I’ve got one from a few years ago and it’s absolutely fine. Not as good as the Park ones that I also use from time to time but it’s absolutely fine for working on bikes at home and it was only £30.

@dan1980 I understand what you’re saying but that sounds like the sort of job interview I’d fail!

    Nothing to do with that.
Hopefully banned from holds too ASAP.

That would be a great idea, them companies might work out that lots of business travel is basically unnecessary and use the array of collaborative working tools they have invested in. Brilliant for the planet and safer too! Not saying all business travel is unnecessary just a decent %[/quote]

That’s not great for those of us who take laptops or tablets on holiday though. Maybe there’ll be a resurgence on internet cafes in response <shudders>

I bought sterile packaged disposable ones on Amazon. In fact if anyone needs one just Pm me and I’ll post one, I have a massive pack and don’t need them all.

@ DrJ: I did a bit of a Sugru fix on mine as I saw the cable was at risk of going. I’ll admit to not thinking about the warranty if it did fail (probably don’t have the receipt now in any case).

How long does it run for? I rarely ride for a long into the night but looked at this as a cheap way of getting a decent road light. I’m also interested in it for the Exmouth Exodus this year.

I would say Exeter because I live here. As Cougar says good cycling infrastructure and an active campaign to make it better. If you’re a roadie too then you’re not far to ride to Dartmoor but it’s also close for driving to MTB. Good access to the M5 (about 30 mins to Taunton), good access to Cornwall and the coast, Flybe flys all sorts of places for travel.

In terms of a place to live, there are some great coffee shops and good beer too.

I really like my RHA ones (https://www.rha-audio.com/uk). Metal bodies, UK company. I have one of the lower end sets (MA600i I think) but they seem pretty solid.

Interesting, thanks. I can’t really justify over £200 just now but a second hand 500 sounds like a plan!

I’m interested in this but from the cheaper end. I don’t need full maps, just something to tell me where to go without having to stop to consult my phone.

that’s what I thought at first, but the Americans are throwing loads of money at them (armoured humvees etc) so I’m sure they’d stump up for a few helmets.

But what’s the point in spending money on helmets that those receiving the aid just won’t use? May as well spend the money on more rifles, humvees etc.

It’s always the first thing I disable on Outlook at work. The minimal extra time taken to get the right email address far outweighs the risk of sending the wrong thing to the wrong person!

I’ll echo the above about the Osprey Flapjack, although I have the rucksack version and have no problem taking it into meetings (although I do work in the tech/innovation world).

I tend to just go with cheap thin cotton towels and hang it up on a coat hanger to dry out properly.

I think probably. How about some clipless pedals that have a bit of a platform? Or just clip in and out.

I appreciate that this probably doesn’t fit in this thread but (in addition to having a tailored suit) I’ve had some pretty good results from getting off the peg suits altered. This normally means finding a jacket that fits and getting the trousers done though.

@mrblobby What bracket did you have a problem with on the Raceblade longs? I’ve just fitted them and was pretty impressed but would be grateful to know of a problem before I ride tomorrow!

I’d suggest a chat with a solicitor too, even if it is just exploring options. I know a good one up in Scotland, happy to discuss in a bit more detail off forum.

I tend to just use a light windproof (currently a Ronhill one from a sale a few years ago) with whatever base layer is best for the temperature. The ones I have just now is water resistant but does a pretty good job of keeping me warm when wet.

Whilst we’re on flying, people who quite clearly take the piss with carry on luggage. You know what the size limits are so no, you can’t squeeze that 65l rucksack into the overhead locker.

Oh and the idiots who stand in a queue for security for ten minutes and only decide it might be a good idea to start getting ready for it when they get to the belt. I mean these regulations have been in place for over ten years, surely everybody knows about them by now?!

My brother raves about his CRV. They use it for towing horse boxes in and out of some quite muddy fields and he rates it over the Discovery they had before. It’s a nice car inside and seems to have plenty of room.

You can put a microSD card into it (up to 256GB) so that should be plenty of space. I can’t remember if Android lets you move apps to the SD card though.

