2nd hand Nexus 5X? My old one was a pretty good phone.

    Oh and wrong forum, sorry!

Good ideas. Those back up the thoughts that we had. The problem is that I understand that mortgage offers are only valid for 6 months so it wouldn’t take long for our mortgage offer to expire, which just complicates things. I’m not anticipating any material changes in our position between now and then but you never know.

If it’s anything like the charity I volunteer at then maybe 91 of these?

I never realised that they would refund you if you forgot to cancel! I did the free trial then forgot to cancel so just enjoyed next day delivery and watched a lot of films for a year.

@wrecker has the right idea. Be nice, do the social things and ride it out. You may actually meet people you like.

If it’s any help I’ve just moved from a Nexus 5X to a Oneplus 3T. The screen resolution on the 3T isn’t brilliant but the screen is great and it’s very very fast. And 128GB memory for £440!

What about volunteering? I moved at the start of the year and volunteer fixing bikes for a local cycling charity. It’s a great way to meet people and do something good at the same time.

I’ve got an Osprey Flapjack backpack and it’s by far the best laptop bag I’ve had so I’m guessing the courier will be as good.

I’ve not tried that but I’d be interested in the results. if you’ve not seen it before then Monash University does a really good app that let’s you see FODMAPs in various foods.

The problem with my GP isn’t necessarily getting an appointment (although I seldom have anything very urgent). It’s them continually running late. How on earth they can be upwards of 20 minutes late at 9am after an 8.30 start I don’t understand. I appreciate that some appointments do take longer than the allotted 10 minutes but this is every time I go there. My girlfriend was delayed by 40 minutes at a 9am appointment one day!

Comme des Garcons. Not cheap but onto my second. The first lasted ten years.

Ground Effect were expensive when I lived in NZ! Great shorts though and last years. And the customer service is really good for UK shipping.

I did it a few weeks ago. Was £500 but definitely worth it to remove the hassle (over just buying the bits myself). If you’re in Devon then I know a good guy for it.

I found 3 to be quite good, although that was on a USB dongle. It might be worth waiting until you move in because if a neighbour is on BT then you’ll be able to sign up for a month’s BT Wifi-X (or whatever they call it now) account – basically you use a connection through their router (although it is firewalled).

Remember that in addition to the per month charge that you would also need to buy hardware (eg a MiFi).

Pact do really nice decaf coffee beans on a subscription service – I’ve been decaf for a year.

For cheaper beans, Waitrose do them as do Starbucks. There are loads of good decaf beans out there.

For removing the caffeine they use the swiss water process (http://www.coffeereview.com/coffee-reference/coffee-categories/decaffeinated-coffee/swiss-water-process/). Definitely avoid coffee that isn’t swiss water as they’ll have used solvents.

Dualit. They’re expensive but are the only toaster that I’ve had that actually works properly. Plus they have a lever to get the toast up so no annoying launching of the toast across the worktop or not popping up enough.

Interesting thread as I’ve just made this choice myself. I ended up choosing Exeter but working from home for a Bristol company. I’m moving down at the end of the year and looking forward to it!

We’ve recently moved for £800 – costs are for a one bedroom ground floor flat (bedroom, living room and dining room) in Aberdeen with 2 weeks storage. Places were about 4 miles apart.

I read a rough estimate of £50/hour for two men and a van – this works out for us, more of less.

My wife spends much of her day dealing with the fallout of tenancy agreements and evicting tenants. Go and see a solicitor to draft an agreement!

If your tenants then breach the agreement, go and see a solicitor to take action through the courts.

    Aberdeen is not that bad!

Edinburgh is the better city if you like city living. It’s also better for arts & culture – but then it has twice the population and it the seat of the Scottish Parliament so you’d expect that.

Aberdeen wins if you want to live out of town or get out into the countryside. Less than an hour from the closest munros and on the edge of the Cairngorms National park. Plus more money from oil jobs = more money to be able to go and do things.

You should be able to update the maps for the Navman. You’ll probably have to pay for it but it’s just done over USB. Or buy a new SD card.

I don’t think it’s a particularly unreasonable request in itself, although I don’t know what your neighbours tone was when they made the request. Have you been downstairs to find out how noisy it is? We live downstairs from some people who don’t have carpets down and it sometimes sounds like a herd of elephants are upstairs!

Sounds like some discussion is needed to attempt to find a compromise.

PS. It doesn’t matter if they rent or not – an individual’s rights are not dependant upon their financial position or their home ownership choice.

Not knowing the background to the story, if testing isn’t complete then I imagine they are within their rights to complain, especially as it’ll be them rather than the EPA that get blamed if the fuel does turn out to be dodgy.

Oil companies aren’t always evil you know.

Shouldn’t be. The only thing to note would be to use decent 9V batteries as a cheap PP3 is likely to die quite quickly. (Disclaimer: haven’t actually read the datasheet).

It depends if it is simply that they don’t meet the 17th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (which if it’s not a new build it’s unlikely to) or if there is a real problem. I’m guessing the former.

Speak to the building society and see what the score is. They’ll soon tell you if they won’t lend without remedial work.

If you then have any concerns then get a good sparky in and they’ll tell you what really needs to be done. It’s not something that would immediately worry me (although I’m an IET member I’m an engineer/project manager rather than an electrician so don’t take this as gospel).

Do you even need to do anything about the electrics? Unless there is a major concern about the installation then I wouldn’t necessarily bother. You might not need a full rewire, possibly just get the fusebox changed to a modern consumer unit. Just because it doesn’t meet the latest edition of the IET Wiring Regs, doesn’t mean that you necessarily need to do anything about it.

I have the men’s version of this one and I like it. Admittedly I got it in the sale. And the hood makes me look ridiculous. But it’s a good jacket.

It’s infuriating but not exactly stupid is it? The thief stole something that would sell to someone who doesn’t know much about bikes. He doesn’t care about the buyer.

Plus he was probably off his head on smack and stole what was easy.

What are the objectives and outcomes you want from the session? How long will they be speaking for prior to the Q&A? Formal or informal

There isn't much to it really but some tips are:
    – stand up as you'll control the room better (it shows you're in charge and it's really difficult to stop someone talking if you're sitting down).
    – don't let anyone dominate the conversation (you can just say "thanks for your point, let's hear from someone else).
    – keep an eye on the room as people will generally indicate that they wish to speak.
    – it's OK to say 'person X then person Y'.
    – have a chat with your speakers beforehand to make sure they know how you'll be running the session.
    – keep an eye on time (have someone with timecards at the back so you don't have to look at your watch).
    – if appropriate, at the start of the session tell anyone asking questions to give their name and organisation before they ask a question.

The Transport for Londom website has a great journey planner. Best tube ticket would probably be a day travelcard for the zones you need.

Go to the Tate Modern, it’s always worth a wander round

Seven Seas shipped a bike to and from NZ for me. Wasn’t too expensive and goes sea freight (so might take a while). They’ll even give you a box and hold it for a short time until you can collect it.
