is thereafter no longer patentable.

Sorry to sound so negative, but I’ve seen people waste a lot of time/money pursuing something because “they wanted to be right, not rich” (or, perhaps “flogged a dead horse) even if the idea was sound. Investors (even grant schemes, which is a whole minefield in itself) expect to see a business plan that shows sustainability. Real investors will want to see significant growth/return on investment.

If you want to be an entrepreneur, get a handle on the business plan before you start chasing investment. As others have said £2.5k pays for about a week if you’re relying on contractors. Unless it’s a really trivial application, you’ll need to be raising tens if not hundreds of thousands of seed funding to develop a prototype/MVP version of the product, or (if you can afford it), using your own time/assets as “sweat equity” and then going out for a proper round.

Alternatively (and much better), get a customer lined up (with NDAs and contract) and deliver to them. Investors’ money is only ever a poor proxy for customer revenue.

PM me if you like. I spent 10 years doing the above and learned a few lessons that I’m trying to relay here.

Have you worked out how you’ll “monetise” this package?
    Who will buy it?
    How will they buy it?
What else will they need to buy?
If it’s successful, will the other vendors in the industry be able to add this capability and cut you out?
Work back from that and then think forward about different routes/options/challenges for getting to the point where it genuinely *is* a business.
Otherwise just because it seems like a good idea, doesn’t mean it’s a viable business.

(I’ve done a few start-ups myself. They didn’t make me rich; make of that what you will ;o) )

Bought LB road rims. Took about 3 weeks and had to pay import duty and VAT (make a payment to courier before they will deliver). This was before any option to ship via Europe. Worked out about £180/rim all-in.

Ryan Builds Wheels built them for me on a pair of Hope RS4 hubs. I went for expensive cx-Ray spokes but heavier brass nipples (which shouldn’t corrode, unlike alu, which was one reason I didn’t want off the peg).

That got me a set of very nice wheels for ~£800. Weigh 1540g (would be sub 1500g with alu nipples).

Cheaper hubs and spokes would probably get you to £550-600 for not much more weight)

If you’re willing to forego the electric screen, should be doable with new stuff if you shop around.

TBH, we’ve stopped using ours since we got an OLED screen in the living room and the kids are older.

So.. I might have a second hand setup for sale for ~£500 if you’re interested and near the midlands
