tumbleweed….Sorted via other means. If anyone finds this thread in the future:

Lower adaptor is optional for the air spring. Tool will fit both.

Plastic washer is a spare volume spacer for additional tuning of the air chambers.

Pretty much every answer on this thread is spot on. I hope you listen to it OP.

I started saying NO a few years ago. It really is scary, you think you’re going to be treated as a dickhead. It takes balls to start saying No after years of just getting in with everything. But after a few firm No’s it’s like a new beginning. It means you can all agree what is and isn’t going to get done. When someone disagrees, they get to decide which things get replaced in the stop pile, they don’t get both things in the Go pile.
Try it. You might quite enjoy it.

Oh and turn your phone OFF at weekends and put it in a drawer and don’t charge it. Those things are like the sirens of the lake, they’ll drag you in!

If I was trying to avoid the results I’d be very pissed off that every official feed ad I’ve seen contains the results spoiler.
Doesn’t bode well for the DH which I really do try to avoid spoiling before watching. It’s a minor thing but I do like it when broadcasters try to avoid the big spoiler.

I just can’t stand Ric McL’s commentary style. To the point where I just stopped watching the highlight shows last year.

Tried the Assegai (2.5WT) on the front last year after all the hype. It was fine but in the end I decided it was too DH for me. My feeling is it suits high speed tech rather than my (very) low speed tech. Probably a good fit for the OP’s description.
I’ve gone back to a DHR2 on the front (same as rear). Instantly felt a better match to my ride style.
Was tempted to try the new Conti range but you cant just go mixing tyre brands on a bike now can you? Big Fat No.

Mark – it’s not just today, it’s been a problem forever. And the thread has started complaining about ads, but that’s not the problem.
On iPhone – the page will regularly and randomly disappear and reload or disappear and fail to reload with a ‘server error’.
For me today this has happened 5 and 1 times respectively. One of those was just now while typing this.

Is this a common known problem?

And since Shell was not even the new lead sponsor you’ve got to wonder what options he had lined up for the big one.
    Big Pharma I’m guessing. 🙂

    Thanks all.
I’ve opened it up, cleaned and regreased.
Seems smoother but pretty sure it will be play that leads to binding so I can’t see grease making much difference long term. I’ll see how long it stays ok.

Cover it in oil! Or put it in a quart can of oil. With a cool phrase in the covering letter. Like that bit in Quantum of Solice.

BC’s latest update doesn’t help much.
They’re going to make cycling more accessible. – Not without grassroots support they’re not.
They’re going to recruit a Sustainability Manager. – I hope they like working with Shell’s sustainability department.
They’re going to inspire more people to ride across Britain. – The only thing they’ve inspired so far is to cancel BC membership.

My mate has now quit her role as Breeze ride leader, which she had been doing an amazing job of. This is so sad.
I’ll wager a number of GoRide coaches are gone soon.

The facts about oil and logic about funding are no match for ethics and values. The collateral damage is starting to look very big indeed.

I hope it was worth it BC.

Rotors are RT66 so resin or sintered ok
I’ll check but sure it’ll be a resin pad.
I think i’ll stick with these 6100s and leave the 2pots on the HT.

yep – going to give them a bleed first. IT was new in April so not really seen any crap weather until now.
I dont think theres anything wrong with the pads, not even sure what they are – resin or sintered.

And ‘Resin only’ rotors??! Seriously? How do i check on that one?

Most of those types of shelters aren’t really designed to stay up all summer so the UV will get them.
    They’re event shelters.

But if UV gets them then they’re not going to last many summer events either.
Are there any that ARE designed to stay up long (and short) term?
Or am i thinking of a garden house!

Yes that’s the plan – just have them visible if we need them.
I think the Forksight feature is now on too, which will probably be equal parts annoying/useful.

Are you maybe selecting a profile that has the TrailForks base map turned off?

    @frogstomp

    Thanks – That fixed it!
Did the ‘Unlock map’ thing from that video, then the Trailforks map syncd to the Edge.
I went into the Mountain bike profile and the new Trailforks base map was disabled. Enabled it and went to browse the map. After a crash and restart (hmmm) all the trailforks trails are now visible on the map when browsing.

