Having taken a few months off STW, I’ve missed the whole TJ episode (I presume there was some kind of episode) – can someone fill us in?

At uni full time now at 41 (doing MSc in Outdoor Education) and going again next year to do a PGDE – so 2 years full time in total. Difficulties – money obviously. Slight feeling of being of an older generation. Pros – opening eyes to a whole new world – almost literally. Meeting people from around the world and getting a real change of scene. I would recommend it but eyes need to be wide open obviously. Happy to speak further or meet if you’re in Edinburgh area – email in profile.

As to other students having a hate of you ^^^ – haven’t seen any of that – depends on attitudes and people you’re with. If you’re studying at Masters level then you’ll find everyone is there to learn and the work is too hard to fanny about. If you’re back at undergrad level then ymmv.

Our last lab developed arthritis in his elbows aged 3 and was on all sorts of medication and supplements from a very young age. 8 years and £40k of treatment later (including rebuilding his spine twice) the only thing that kept him going was prednoleucotropin, or PLT – a steroid. It was pretty nasty stuff but worked where others such as Metacam, Zantin (sp?) etc all failed. It is a drug of last resort but he was on it for 5 years and when we tried to wean him off it and go to other “softer” drugs we always ended back at the PLT. Side effects were not drastic – his coat became a bit thin but I can honestly say it gave him maybe 4 years of quality life where all else failed. It has the added benefit of being cheap as chips. I cannot praise it strongly enough. And +1 for keeping the weight off – not easy with a lab but makes a world of difference.

Just 2 months before he died. Still missed.

Last year Les Gets was sold out within about 30 mins. I was in at 15 mins and got in – mate at 0930 didn’t. Further off piste starts like Torgon and Chatel had places available for a few hours. Mind you this was for a Sunday start. I expect Friday to be quieter and Saturday busier but have no evidence to back that up. We’re going for Friday this year hoping for the lifts to be a bit quieter.

Felt exactly the same as you when I was 29. Didn’t have kids till I was 37. Have spent last 5 years wishing I’d had kids when I was 29. Once you’re there you’ll love it – all the things you mention like travel will still happen – but you’ll have much better things to focus on.

buyer was told about it and that it would be fitted

I think that’s the point that Neally is making – buyer was told it would be fitted, but it wasn’t.

Anyhoo – even if your point had some merit, which most seem to think it doesn’t, your method of delivery was always going to get flamed – I presume you can see that?

Thanks guys – good info – might dig out the suit after all! I think I’ll have no problem on the geography front or the passion/commitment – if anything I’m going to struggle on the current issues point – so I’m all over the education websites at the moment too.

The cafe and facilities are the most unhygienic I’ve ever seen at a trail centre.

    FTFY.

Interesting development though – certainly one to watch to see if any of the ruckus made about Glentress filters through to here.

Ah – got it! That’s how I hoped it would work. Now annoyed I hadn’t signed up sooner as I would’ve made the top 10 for the Nevis Red on Sunday (hardly a World Cup performance but still).

Oh yes I can see how this becomes addictive! I’m willy waving already and I haven’t uploaded a single ride yet.

Lumix G3. Done. DSLR at this level not worth it. Image quality and handling streets ahead of compacts. Flexibility with some great lenses available when you have a few more quid to spend.

Edit. See you don’t want lenses. Fair nuff but there if you want it. I wouldn’t get excited about zoom – longer 10x zooms all but useless without tripod/monopod etc which sounds like the opposite of where you want to go.

I wouldn’t. Have had a whole range of DSLRs culminating in a Canon 7D. Recently purchased Olympus OMD E_M5 and all the Canon gear – lenses and all – has been sold.

DSLR just too big – to the point where I ended up with 4 or 5 cameras trying to cover all the bases. The M5 is perfect for just about everything. With a 20mm pancake lens it is a compact camera. Image quality is easily on a par with the 7D. Burst speed is as fast in fact faster. All in all I won’t be going back to SLR size gear.
