I wouldn’t cycle to Glentress down the A703 if you gave me a golden pig*

(* great expression stolen from someone on this forum – I intend to use it at every opportunity).

Phone JVR property managers and have a good rant down the phone at them. Don’t know if it does any good but I’ve done it twice before. Once for crap driving and once for littering. Punter on the end of the phone promised to have a word both times. Who knows if it did any good but why ignore it and rant on here? Preaching to the converted!

    pushing against me

I applaud your restraint. If someone was pushing against me the temptation to give them a punch in the nose would be hard to resist no matter if it’s right or wrong.

EDIT – just read your post above. You’re right of course but damn it would be hard to resist.

it’s a bit like taking an uzi to a knife fight imo.

+1 to that – I used to ride mine round Glentress etc but it is the definition of overbiked there imo. Now reserved for Aonach Mor etc but taking it to Les Gets for 2 weeks where I suspect it will rock big time.

When I was on my own I was perfectly happy charging around on it and riding really well, but when I met up with a couple of friends on lighter bikes it rather changed my feelings.

My feelings exactly – which is why I went and bought a CC – it is for sure my favourite bike for 75% of my riding.

This changing the head angle thing. I run 120 forks on my CC but have always thought it was a little steep in the longest travel setting, but also thought that changing the travel setting did not affect the HA? But it turns out that if I run it on the second hole I’ll get a slacker head angle – do I have that right?

And a bit OT, but is the Helius AM the same? – I have the older, steeper 2009 frame.

    Thanks.

Saw them last Saturday in Glasgow SECC. Dragged along kicking and screaming by some mates as not really my cup of tea.

Actually quite enjoyed it. Some great tracks although it seemed to me to consist of moments of genius and the odd great riff punctuated by 20 mins of incoherent deafening noise. And I mean deafening – we were in the seats 2/3 of the way back and my ears were ringing till lunchtime Sunday.

I do have Tom Sawyer in the car now though. Top tune.

Highlight for me was Neil Peart’s drumming imo.

Guess I would score highly on my single speed Litespeed. Although I do have brakes and wear chinos and a barbour.

Also going to Les Gets for 2 weeks for the first time since 1997 so thanks for the tips – I’m sure the bike scene has changed a bit in 14 years!!

Other side of the coin – phoned a nameless bike shop here in Edinburgh. Spoke to staff. Discussed my requirements with them in detail. Very helpful. 15 min discussion. Took all my details. Promised to phone back and guess what? Nowt.

So sometimes even the phoning option is a waste of time. Any wonder people just shop at CRC.

Dazzling Boy – bridge crossing River Orchy? near the waterfalls?

Nope. It is the bridge over the Kinglass river at the bottom of Glen Kinglass at Ardmaddy. Beautiful spot and didn’t see a soul in 4 hours of riding.

compare that to Norway who have a national fund from oil money surplus that ensures they will remain rich. Scotland could do the same

Some may have read it already, but for a proper discussion of the subject, read Isles of the North which compares two outwardly similar countries with similar populations and natural resources and discusses why one is the richest country in the world and one isn’t, but possibly could have been/could be if only it was run like the other.

I’ll sign up to that! Only 2 guys in our office that don’t like dogs and they’re both [bannable content]

Nice dog strato. We have 2 rescue labs and both soft as butter. Its like they’re both permanently grateful.

Came off Wed night at Inners. Over the bars. Helmet severely bashed and lost skin off arm/shoulder.

Helmet certainly saved me from worse injury. No question IMO.

Oh I would sell the Klein – right now. To me!!

Seriously, I would keep it – they are getting rarer and were/are a landmark in the move to aluminium bikes. Even better that Gary Klein has now packed up shop and makes telescopes – you’re not likely to ever see a new Klein again*, whereas Ibis still around.

    * unless Trek re-liven it but given the direction they’ve gone with Gary Fisher that seems unlikely.

Good friend just spent 2.5 weeks in the new Edinburgh Royal Infirmary – actually getting out today.

He is absolutely raging about nursing standards. He has a catalogue of incidents that would make your blood boil. Sure, these nurses and other staff don’t have an easy job, but some of their work and attitude stinks. Some of the staff are fantastic, but his experience is that the medical care is first rate, but the nursing care and after care is crap.

I was surprised too but they know what they’re talking about in there. They (not surprisingly) didn’t hold exactly what I was looking for (Flak Jacket VR50 Transitions) in stock, so phoned Oakley direct and that was the chat.

Just been into McGrath’s in Edinburgh who are main Oakley dealers. They phoned Oakley there and then and were told that all transitions are now discontinued apart from prescription lenses. :(

All of North Uist and Berneray. We rode motorbikes on beaches (yeah I know) for days over there. And over to Harris too.

Train to Oban, ferry to Lochboisdale.
