Ta. Yeah, a classic. It does seem weird how there’s no pain, but I can feel it pull very slightly when doing the slow leg raises.

Comes on here pretending to have an open mind about it just so he can post a link to this garbage, his simple mind is already made up. Jog on Alex, you fool!

It’s not too bad to be fair, Surrey is 45 minutes, QECP about the same, good off piste there. Then there’s Rogate, Stanmer, Friston etc not too far away.

95% of my riding is from the door though, 100m and I’m off road

Growing up here I never thought I’d say this but Worthing. On ebikes can get to the Steyning and Chanctonbury trails in 20 minutes and they are properly mint, too much for a lot of people though. Which is also something that isn’t usually associated with the South Downs. Mind you, with the current weather you have to clear them every second ride.

Worthing itself has the usual crappy high street but nice seafront and some good bars and restaurants. Good train links to Brighton and London.

@el_boufadour can back me up about the trails although probably shouldn’t because it’s a secret!

Nothing of use to add, other than my sister did Camp America and loved it. Decades ago though.

Just wanted to say you sound like top parents!

I’ve tried Putoline, Squirt, Smoove, Peatys, Muc Off, Viking, Rock and Roll, Finish Line, etc etc, for me they all have their downsides, particularly the price these days but also some of them leaving rust after one wet ride. The Weldtite is cheap enough to reapply after every wash if required, doesn’t leave gunk or turn everything black. Just ordered 400ml for £13 off Amazon, might go for 5l for £40 next time. Cheers for the reminder @chakaping!

I got one when they were £20, mainly because the nose of my Scoop was catching the crotch of my trousers occasionally. Really comfy, seem very well made, I like the looks and they don’t snag me trews! Wish I’d bought three of them

Thought I’d add that I weighed the big rings and both are 115g. So they look the same, weigh the same, but defo not the same……

@sillyoldman – I’m not sure why you’re so affronted that I’m suspicious of Shimano, especially as they have known of these failures for a number of years and decided to do sod all about it until now.

However, I’m sure that the head honchos are weeping into their sake right now because some guy on the internet doubts they are being transparent about this. So now I feel just awful.

I’m just going on what I can physically see in front of me, I just thought others might be interested as I have both sets of rings. I’m not all that interested in continuing this circular conversation to be honest, thanks for your input though.

That is how it’s been sold, yes. However, I have both brand new sets of rings in hand and I don’t believe there is any physical difference between them other than one being marked 11 and the other 12 speed. If there is it can only be in the width. I’d be happy to be proved wrong though.

I’ll see if I can post photos later

@sillyoldman agreed that they are under no obligation to offer a 12 speed alternative, I just thought there was no harm in asking. And yes no doubt there are differences between the older 11 speed groupset rings and the newer 12 speed, the designs have changed. What I’m saying is that I don’t believe Shimano have produced new 11 speed rings to fit 12 speed cranks, I think they’ve just re-stamped the 12 speed cranks and rings

They wouldn’t though, this is a warranty replacement so therefore has to be like for like in terms of compatibility. Mine were 6800 11 speed, despite asking the LBS to request a new 12 speed chainset from Madison, I got the hybrid warranty replacement

I got a set of the Ultegra RC-08 12 speed cranks with supposed 11 speed rings. As my new bike is 12 speed and wanting it all to work exactly as it should I ordered a set of brand new 12 speed rings taken off a new bike. I’d put money on the 11 speed and 12 speed rings being exactly the same, they are physically identical. I only have a cheap set of  digital verniers but can’t measure any width difference either. I suspect Shimano have done this to save a few quid and because they can’t admit that the rings are cross compatible between different speed groupset, because Shimano.

Annoying that I’ve bought new rings for no reason as far as I can tell

Since my brick garage got broken into and all my bikes nicked, the replacements are in an Asgard, locked together with a motorbike chain and a a Ring camera watching over, amongst other things. The ebike battery isn’t removable so I have wired in a double socket to run the charger and a dehumidifier on low, particularly handy if you’re putting washed bikes away. Early days but works well so far

Prompted me to phone the LBS and they said Madison have sent a replacement chainset to them, he didn’t know what it was but I’m guessing it will be R8000 11 speed based on post above. @escrs – did you get a chainset complete with rings?

I had asked for a new 12s chainset, very much doubt I’ll get one.

I’m with Avivaplus and they were brilliant when my ebike got nicked along with my road bike and some other things a few months back. All under unlimited contents from a detached garage. You need to check though as I think they might have changed it to max 2.5k from a garage

@sharkattack – it isn’t hard to ride, it’s great in the skatepark but on rougher jump trails and pump tracks I just find it too harsh. Also want more stability.

It’s a WTP Audio with higher bars, lovely thing but this way I still get to ride it

I have run a couple of SG Betty softs on the back of my ebike, I like them but do find they wear pretty quickly. the ebike does batter rears though.

Found a DHR2 DD MaxxTerra (bloody hen’s teeth) for £45 on a German site, only a few rides in but very good so far. I’ve had them before though so a known quantity

Tempted by the Contis next. Might even be matching then – my new bike has the DHR on the back and a Mary on the front. Even worse it’s X2 rear and Zebs on the front, the horror!

Mine failed shop inspection about 2 months ago and were returned to Madison. Not a dicky bird since. Will chase the shop tomorrow but not impressed.

Yeah I was tempted by the green but was hoping this year’s would drop once last year’s sold out. Noticed that on the headset and clamp, ta. Did it come with a chainstay guard as well? Suppose that’s not really needed on a SS though

Have everything I need to build it up although might tweak a few colours.

Ordered a Nukeproof Solum frame last night with PP pay in 3 so above had me worried, had despatch confirmation just now though. Fingers crossed it turns up and undamaged!

Edit, tracking says advised, not actually shipped yet. Still, progress!

Anyone hear anything further on this? Mine failed inspection at the LBS weeks back, they have gone to Madison for further inspection but no word since. LBS also says Madison don’t have any of the 12 speed cranksets with 11 speed rings in any case. Considering how many years this has been known about and therefore should have been prepared for it’s being pretty shoddily dealt with IMO. I have requested a 12 speed Ultegra chainset as a replacement as that’s what my new bike has and presumably they have stock, no word though.

    Below is from Gov.uk recall notice;

    “Hazard
The product presents a risk of injuries as it has been identified that the outer cover of the crank arm may start to separate from the main crank arm body, posing potential fall and injury hazards to consumers.

The affected products do not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.

    Corrective action
    Modification programme.

Shimano Europe has established an inspection and replacement programme. If a crank arm fails inspection, Shimano Europe will provide a replacement of equal or greater value than the previous crank arm, at Shimano Europe’s sole expense.”

Highlighted statement makes me wonder how they can get away with not just doing a blanket recall, without inspections. I guess “affected” is the key word. Reflects really badly on a company the size of Shimano, IMO

So I paid 395€ for the forks and 58€ for an airspring. That converted to £413 plus a £12 transaction fee. I paid £100 VAT and duty via Parcelforce. You’ll have to do your own calcs but yep, they’ve gone up a bit. Don’t know about returns.

Yeah they’re OEM, came with a couple of tokens and that’s about it. Select Plus aren’t available aftermarket so most likely from a bike parts strip. I think the price has gone up though, I’m sure they were just under 400 euros when I ordered, I’ll check

Also worth noting they have the oversized 62mm CSU, which is what I wanted, and the QR Maxle. I also ordered a 160mm airspring for a good price.

Like I said, about £470 all in including credit card foreign transaction fee
