StuF, did you have to create an Amazon Family account for your wife and kids? I know there is a workaround, but it seems overly complicated and a faff, when Amazon and Apple Music Family accounts just work.

I am sure Spotify could similarly work in this manner, if Spotify and Amazon wanted them to.

What you cannot do with a regular Spotify account is stream different music to different speakers. You’d need a family account for that.

You’d think that Cougar, but no. Not even Spotify Family allows you to do this. If you have separate Amazon accounts or Amazon Family members, technically you can just about get there I believe. Depends on the age of your kids and if you are happy creating an Amazon account for them. Apple Music Family or Amazon Music Family just work.

You can link devices but if you play something on your phone on the train, that will determine what someone at home will get tp listen to as Kimber states.

I use Apple Music Family the same as franksinatra, so my kids can independently play the music they want on their echo dot’s and I can play mine. This works flawlessly with both Apple Music Family and Amazon Music Unlimited, but not Spotify Family. There are elaborate workarounds available apparently, but clearly Spotify or Amazon do not want to support this. If the feature was available in Spotify, I would return.

A baby. She’s still going strong some 6 and half years later.

Promised ourselves a European weekend away at some point as Mrs G and I have both crossed the 40’s!

Slightly off topic, but I use amazon music unlimited for family streaming as understandably, it is designed to integrate with echos easily and conveniently. If your kids want to play their own music via an echo dot or equivalent, the separate accounts and profiles required to make spotify work was too much effort for me. A shame as I really like Spotify, and will look again if they can resolve this or Amazon enable them to resolve it (which I suspect is the case).

I am sure I have the explicit filter set, but it did not stop me enjoying Rage Against the Machine yesterday.

Own up, can remember someone on here previously saying they once received a “fart in a jar”, from their brother. Still makes me laugh.

How was the Maxell box set @Boardinbob? One for the Netflix recommendations thread?

Johdoh, flip it on its head. Should the staff member not be thinking, “I have declined a free work trip. Am I being unreasonable to ask for a holiday when everyone is travelling”?

My answer would be yes and would not be so cheeky asking my boss such a question.

None of our business, but I suspect a suitable reason for calling off would of course be acceptable? Or even saying no thanks when first approached, but not after agreeing, declining and then asking for a day off.

Culzean castle is fantastic btw. We have been twice now, (our kids 3x times), and it is a great day out. Might keep NTS running for another year and the swap to Historic Scotland for a year.

She is my MP. I have voted for her before and not voted for her, and will have some thinking to do at the next (coming sooner rather than later) election.

Better a Tory coalition than a Tory majority or one enabled by the DUP, but I think the Lib Dems received an overlong and unfair kicking as if no other party ever failed on election promises and manifesto commitments. Maybe we just expect the Tories and Labour to do that, so it hurt more when Nick did it. Coalition meant compromise and I suspect they realise now that they compromised too much on the wrong things.

This thread would suggest that Labour has always placed principles over a taste for ministerial cars or seats in the House of Lords, but I would not be too sure about that.

Fabulous watching Alaphillipe tear up the race. Froome’s absence definitely made for more open racing, but think it equally demonstrates his strength and tenacity. I am sure he will be back next year and G will need to look at the Vuelta or Giro for his next Grand Tours.

I had never seen a Toy Story movie in the cinema before, s it was fantastic to share the experience as a family on Sunday watching Toy Story 4. My kids, especially my 5 year old girl, just loves Toy Story so it was a little bit dusty in cineworld screen 11 on Sunday, for my wife and I. A brilliant movie and how great to be able to share a cinema experience like that with your kids. But I would stress, it is not just a kids film. There were a few adults sans kids enjoying the movie too, and quite right.

Ordered 3x pairs of 5p socks, oh and a London Road SL.

    Using the savings wisely.

As part of the Planet X love in, maybe Brant or someone else can tell what differences I’d notice between the standard and SL versions of the London Road.

At 5’7″ I am between sizes for Small and Medium. Mainly be used for commuting and a bit of gravel, so would the medium be a better option?

Promise to buy some 5p socks too.

    Thanks for the responses.

Anywhere but the Britannia Airport Hotel would be my advice.

Appears to be a number of Britannia Hotels and whilst cheap, the reviews seem to suggest why.

