the picture of Mr Brennan in the back of every issue of the Private Eye makes him look like an annoying, self-satisfied bstard. And for that reason, I’m out.

dazzlingboy – the ‘too tired’ thing clearly refers to the OP not you

    ah – sorry.

Perhaps, but don’t then look for sympathy if other options are available but you are too ‘tired’ to consider them.

Eh? As stated above I’ve rehomed (as in taken in) 2 dogs. What are you on about with the “too tired” chat?

Angeldust – I’m not so sure – best for dog IMO is a new start in life. That’s going to be tough on owner for sure, but better for all I think.

    resorting to rehoming

Is “tough love” preferable to rehoming? I’d say not.

    mind bogglingly selfish

There are a huge number, probably the majority, of Americans who are the most fantastic people – unfortunately there are also a huge number who are exactly that.

Cutting through some of the carp above and answering your question.

YES you’re going the right thing. We’ve taken in 2 rehomed dogs – one from someone who emigrated and one who was “left behind” after a divorce. Both settled in quickly and absolutely love being with us and get spoiled rotten. Do they look back wistfully at their previous life? No. Did the owners feel guilty as hell? Yes, but the dogs are having a great life and have turned out to be great dogs. So much so that I doubt we would ever get a puppy again with such fantastic dogs needing a second chance.

just watching the live coverage on the bbc website – is it just me or are 75% of the people there journalists/photographers/camera crews? Seems like about 25 people causing a ruckus.

    Yes do it.

Was following a mini bus last week – empty apart from driver who opened his window and chucked out a load of McD wrappers, drink cartons etc – loads of rubbish all over the place.

Nothing makes my blood boil more so I phoned the number on the back of the mini bus, spoke to the boss and asked him what kind of advert that is for his business? Next time I’m looking for a mini bus hire you can be sure they’re not on the list. Boss was right apologetic – hope the driver got a bollocking.

No – aftermarket rim brake bosses sit much lower and are clamped around the leg. Mine has the holes too – no idea what they’re for.

If anything I ride slightly more as less family type commitments etc.

The only time an order has been later than next day was when I paid by paypal

I always pay by paypal – an order last week ordered Sunday arrived Thursday.

Has anyone noticed a difference between paypal vs direct paying?

Great everywhere! Is the only 4×4 that somehow doesn’t make you look an w****r. On my ninth one – a great vehicle if you’re prepared to live with its limitations. Like every vehicle it has compromises. Looking forward to the new one in the next few years – will be interesting to see how that comes out – fingers crossed they don’t make an arse of it!

Slightly off topic but same theory.

Walking along the Union Canal at Harrison Park yesterday – lots of walkers with and without dogs. I have 3 year old in tow (to feed the ducks) as well as two dogs. Lots of cyclists too. What pisses me off are bike riders who ride along this shared path at warp 9. Most are OK, but some (heading to the Pentlands usually, so on a big mission) are simply reckless. Dogs, children and all are in danger of getting mashed.

what pi55es me off are riders that take their dogs and let them effectively roam wild. IMO this is plain **** dangerous to all

    agreed

I put it in a bag and hang it up on a tree

is this a troll? Hope so.

So, if I could ride The Beast round Glentress, could I ride this?

it’s up to you to navigate round them whether it’s a slow rider that just starting out or a dog taking a leak

fair comment, but it is the sudden high speed randomness of dogs stopping/starting/coming out of the bushes/chasing squirrels that makes them that much harder to predict and avoid. Of course some dogs are perfectly trained to maintain a constant 50cm gap to their master’s rear wheel, but most aren’t from what I’ve seen.

    trivia

not if it’s your dog/mate’s dog that gets run over!

    +1 Neil853.

Coming from a devoted owner of 2 dogs that is saying something. I’d love to take my younger lab round the trails, but taking to Glentress of a weekend is asking for some knob end stormtrooper to run him over.

Went biking with my mate and his dog a few weeks ago at Glentress – at night mind you so no-one around really. Must say the dog was super well behaved and only once came near my wheels, but I was concious of it the whole time – I mean if I squashed his beloved spaniel he’d never forgive me.

On the hill – OK. Trail centre – no IMO.

According to this months “What Mountain Bike” (I know I know) electric bikes are all the rage especially in Europe and it is the way forward. Balls IMO.

In addition, all bikes are going to be 29″, so throw your 26ers in the bin now. Frankly a depressing read – “all your kit is crap – throw it all away and buy new 29er electric bikes”.

Fair play to Jim for coming on and posting. I’ve a 4 tear old venturi jacket which is an awesome piece of kit. Humvee shorts are a year old and going strong but two pairs or winter gloves ( can’t remember model names) are both at the bottom of the gear box. Poor bulky design and liners that come adrift from the outers. Hit and miss as others have said.

their track record with reliability on those wasn’t brilliant

I’ll +1 that. Had some RC35s like 15 years ago when they were the absolute dog’s chuff. They must’ve been back to the factory about 8 times. Bike eventually stolen so I took the insurance money and never went back.

HOWEVER I do have RC31s on my Litespeed single speed – they are great. Weigh next to nowt and stiff as hell.

Have a one handed splitting axe and a small woodmans axe from them – quality is second to none – it is a handmade work of art vs mass produced.