@TINAS True, I based that on my experience of relatively dumb and easy cars

If I’m honest I’m generally inclined to do discs and pads myself as it’s not a particularly tricky job (depending on the discs). Failing that then I’d use a good independent as I always think that labour will be a bit cheaper. This obviously depends on how much having a garage stamp is worth to you.

In terms of parts, I generally just get generic but not cheap and nasty parts from a motor factor.I always reckon that they’re all made by the same people anyway!

I’ve had a couple of those Bodum french press mugs and I like it. Mine is a plastic one and is pretty light. I even tend to carry when working out and about if I know that I’m not likely to find decent coffee.

Can you stretch to this one? https://www.pcworldbusiness.co.uk/catalogue/item/P221534P?from=category&heat=title

It’s the 15″ version of the one that I have just now. Had HP ProBooks and EliteBooks (very nice just very expensive) over the last couple of years and I like them a lot. I’m sure the HP 250 G5 would be absolutely fine, just recommending what I have!

BTW both vendors and buyers are customers. They are using your service and you are creating value for them. They may not pay, depending on your business model, but they are customers.

    davidr

I tend to say that key partners are those who do something that your business model depends on and that you couldn’t source elsewhere. For example, in a ‘conventional’ business, someone who supplies a hard to get part, not your stationery supplier.

In this case I’d struggle to see vendors as a partner as they have no particular tie to your business. They’d be customers surely?

I have the book in my study so will dig it out later to see if it has an illustration of this.

@Flaperon – but surely that means that, using the same arguement, the seller can make any alterations (knock a couple of walls down, convert the spare room into a dungeon etc.) they wish in the gap between exchange and completion?

If that’s the case then property law needs a big shake up! I’d have thought that legally I’m entering into a contract to buy a house and plot of land in the condition that it was advertised for sale. If it’s not in that condition when I move in then it’s breach of contract.

Thanks everyone, I have a few phone calls to make now to sort all this out. A lot of this is new to me as I’ve always had a solicitor who advised more and took more control over the process (may be a Scottish thing or that I was just lucky).

@thecaptain: I was just going with what my solicitor told me but, now I think about it and have done some reading, I guess that make sense.

@nickdavies: The sellers are buying a new build so I’m assuming that they want a bit of assurance before they commit. I have no idea why we are exchanging so early really, I just assumed it was normal down here. I’ll get our solicitor to query though. We weren’t that worried about the delay to actually moving in – they have a young family so we’re just being nice (too nice maybe).

An alternative would be to invest the money and overpay by 10% per year over a number of years?

I use an Osprey Flapjack rucksack and find that it’s a good balance between a technical bag and something that is acceptable to take into meetings. I broke a clip earlier in the year and Osprey sent out a replacement too. It was under or around £50 when I bought it.

It could be a lot worse, on the (few years old now) Deore shifters I have it required the judicious use of a hacksaw and then a bit of tape to remove them.

It’s maybe too far away but the National Coal Mining Museum in Wakefield is brilliant. You get a hard hat and a light and go down into an old mine complete with pretty modern mining equipment. I stumbled upon it by accident and even folk who weren’t into technical/industrial stuff found it fascinating.

I downloaded the British Army one the other day (designed to help people get fit for joining up). I’ve not used it yet but it seems pretty comprehensive and doesn’t require loads of weights etc.

I’ve had a paperwhite for a few years now and really like it. I bought a cheap leather effect case to slip it into when I’m travelling but it lives outside of it for most of the time. It’s great for reading when my girlfriend is off to sleep before me, I can turn the brightness right down so I don’t disturb her.

Is there not the problem that at no point does it imply that the same percentage of mental maths applies to both written work and coursework?

Recently I’ve always stuck them up with strong double sided tape. I’m happy to be corrected but I’m guessing that if there is a fire that causes them to unstick then they should have done their job by then.

Sophie the Giraffe is meant to be quite good. It’s a toy but they can chew on it for teething. My niece loved hers! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sophie-Giraffe-Fresh-Touch-Gift-x/dp/B00C6QAAB0/ref=sr_1_1?s=baby&ie=UTF8&qid=1482094392&sr=1-1&keywords=sophie+the+giraffe

You know that you can change the date that you are travelling on Google Maps?
