most contracts seem to say they can relocate you within x miles without compensation, mine is 50 miles

Sorry no experience of the 2011 models, but I had a 2.2 diesel as a hire car a while back & loved it, so much so I ordered a new one a few weeks ago. Great cars.

my 12 year old daughter had a present from her nan for Christmas, after opening it she said “it smells like nannie” (a good thing BTW) during the mass clean up of wrapping paper etc she piped up & asked “what shall I do with nannies smelly box” oh, how we laughed 🙂

in one of the “on the buses” films you can see them driving past our old house in Birmingham, I can’t for the life of me remember which film it was though.

I nearly bought one of those bubble things earlier, did get the daughter a wheel writer though, it’s a bit like scalextric. I fitted it then spent the next hour pedalling my backside off showing her how it works 🙂

I must admit I like it, read the books a few years ago & have seen the films so far, but I just enjoy a film for what it is, a bit of mindless escapism.

aaaaaah, well kept secret 🙂 there’s only 10 vans on there & they aren’t allowed anymore, I’ve been trying to get a friend on for a while & can’t

mine was a pennine pathfinder, it only took 10 minutes to set up & was always cosy, you get charged the same as a caravan wherever you go, the ballache for me was having to leave site at 10am & then loosing the day as I wouldn’t like to leave the camper hooked up & go wandering off, so it was straight home. As well as having to open it out to air if happened to be raining when you packed up. If Europe has your fancy then a campervan is the way forward IMO, loads of cheap & free camping on the continent.

What swung it for me was that I found a 10 day all inclusive holiday, with flights & everything for £80 more than it would have cost me drive & camp for 7 nights.

We bought a caravan & sited it on a very basic site about 30 mins from cyb for the same cost as storing it for the year, pull up, put the kettle on & we’re settled in. We have a campervan too that is used to fulfil the wanderlust, we go to France, Spain, Portugal regularly in that & only ever pay for fuel, ferries & food, not paid for a site in a long time, here or abroad.

in my experience Eurocamp everytime. The difference in price wasn’t worth my while dragging my folding camper along. It used to be a cheap way of holidaying, but not anymore, all IMO obviously.

    Keep them in the house,

my garage door (that leads onto the road) is never used & has bolts going through the bottom & sides of the door into the floor & walls, so it couldn’t be opened, then the bikes were secured to the floor with a ground anchor & motorbike chain I always put the bikes away going through the house into the garage. It still got broken into (through the asbestos roof) the ground anchor was dug out of the floor & the garage door was cut open from inside, using my own bloody tools, all during the day & no one heard a thing, all this for a poxy old boardman & rockhopper.

pull up, kettle on & you’re ready to relax

A bit like having a campervan then *smug*

Did the campervan thing too, loved it, free holidays all over Spain & the UK 😀 we will going back to it in a couple of years when the youngest is at uni

Sounds like you want a folding camper, not a trailer tent, mine used to take me around 30 mins to set up on my own, the better ones have the advantage of having hot/cold water, shower, loo etc & you can even leave the beds made up, so just fold it out & you’re almost ready.

I went from a seasonal pitch with a caravan to the folding camper & hated it, if the canvas is wet when you pack up you have to open it all out again when you get home until it’s dry, having to leave site around 10- 11 am on leaving day & because you’re towing it’s not practical to spend the last day exploring the area or doing anything, so it’s a case of hitching up & going home in the morning wasting the last day.

We went back to a seasonal pitch & just move the van to where ever we fancy going after a year or stay where we are if it’s a nice place, pull up, kettle on & you’re ready to relax. It might be just because we went from being on a permanent pitch to towing but the hassle just made me not want to bother going away for a weekend & the folding camper spent most of it’s 18 months with us on the driveway doing nothing, now I’m away most weekends again & quite often go for a few days during the week when I’m “working from home” 🙂

We’ve even taken the van off the seasonal pitch for a week or two when we fancy a change & then put it back afterwards.

if it’s the type with the round bubble part on top, just cut the top off & you can release the security pin from inside, or so I was told once, ‘onest guv

not much help, but I regularly do the route from Rhyl to Llandudno with my daughter, just have to keep your eyes open for dog walkers with those long leads that extend for miles & the mess that comes with irresponsible dog owners.

It’s a great ride with a lot of cracking views, there’s a lovely pub for a pint & cake just past Pensarn & a little further on an unused slipway into the sea which is perfect for a colling paddle (or a full on soaking last week when it was silly hot 😀 )

we’re doing the Angelsey end next time we’re there in a few weeks (Daughters only 10 btw)

the lower straps normally go onto the metal backing of the bumper or anything solid behind the bumper, I’ve used the towing eye in the past, the bike shouldn’t touch the car at all, if you’re worried, can you remove the pedals?

