aye the buggas are out in force…I was doing the Kirroughtree black a few weeks ago and I had a puncture up in the woods on the “Black Craigs” section… I was working away changing the inner tube when I looked up and it was a like a scene from John Carpenter’s “The Fog” coming at me through the trees…. I have never swapped out an inner tube so fast in my bloody life… 😀

Last weekend was bad as well, I was glad I had a midge net while I was marshalling at the NPS at Kirroughtree…

aye, My Son has been there 3 times before, he didn’t know anything about MTB (lazing and boozing are his pasttimes…LOL), he has had no hassles there at all.
Have googled it and know that it is hilly, will do a bit more research into it before I go…

was bad enough biking round Kirroughtree red/black last week in 27 degree sunshine 😕

thanks to all who have replied to my post…. much appreciated folks.. 8)

Trek Session 10 (AKA The Beast) , took it for a test ride and everything felt right with the bike… 50lbs of pure downhill Tractor… loving it to bits.. spent a few hundred quid on parts replacement… but for what it cost in total It was a bargain, cam with Marzocchi shivers DC forks.

I bought my spokes from here.. http://www.billys.co.uk/english/productresults.php?dept=5015&group=U I wasn’t worried about weight of the spokes and just plumped for stainless one… 64 spokes + nipples cost me £22 posted..!!

I use more than one spoke calculator , I then take the average spoke length.

also make sure you have a dishing tool as this can make things more accurate when tensioning the spokes

I always use 3 different calculators, DT SWISS, Wheelpro and Edd
    http://lenni.info/edd/
I then take the average from them….

DB/Mabie and Kirrie car parks are £2 per day… Drumlanrig car park charges are a bit hit and miss.. some attendants charge you £5 per car others charge £5 per head!!
To me the trails at Mabie and uppy downy with a few good sections…Dalbeattie has chicken runs for the techy sections, be mindfull at “Moyles Magic” as that can catch out the unwary, as you will come over a rocky section and then you are full pelt down a steep rocky section..

Kirrie is fun and has chicken runs round the black sections…you will all have a blast at all the trails… have fun and enjoy yourselves… 8)

I use the thule 561 for my Giant Reign with 20mm maxle.. you can purchase a seperate 15mm tubing for smaller through axle bikes… both would use the QR off the forks to secure the bike… the 561 does come with a standard fork mount QR also…