I will have bags and kids and I am driving down from Glasgow, so whilst this should be a relatively quick and easy journey, I have been caught up in road works before on the M6, so would like some error of margin. I would do this if it were just me, but hopefully will have slightly less grumpy kids if they have had a semi decent sleep (not in the car).

I have been twice with a 5 year old and 18 month year old, and was back last year when my girls were 4 and 7. They loved it, I loved it with them and thoroughly enjoyed it myself. It can be super busy, but never once thought I would lose my kids.

We have done Mon – Fri, which worked really well as that gave us 3 days in the park with some bonus time on the Monday and Friday. Any more than that, would be too much I would suggest.

Try and visit during the holidays if you can. We have stayed at Disney Hotels which are handy for the park obviously and give you magic hours. We paid a little more last time for a room upgrade, but found it good value for what we paid i.e. meal plans and private breakfast room.

It is Disney, it is expensive so bring snacks and water and yes it is busy, but I have some fantastic memories from my visits and intend to go again at some point.

@athgay, I stand corrected and just showing my bias / ignorance.

The Port and Greenock are notably absent in this thread! Great sea and mountain views of course, and handy for Glasgow airport, Argyll, Millport and Bute ferries and more frequent cruise liners!

I would echo matt_oab and the Stirling guys shout for their respective areas, and would be looking there if I were in your shoes.

Peebles seems to be a nice place, and I have not been for a few years but would I choose to live there if I had growing kids? I am sure they would love it, but Dunblane/BoA/Stirling/Falkirk have great services, facilities and connections, with local riding nearby.

I live in North Glasgow suburbia, Lenzie, so the road / rail connections are great but less so for trail riding on your doorstep. Albeit Lennox forest and Mugdock are 15 mins away and the road riding is great.

Thanks for the thoughts and opinions folks. I see it is still sitting at £650 rrp at the moment, so will heed the advice and wait for a flash sale that Halfords often have. I will get a British Cycling discount on it too, so happy to wait.

I REALLY don’t like Chris Hawkins

Each to their own, I think the Hawk is great. I like Keaveney too and suspect at lot of effort goes into making a show sound quite shambolic and half arsed.

Thanks for the input and suggestions so far.  A change of tyres seems to be the quickest and smartest move first.  I have heard different reports on CX specific tires so thinking rocket rons, racing ralphs or even nobby nics for some grip in the wet.

I ride clipped in the road so have no qualms about riding spd’s off road.  I do find my sombrios very grippy however.  Not full on Five:10 grip, but still have to lift your foot to shift the position.

I am sure more gears would help too, but if I was looking to replacing a groupset I think I would just get a CX bike in the future.  Just looking to make some reasonable easy changes to stay in check.

@TPBiker, if you are averaging 16.5, you should be pretty comfortable.  As singletrackmind points out though, it is how you learn to use and manage your energy / effort whilst on group rides that matters.  At least, that was my experience.

I thought I was fit coming from an mtb / spin class / turbo background, but my first club rides were a real step up.  Roadies do not stop, not even in the slower groups.  The average speed may drop, but it is still a consistent effort that is required and that can take some adjustment and getting used to (depending on your experiences).

Passat, Mondeo and Superb / Octavia’s were all on my short list but very happy with my Toyota Avensis Estate.  Or Sports Tourer in Toyota speak!

Good level of kit, loads of space and long warranty nudged it to the top of my list. 60:40 rear split.

Excuse the thread resurrection, but I have been looking at posts on Exercise Induced Asthma from the last 10 years and this appears to be the most recent.  I am off to the GP tomorrow to explore potential exercise induced asthma.  I seem to present a lot of the symptoms.

I do not have asthma, but a few years ago and more recently on my last two group road rides, I have just exploded mid ride.  Not a bonk, as my fuelling and hydration were ok.  One minute I was going well, no problems and then just felt all sense of power fade from my body and legs.  So ended up spat out the back and ended up crawling home.  There was no wheezing or climbing at the time, and not really struggling for breath.  What I can remember and find hard to describe, was an erratic or sharp intake of breath (if there is an equivalent of something going down the wrong hole, like that) which preceded the episodes.

I am reasonably fit but I am no whippet or thoroughbred but annoying to suddenly lose all power and struggle when I know I can perform better.  I manage fine in the gym or on solo rides, but the group rides is where it has struck.  A few years ago, I went to the docs and had bloods done thinking it was maybe viral, but they returned clear.  I have managed since then by fuelling up better but it is only in the last two weeks this has reoccurred.

