Ah, I presume the hose comment was a reference to the Merlin thread, will need to have a read through it 🙂

Not sure if you were joking about the hose but it’s a full system, assembled and bled etc with 1000/1700 length hoses.

Hey, ordered a pair of slx brakes from them on Tuesday and they were in my hands around 24 hours later. That was with free delivery too so I was pretty impressed. 112 delivered for the pair of slx with the ice tech pads. Should do a psa for them actually. It’s only one experience but I think they did really well. Cheers

the reduced weight should be a bonus, the previous versions were a bit weighty.

i have the same problem mate and i think its a combination of all three. hamstrings are chronically short, core is weak and 100mm stem are all factors. of course i started by changing the stem 🙂

hi, this thread has moved on since i was last on and lots of useful advice from the STW hive as always. A couple of quick questions if i may:

In the absence of a good LBS* what online shops would you recommend? I am looking at brewuk for purchasing my kit (i was going to get the woodfordes wherry kit) because it seems to be quite an active site and they get good reviews.

2nd question – forgive the naivety here. The yeast produces c02 when fermenting and in a closed FV there is an airlock to help prevent contamination. The theory should be that the vented c02 has no smell but is that the case? The wife will go crazy if i make our living room smell like a brewery while the kit is churning away in the cupboard under the stairs 🙂

    *local brew store 🙂

STW has a nasty habit of this. I’ve been mulling over giving home brew a try when this thread pops up.

i think the watershed for me was spending 15 quid on alcohol one weekend and realising that commercial beer is just pi$$.

looks like i’m going to have to give this a try now 🙂

Anyone see him/crash? Bright orange Breeze Bikes jersey? The pics of him on the hospital bed dont look nice.

Carbon – I saw him being helped off his bike when he returned to the pits with pretty much his whole right leg bandaged and most of his forearm. Also spoke to him after the event where he looked stiff and sore but in good spirits. Apparently he clipped a rear wheel at 35mph on the last fireroad descent (which was blisteringly fast)and ate gravel. Cracked his helmet in 3 places but knee / forearm bore the brunt apparently. He was particularly not looking forward to a 6 hour drive the next day.

I have to say it was the 2nd time i attended and i enjoyed it immensely. i put 4 laps in and all were within 3 minutes of each other, so my pace was consistently ok.

i was taking on 2-3l of nuun juice each lap though (i normally drink a lot when riding), so for once cramp wasn’t a factor. must have been one of the few who needed to stop for a pee mid way round…

    Hi,

sorry, lack of terminology for the alfine. yeah, the cassette joint shown in TJ’s pic is held on by a plastic lockring, shown in this pic

and its basically unlocking itself when the cassette joint is doing its shifting.

    davidrussell

having said that all the pics of the alfine have the blue spacer on the drive side, and i can’t remember which way round i had mine. more checking required 🙁

that was my first thought, but i was pretty methodical with laying it all out (i have previous of going in gung ho and ending up with a load of “leftovers”)

i’ll try to find some google images that will help illustrate the issue.

i think my wiki link is valid as the first three paragraphs set out the terms used to define copyright infringement. If Wikipedia is to be believed even the US supreme court couldn’t equate copyright infringement directly with stealing.

    the rest was just bollocks…

There’s a delicious irony that the FBI / BBFC warnings appear on legitimate discs and not pirated ones, so the only time you get told off for piracy is when you haven’t done it. They’ve thought about this.

    this.

boils my piss something rotten. i dont have to have a big sticker on my car tax disc saying “you wouldn’t dodge paying your VED would you?” because i **** didn’t. its the presumption that you’re only one step away from piracy that gets me. lets go raid all the publishing houses and media empires and see how much copyright infiringement is going on in there. see that stoopid little clipart logo you stuck in the corner of that presentation? doesn’t belong to you. now yer a pirate…yarrrgh.

oh, does anyone know of any 64 bit apps that can take advantage of a new machines power? possibly the most disappointing thing i found about APE9 was that its a 32 bit app, so all that memory and power can’t be used. It does render quickly right enough 🙂

Composite – thanks for the feedback, appreciated. I used adobe premiere elements 9 to edit, took a while to get the software working well (brand new quad core i7 was struggling to run it, but dont go there 🙂 and also marrying the input footage levels to the available presets) and learning the app itself was a bit frustrating, but seems powerful enough once you get the hang of it.

I was pretty disappointed when i viewed the vid at work today and when i first saw it on my iphone too – very dark. The adobe premiere software allows you to drop preset effects onto each clip which you can then adjust, which is a bind with 28 clips for a 3 min video. I dropped the brightness and contrast effect onto all those clips, so i’m not sure if it has made it better or worse. like i say it was looking fine on my laptop screen when running on mains, so I will need to have a look at some form of calibration or colour correction as the vid looks bad now. I’ll have a gander at the 3 way colour correction though – thanks for the tip!.

just need to get out riding more and get some good footage to edit up…

i’d be interested if you think the rap track i used fits my vid fergal. I will be the first to admit its all about personal taste, but listen to the lyrics and you’ll see why i chose it.

i completely take the point though that most videos showcase every element except the riding – its pretty hard to make something look awesome if you’re not very good at it 🙂

just watched your vid composite – great work.

    from my very novice view:

loved the soundtrack, very well matched to the vid. melodic and soulful, good beat

i also really like the split screen stuff, although i agree less would be more. totally see why you did it though as it takes practice to get it right! loved the transition at 1min too – looked slick.

again the multiple angles worked well but maybe a bit too many but again you need to experiment. one thing i definitely noticed while making my vid was the lack of viewpoints. if i’m going to make a “good ” vid i’ll have to put lots more thought into the camerawork than simply wearing the chest mount and riding around.

i’ve also noticed my chest footage can make people feel seasick 🙂 move around far too much!

good vid though mate, i liked it 🙂

well, since everyone else is firing their riding videos in for C+C:

my first effort with my gopro HD2. i know some of the scenes are too dark – the curse of my laptop screen being too bright. i need to fix it and re-upload a copy.

i shot in the 960 60fps mode and the footage looks quite square, also need to investigate 60fps on 720p and mess around with 1080p too.

interestingly DB why did you go with a drft HD?

    why enhft?

if you a riding single file in the correct position (i,e, not gutter jumping) and car drivers are leaving the correct gap for the overtake e.g. a car door width, then they have to be on the opposite side of the carriageway anyway. riding two abreast is no different, its just eliminates the option of drivers having a look up the outside and squeezing by using the safety margins as overtaking space.

i just dont get this attitude that we need to be out of the way as we’re a nuisance on the road.

    davidrussell

When did I encourage “dodgy overtaking”?!

by giving motorists the option to “just squeeze past”

Bikes are slow and need to be passed.

so are tractors, roadsweepers and big ass cranes. i seriously dont recommend squeezing past any of these vehicles, so why would you think its acceptable for cars to do that to a cyclist?

If they’re riding double file it’s a pain.

tough. all overtakes should be safe, legal and necessary whether you are overtaking a ferrari, a crane or a bike.
