Admitted to not getting a card. I appear to have got away with it.

You only think you’ve got away with it, one day maybe in 20 years you’ll find out you didn’t 🙂

Use the insurance route they settle and chase the neighbours

Do the insurance company actually do this though or do they just pay out & not chase it up?

Just popped round again, had a chat & gave them till the end of the month to sort it out, if nothing by then I’ll just go to small claims court, I really don’t want to go through my insurance after the hassle we’ve had getting covered since the thefts & I’d imagine the insurance will get jacked up again if I make a claim so I’d lose out there as well. Besides I can’t find the “safe place” I’ve put the insurance documents 🙂

Part of me wants to take them to court after all the grief we’ve had from them in the past & watch them try to wriggle out of it by saying the usual “it wasn’t us, don’t know what you’re on about” which has been there get out for damaged fences, paint on new gates & fked garage roof.

Does anyone know if I’d name the person renting the house from the council or the adult son who owns the stuff? I’d imagine the tenant is responsible for whatever is on there property.

But to put things in perspective I popped round to my elderly neighbour on the other side to let her know we were having some work done & found she’d locked herself in the small porch & had been there for 4 hours, much pushing & shoving of my youngest daughter through a small window & we were able to open the door, it could have ended up much worse as her son wasn’t coming till Sunday.

I’ll have a chat with my insurers when I get home, but as the neighbours have no insurance & the damage was to a car I think it might become difficult, we also had a nightmare trying to find decent insurance last year as we had two bikes stolen within a short time of each other & they were included in the house insurance cover.

Why can’t people just do the right thing? It’s beyond me.

    John,

They’ve moved it now 🙂 I really don’t care about it showing as a dispute, they’ve damaged plenty of things in the past but we’ve had no proof.

    Mike:
I don’t think the house insurance will do anything, it was my untaxed/uninsured summer car that was damaged, the neighbours have already told me they have no insurance

The Blue Lake, via an adventure exploring the old quarry, tunnel, etc looks like giants have been building up there

Anymore info on this, I’ve never heard of it & go that way quite a lot, it looks like something I need to do 🙂

Done it plenty of times, I normally find a quiet, local, country pub, tuck the van away in a corner out of everyone’s way & have a quiet word with the manager explaining I’m having a meal & drink & will be away first thing in the morning.

you’ll only need the garage for a week at most if your using rustoleum, all the prep work can be done outside then just use the garage for the actual painting, if you do the prep work inside you’ll spend days cleaning up the dust before painting. Go for it, if you take your time it’ll turn out great.

+1 on your “mate” charging £600 to rent his garage??? what’s that about?

must agree I think it’s overpriced, we recently sold a 51 plate boxer self built conversion, hot/cold water, shower, toilet heating etc a very well done conversion & it only went for 3k. You can’t really price it in the same range as a professional build like a romahome.

Funnily enough when you placed the ad I showed my wife & said once our youngest has flown the nest that’s the type of thing I’ll be building.

I think there is a huge difference between mountain bikers & someone riding a mountain bike, there are many tools round here that ride mountain bikes, they wouldn’t think twice about shoving & abusing someone, that doesn’t make them mountain bikers, it all goes back to tarring everyone with the same brush.

Can the garage actually tax it for you now with the new rules? I didn’t think they could.

Insurance choice for me, ÂŁ250 in a dodgy area of Birmingham on my converted Ducato, had three months to do the conversion & get it registered as a motor caravan with DVLA, which was so much easier than most people I spoke to made out.

I’ve been approached by people on Gumtree wanting me to send my bike to them, I always say no, if I wanted the hassle of posting a bike I’d have sold it on ebay, I wouldn’t entertain the idea of sending it anywhere other than the paypal address, if they’re so friendly they can meet up, have a coffee & pick the bike up when person A hands the money over to person B to pay for the paypal transaction.

A big thanks to all you guys for the advice I have had a letter draw up by a lawyer. We will see what happens.
The police don’t want to get involved they are saying its a civil matter now.

Surely it’s a police matter now cash converters have stolen your bike & refuse to hand it back to its rightful owner, they don’t legally own the bike you do, so how can they refuse to return?

my last couple of cars have been white, new one will be black because it’s a no cost, option unlike white now it’s cool. I bought white because: it was cheaper, “looks” cleaner for longer & hides the scratches better.

nope, no primer a couple of coats of white, or some off white with a posh name Mrs Dazz insisted she needed for the lounge & was left over when we’d finished decorating, I only did it to use the paint up if I’m honest but it makes a massive difference when done.

In our last place I sprayed the garage walls with emulsion using one of those cheap electric sprayers, it worked great.

I just used normal household emulsion, it’s held up fine for about 3 years.

I used to have a boss who was very pragmatic and took the view that as long as the work got done and we were contactable (email & phone) during work hours he didn’t care where we were. He treated us like grown-ups. I used to WFH about one day a fortnight if I felt like it. It broke the week up nicely.

He was replaced by another boss who took the complete opposite approach – we MUST be in the office and we MUST ask his permission in advance for absolutely everything. Bizarrely, he was based in a different office to the rest of us so he never had any idea where we were or what we were doing anyway. He was a massive ****. I left.

So clearly the key is to have a decent boss.

Definitely this, my last boss was like the former & the new boss is like the latter, more people have left/been off long term sick in the last 6 months, than did during the previous 8 years & moral is so low no one really gives a t0ss about doing the job right, just bums on seats now.

The rear boot lock is rattling in ours, just a slight inconvenience and not worth the mental money they quoted for replacement.

The dealership fixed my lock by wrapping the part attached to the car in the boot with electrical tape to “thicken it up” a bit

I can’t get a bike in the back with both wheels attached. Honestly I hate mine so much when I get home from work (it’s a company car) it’s just parked up & I use my Volvo, even though fuel, repairs etc don’t cost me a penny in the kumquat I’d rather pay to use my own car.

Myself & 2 colleagues have these, 60 plate 1.5d ntec models, all have had new clutches around 105k, £2500 a time as they all needed flywheels, the interior build quality is terrible hasn’t lasted well at all, the boot is tiny for the size of the car, fuel economy for me is awful, at best 45mpg on very long runs, if I travel the 6 miles into Birmingham city centre I get about 25. It’s comfy though & hasn’t broken down once, BUT there is no way anyone could pay me enough to have another one. I literally hate it beyond words, roll on new car March 🙂

Check for a juddery clutch on pull away, listen for a clunk from the back when going over bumps they go through suspension bushes regularly & make sure the bootlid doesn’t rattle when driving

I worked my way up to a senior role because I thought that’s what I wanted, within 12 months I hated the role, people, company etc, I couldn’t relax people who had my phone number would call me day or night no matter what the time. When a role came up further down the chain I jumped at it & effectively demoted myself. It was the perfect solution for me, I kept my pension & favourable T&C’s. I still don’t “love” going to work like some people seem to, for me it’s a means to an end, but I’m much happier & have a much better life for it. The plan now is to be mortgage free ASAP, sell the house & bugger off in my camper to follow the sun round Europe.

Some people seem to thrive on work & the rat race, others just don’t, life is for living & enjoying not working day in day out till you finally drop down.