I do get mild hay fever but normally does not affect me other than the odd sneeze first thing.  Don’t appear to be too bad breathing in the winter too.

So, if this checks out can I expect Ventolin or similar being prescribed, and does it really work?

Was at the track on Friday.  Great seeing team riders riding out to the veldrome in their national kit and riding on aero wheels.  A good few rainbow journeys “commuting” too!

I am not quite on the TT route, but a few grumbling sounds about it from some locals.  A lot of cancelled doctors appointments or days lost wages seem to occur for an event publicised over a year ago!  There are a couple of villages effectively blocked off and an entire Glasgow suburb to be honest, but I think there has been a lot of consultancy going on.  Don’t let that get in the way of the moaners however, when world class sport passes their  doorsteps.  A vocal minority I hope.

FWIW, I have a 2016 TCR Advanced 1, so presumably a lesser grade of carbon than a Pro frame.  Had no issues on longer rides and know of plenty people who ride TCR’s over greater distances, when on paper, you may think the Defy would be more comfortable.

So you have made a great choice.

KSC would be my stipulation for going to Florida and certainly hope and plan to go.

Going back to the title of the thread and it is a related thread hijack,  I am off to DLP next week.  I have reservations for Café Mickey and despite being on a half-board plan, I have to pay a supplement.  I did not quite realise that supplement would be about 100 euros!  Is it worth it?  I suspect the food is not great shakes, but is it worth the extra for my girls to meet some characters and it is time saved on trying to meet them elsewhere in the park?

I see the Dibb is a great source for DLP too, thanks.

Sounds like it could be iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS), but best check with a physio if it is causing serious bother. I have suffered from it in the past and still get occasional flare ups when I don’t stretch regularly enough.

I thought it was a pain in my knee, but it was the IT Bands tightening and pulling and the pain is felt in the knees.  Google ITBS, but seek professional advice as knees are pretty complex. Foam rollers and regularly stretching, plus work on your glutes and hip flexors will all help, providing it is ITBS,

There is a mass of content online be it cycling or running induced ITBS, and there are loads of references to incorrect saddle height and cleat positions which are all very valid and worth checking to help alleviate the pain.  However, if that was your first club road ride, well done but the consistency of effort will have an impact on you also.  As I discovered (and still discover), there is bike fit and then there is being road fit, with none of the regularly breathers you get on the mtb.

Take care of your legs and your body and club will help with the rest! :)

<span style=”color: #444444; font-size: 12px;”>Its a great documentary.</span><br style=”color: #444444; font-size: 12px;” /><span style=”color: #444444; font-size: 12px;”>In some ways i was wishing the Grigory story hadn’t unfolded in front of him (Bryan Fogel)…i was really interested in the effect the EPO etc was having and how much he would improve.</span>

Although overshadowed by the greater news story, IIRC, Fogel found that whilst EPO helped his training, it did not provide any tangible improvement to his performance in the race, especially when compared to his performance the previous year.  In fact, I think Fogel performed worse following his experiment.

It would have been interesting to have seen the affects of individual physiology explored more, but the drama and shock of the story that exploded upon them is compelling viewing.  So of course the narrative of the film changes as it follows the story.

Is the Dot speaker reasonably ok? I have a Bluetooth sound-bar and a mini Bluetooth speaker already, so is it just a bigger speaker that the echo brings to the mix?

Can you make spotify a default, or do you have to tell it to play from spotify each time?

I just can’t understand this whole label thing when there are perfectly good equivalents for less money.

I agree, but it is the margins of these equivalents I am trying to gauge in this thread. Maybe “label”, was the wrong word to use, I am not looking to buy a designer boiler. More just understand how much, (well I know £500*), that the WB reputation is worth in real terms.

*This is total install works etc, so mot just the cost of the boiler alone.

Many thanks for the input, I shall check the specs and make a decision on that, other than, “they are very good”. I don’t mind paying a premium price where the label is continuously deserved and earned.

He is and can be a truly epic knob, but he is “our” truly epic knob. Electrifying live.

For all that I am a fan, I had no interest in Moz’s autobiography. Johnny Marr’s autobiography “Set the Boy Free”, is a great read however.

It is on the Sky box, so looking forward to watching it tonight. Ken Burn’s Civil War documentary was fantastic too, and worth watching if it is still available.