I had a Forme element, then a Stag about 2 years ago, got to say they really surprised me in a good way, my brother has the stag now & it’s still going strong, I never had a reason to question the warranty so I can’t comment on that, but I wouldn’t hesitate about buying another one.

I go on my motorbike, throw a tent & stuff on the back & go, end up wherever I am, never did it in the campervan though, I really wanted to but the opportunity never came.

IMO it’s one of life’s little luxuries, speak to no one, just drop off the grid for a bit, I take my phone but everyone knows not to call unless it’s a massive emergency, I’m planning on touring Europe next year some time & again just going wherever I want, probably navigate following the sun & weather forecasts 😀 with absolutely no route in mind, decide whether to turn left or right once I’ve got off the ferry.

Contact the police, there is no downside in doing so

have you been in this position then? I told the police, sod all got done, even after seeing the officer dealing with it & being told a warrant to search has been granted & calling every couple of hours, told them where it was, when the thief was going to be home etc, then last week the brakes from my bike surfaced on ebay, informed them again, then a week later got an email from them saying “they may have been sold several times & the seller may not know they’re stolen, so no action was taken”

so my vote is to just go round & take it back, be aware though the person selling it will have your address etc from ebay if you win the auction.

Lloyds Banking Group to name & shame.

We can park ours in the secure basement behind the security guards in our building, just goes to show how things differ from one building to another.

I’d imagine m5-m6 should be OK on a Sunday morning even with the tunnels closed, or even skirt around to the a34 & up to the m6 that way? I’ve been scheduled to work in Town over the summer holidays for some strange reason, I’m really not looking forward to that, even the rat runs will be hectic at rush hour

personally I went straight for the DAS, 125’s are very frustrating (to me anyway) the way I looked at it was, I had enough road experience already, in a car & a bicycle, so didn’t need the “road time” & the motorbike would only go as fast as I made it go, so nothing to worry about there. I’m still alive over a decade later, so it worked for me.

I couldn’t commute on a geared 125, but on a 125 rev & go (if such a thing exists) I think I’d be OK, but my commute does include the centre of Birmingham in rush hour.

or if you’re not just commuting, but using it for pleasure too, go up to 400/600cc my father in law made the mistake of buying a new 125 to commute, then sold it once he realised he couldn’t really use it for much more than getting to work & bought a 600, he never uses his car now.

We’re at a bit of an impasse though; she doesn’t want to pay full price and I don’t want to settle for less. Neither of us really have a clue how to proceed.

I’m sorry, but it needs to go to the lawyers now, it doesn’t really matter if she does or doesn’t want to pay full price, she needs to put things back as they were before the accident, if I, or any reasonable person for that matter, hit, knocked someone off or damaged someone else’s property I’d be doing my upmost to put things right, not trying to wriggle out of paying a few pounds, things could have been a lot worse after all.

I think I’d try once more, out of courtesy saying she has x amount of days to pay x amount or you’ll be going through the insurance/small claims, it seems to me as if you’ve been more than reasonable enough so far, a lot more reasonable than I’d have been.

I’m using a T420 at the moment, as has been said more than powerful enough for home use, quite dated looks wise & very bulky, but bullet proof. Much better quality than equivalent machines I’ve used. It just feels right

In my experience the police aren’t helpful at all even when you give them the name & address of the person who has your bike & then even tell them what time the thief person will be at home with the bike.

This is a good site for looking for searching for your bike across several sites.[/url]

I’m pretty sure Altruism212 is a user here, I’ve seen the famous bike against a tree pic in the classified, pics are always in the same place on gumtree too, he bought a bike I’d arranged to buy, but was able to get there 20 mins before I could, so the seller sold it him, which is understandable, but it was back on gumtree the next day with a £125 mark up, not that I’m bitter or anything 😀

Thanks all, to be honest it’s more of a trial run for our camper than anything else, we only live 30 minutes from Stratford, but it’s a lovely place for a shakedown. The wife is a bit worried about cycling through anywhere to populated as she hasn’t ridden in 15 or so years, hence asking about access from the race course, got the butterfly farm on Saturday afternoon, well my wife & daughter have, I’ve got a pint or two on the riverside planned 🙂

Sounds very good. Is the van a motor caravan on the V5 or still a panel van?
