heres my template-based efforts carved using a pumkin saw from a template punched into the skin:

this is a bit blurry but take on a nokia n86 – you get the idea anyway

This one turned out really well:

it is cheating a bit to use a template but i dont care. sorry for the blatant double post 🙂

whatever you do i'd recommend getting someone with a bearing press to insert the bearings. I wasted days and 2 bearings trying to put the horst link ones in properly – complete PITA. It bugs the t1ts off me that Spec wont sell a bearing press kit to do this, instead they want you to pay a dealer a fortune for a 1/2 hour job.

thanks for the replies folks – appreciated. We currently have a leccy mira – no real plans to change the shower unit unless the price is right, but it is a rather dull white one so doesn't look very contemporary (mira sport 9.0) it works well enough and is less than 2 years old so unless it looks bogging in the new room it will stay. did see a mira with a pimpy silver finish and looked exactly the same so maybe an option to buy spares for it and rebuild the outer casing?

Any recommendations on enclosures or are they pretty uncomplicated? The current one leaks because its not very well made or put together, and the tiles are completely useless(lots of small rectangular bumps, imagine a cadburys bar with rounded edges) Also dont think the builder specced water resistance board behind the tiles, so will probably get it done right

    thanks again folks

not sure about the 2009 hub but the 2006 hub is dead easy to service. basically mine is a 20mm hub with 2 collars on it and 2 bearings behind them. get the collars off by inserting your 20mm axle or 20mm equivalent and using it to lever the hub spacers out. I checked with Spec and this is how they said they would do it. once the bearings are exposed you have to go in from one side and gently find the edge of the bearing (there is a sleeve in the centre which you can move gently out of the way) and gently work round the bearing, atapping it out. once everything is out clean it up, gently press the new bearings in (i used a big socket) and press the spaces back in. job done.

just gotta watch the bearings dont get crushed when putting them back in….

aye, i was. had the dubious honour of chairing the group to its destruction. 🙁

I dont think FCS labelling this as maintenance is fair, as they are fundamentally changing the trails, not maintaining them. They obviously have a motive for this, be it duty of care or a desire to see less accidents, but IMO I dont think they are doing it because they want to see the site flourish and develop, its probably more to do with "dumbing down" CV and getting the trails graded to suit their "families and beginners trail" dictum for the site. My personal opinion is that the changes will be liked by some and not by others, but I wouldn't see this as a sign of future growth – they are only keeping up a duty of care at CV whilst directing the thousands of disappointed MTB'ers to their "premier" sites in the 7S. So much for promoting sustainable MTB eh?

And dont get me started on the MTB framework gravy train 🙂

LLB2 – you're correct, CVDG is no more. The "maintenance" has been completed by FCS, possibly in conjunction with the Carron Valley Partnership which was, frankly, in tatters when we left.

I'll not bore you with the detail but for those that are interested theres some interesting reading here[/url]]

    hora – sorry, re-read my post and I sounded like a w@nk 🙁

I dont subscribe to the whole howies thing, but I dont think its fair that they get a bashing every time. there are loads of clothing manufacturers out there who sell overpriced sh!t but these guys market themselves (rightly or wrongly) as wearing their heart on their sleeve and being passionate about what they do. some folk will buy into it, some wont. It does come across a bit w@nky to me but good luck to them.

i've got a KingPrawn on demo and it is an extremely capable bike for the money. Not tried a lapierre but thats basically what its up against for me anyway 🙂

I love the PH for a very direct feel from the pedals, better IMO than the orange 5 that a i had a very brief shot on at the w/e. You can really stomp on the pedals and it doesn't wallow, it sits up and takes off! Got the DT forks on the front and the 100mm lockdown makes a big difference too, although I didn't find the front too wandering with it up at 150. Its so light for such a big travel bike thats what really makes the difference for me (compared to an 06 spec enduro with a heavyish build)

Climbs really well and propedal makes a noticeable difference. The only thing is the PH has a shortish toptube so you feel quite compact when riding, although I think a slightly longer stem would help or possibly a 20" (i'm 6'1" and was on the 18")

good bikes though, and I think they look good once you get used to it. The main advantages of the shock being where it is is that the PP lever is right at your hand when you reach down and the british grime is largely kept away from it too. The one downside is that if you come off you might find the shock buried in your nuts dont see how that would be any worse than the top tube with cable guides 🙁

i did the virginwines offer last year and got a couple of boxes o plonk for about 80 quid. when they asked for my card details for the "wine bank" i accidentally put in a b0llocks card number so they couldn;t take the cash. when i got sick of them chasing me for the right details i closed the account. I dont think the "vouchers" offer much better value for money that the supermarkets really. and all this crap about sending it back if you dont like it etc is more trouble than its worth, they must count on you not bothering to do it and keeping crap wine.