Liking the look of the Dyfi forest trails. Bit of an adventure to go find some new stuff.

I assume its the big mass of Trailforks trails just NE of the Dyfi bike park trails?
And close to CyB. How is CyB these days?

The ones that come to mind are
The Beast, Potato Alley and Lockerbrook
but as above – if you’ve graded Cavedale as a 2/5 i think you’re looking at Redbull Hardline to get to 5/5

From Derby, to anywhere in wales is fine.
Dyfi – I’ve been told there’s excellent trails from near the Dyfi Adventure campsite. Are these findable?

If you like guitars (of course you do), loud guitars and you’re in Derby, come see my band Agent Utah Saturday (25) at Horse&Groom off Kedleston rd.
It’s loud and it’s rock. Evh, Gibson, PRS, Chapman – all there for your Guitarists of Singletrack Geek Out 🙂

Nottingham is actually very good for cycling but some of the big new developments with their huge roundabout one way multi lane systems are a joke, like they totally forgot about bikes.

    As above advise
Find the quietest road route even if it’s a bit longer.
Own the road space you’re on.
Big long looks behind you well before any moves you need to make.
    Eye contact with the drivers.
    Lights all year round.

I run flat bars and ride up high so I can see everything. Can’t stand commuting on a drop bar low down position, I feel very vulnerable.

Oh and one more thing – assume every driver has not seen you and wants to kill you.

Short track coverage was the worst TV camerawork I’ve seen in a long time. Spectators covering the action, blurry out of focus views, no coverage of the gnarly bits. Awful.

Octopus have been great from our move from Avro. They’ve given us the recommended DD hike but been clear we can set it to what we want.
I have a energy readings spreadsheet that goes back years. It’s quite staggering to see how much gas pence per kWh has gone up over the years. But I know exactly how much this massive hike is going to cost me. I can thoroughly recommend maintaining a spreadsheet of all your tariffs and readings, never rely on the supplier websites, they’re all terrible.

    Elec up
    Gas up
    Interest rates up
    NI up
    Food up
    Petrol up

Before the MAX debacle 737s suffered from rapid uncommanded rudder movement problems. That can easily send a plane into a nosedive. We’ll, that and an anti aircraft missile like Russia used on Malaysian MH12.

We do all know that Vitus and Nukeproof are the same company, right? It’s all CRCWiggle.

I knew Vitus but didn’t know Nukeproof are CRC. Does someone have made a WHO OWNS WHO chart for the bike brands? It used to be quite easy to keep track, but not now.

I don’t know, hopefully we’ve hit a ceiling on new gear prices now. Disposable income is reducing across the board, surely there are less of these mythical mysterious buyers who keep the market price of a pushbike above that of a motorbike…

8 pages in and we’re no closer to being able to recommend the OP a bike, as we don’t know what they want, save for XT, or what their budget is…

But I didn’t ask for recommendations. If I wanted to I’d start a specific thread, and this forum is always super helpful for that.

It’s good to hear that many of the replies are from people who have not been priced out of it and are finding ways to keep rolling, some that seem to need massive dedication or time.

I still think there are plenty of us who know EXACTLY what we want, brands/spec/components/bikes/whatever and now have to choose to pay more for less. Several times in the past year I’ve chosen to not pay more and ride less. Which sucks for me.
‘Just get a budget hardtail from Aldi’ is missing the point completely.

    Interesting range of responses.
I’m very good at buying once and running things into the ground for years. We all have brands and specs we trust. I don’t get all the replies that essentially say ‘you don’t want that, you should do what I do’.

When things need replacing, upgrading, renewing for whatever good personal reason, they won’t be and there will be less riding.
    Not ‘no riding’, just less.

    dazzydw

    That’s the point.
Over (plenty) of years I built up to good spec bikes, love riding them. Call em the XT general spec. Could afford them.
Now I can’t stay at the level I’m accustomed too. I’d have to downgrade to entry level on a new one, which isn’t in stock anyway. Or convince the seller of a used one that my lowball offer is actually mediumball.
