I do this for a charity and I just have me and another user as a super admin. We can change passwords and log in as other should we need to in an emergency.

Writing stuff down and putting it in an envelope seems unnecessary.

I’ve got a ln XL Giro (Savant maybe) that fits my 63cm head with a thin woolly hat on in winter. I can pretty much squeeze into a large Giro otherwise.

Windows? Are you sure you’re checking the connect automatically box? Off the top of my head I can’t remember what the Max equivalent is.

The Monash University research is pretty much the standard source. Assuming you’re looking at it from an IBS perspective then the IBS Network is the UK support charity so has a good set of resources that is backed by clinical folk (disclaimer: I’m a trustee).

We do Love to Ride Cycle September at work. There is a subscription but we’ve got employees all over the UK. You just log rides and they add up to a total. Somehow we even managed to beat Walmart last year at some point!

Is she ‘shapely’ and a side sleeper? I read something that contrary to popular opinion if you are a side sleeper even if you are not light a medium or soft mattress is best. A firm mattress does not contort to your shape putting stress on spine and hips – you want your spin straight and your lower hip and shoulder need to be pressed well into the mattress to achieve that. Another trick as a side sleeper is to sleep with a pillow between your legs – apparently good for hips.

Interesting, you may have nailed it there. We did have quite a firm mattress (mine before we moved in together) and have moved softer. We may have to try some of these brands with trial periods otherwise it starts to become a very expensive endeavour.

Little bit of thread drift but how do you go about finding a mattress that works for you without spending a fortune? My wife constantly complains about a sore hip in the morning and we’ve been through a few mattresses. I’ve suggested speaking to a physio as it feels like it’s worth getting to the root cause and starting from there but didn’t get a positive response. Does anyone have any thoughts before we buy another mattress?

If it’s work IT then can you not just install OneDrive and then move it all there? I never have stuff just on my work phone as I always am likely to want it on another device too, it’s all on OneDrive, One Note, and Share point.

I came on to suggest using a stem mount for a stick on Garmin mount. I’ve got one that I used on an out front mount of Zwift but am not sure tht I’d trust it without more support under my phone outside.

@anagallis_arvensis With compassion like that you’ve really missed your calling if you’re not already a doctor. Such bedside manner.

@blokeuptheroad no problem and no offence taken. There are probably lots of dogs being wheeled about unnecessarily but I always want to show the other side of the coin.

We’ve got one for our Dachshund. He’s got IVDD (basically back issues) so he can’t walk too far but he’s young, fit and healthy otherwise. When he has a flare up we take him out in the stroller so he doesn’t go mad inside and to still sniff. It also lets us get outside too. If we go for long walks then we take it so we can all go out.

This is a bit of a sore topic for me as I get fed up of sneering, whispered comments when we’re out with him. It’s his equivalent of a wheelchair – see also various discussions about people parking in disabled spaces and walking into the supermarket.

And yes, I’ll likely also get a rucksack to out him in for walks where strollers aren’t appropriate.

Smartphone sounds easiest, with a subscription to Spotify or similar. From experience with my mum, I would focus on a phone/headphone pairing that connects first time every time (my current phone can be funny with certain headphones) but I don’t have much to offer beyond that.

I use Pact, mainly as they were the best decaf option when I set up a subscription 8 years ago. I occasionally buy baga from a local roaster too.

I’ve had a Vivoactive 4 for a couple of years (second hand from ebay). I need to charge it a couple of times a week but I have a charging cable on my desk so just plug it in when I’m on a call.

Local plumber replaced our boiler last year with an Ideal (he recommended based on our requirements of not-rubbish and not excessively expensive). It cost us about £3k.

We found him by asking friends for recommendations – had to wait for 3 weeks for installation but happy with that (although it was last January).

I don’t mind the new Outlook. It is lacking some features that feel like odd omissions but then it also has some really useful features. On balance I prefer it, although it took a couple of weeks of perseverance to get used to it.

Pocketcasts. I’ve used it for years, not tied to any publication platform.

Maybe a ipad is the answer. We’ve had huge problems in the last few years with her spending money like it’s going out of fashion (a £1k Thermomix that never gets used anyone) and I’m always reticent about spending.

I’ll take exception at my somewhat flippant comment about emailing me stuff to print. I’ve lost count of the frustrating phone calls when she’s done something daft and then it somehow becomes my problem to fix. Me printing stuff may not be efficient but it’s certainly the least ballache option for me.

Edit: thanks for all your input. I know I’m pretty fed up with a number of ongoing problems and this is just another potential pain point for me.

Do they not have a BB tap tool? If you’re in or around Exeter then I know at least one place that can help.

I’ve got an old (pre-456) Inbred built up with Surly rigid forks and 1.5 inch slick tyres (as they were what I had). Bombproof, fun to ride and, possibly, my favourite bike.

I was thinking about this thread over the weekend so well reminded. I’ve not used them that much and that’s mainly been with the photochromic lenses.

They’re OK, not as substantial as the likes of Oakleys but they’re significantly cheaper. They look good, fit me well, don’t steam up for me and I’m happy with my purchase. I am a nightmare for damaging or losing cycling glasses so didn’t want to spend a lot of money. If I was going to buy again and be a bit more careful then I might be tempted to spend a bit more on Sungod etc.

They’re very good at it. You’re talking about predicting the future in an extremely complex and chaotic system. You can’t say how good they are if you have no idea what’s actually involved in doing it or what’s even possible.

This. Predicting precipitation time and percentage is the equivalent of me asking you not only to tell me not only the score of a particular football game in a month’s time will be but also when will the go as be scored.

For future reference clouds often mean rain.

In Exeter then try Rob Hardy. Outside Tim at Sidmouth Cycles. Not sure it they do this but they’re my go to mechanics.

Funnily enough I’ve just been thinking about this. I think I’m going to take a punt and order some cheap water shoes from Decathlon. The cushioning may not be great but I’m assuming they’ll be very packable and I can use them for scrambling about on the beach in the summer.

How well do the hand looms work? I’m interested in one as an easier way of patching clothes.

They’re not flash but I have a wood handled Victorinox that I use all the time. It’s almost 20 years old and still going strong.

I have a Global knife too but don’t really like the handle.

My wife and her family being seemingly unable to manage to set up a three way video call. They’ve been doing this every week for 2.5 years and every week my mother-in-law somehow screws it up. Neither of the daughters seem to be able to just do it in her place.

I just don’t understand, I manage to use Teams/Zoom/Meet multiple times each day at work with no problems. Doesn’t directly affect me, it’s just incredibly frustrating.

Sort of. I mean yes the fax is pretty secure but the actual scrawling on a piece of paper? It’s not exactly fool proof especially in an age where no one does it one year to the next so it looks completely different every time. The best indication my signature had been forged these days would be it bearing more of a resemblance than just the colour of the pen to the last one I did

This was the point I was trying to make. I imagine it’s something to do with the fact that the legal system has tried and tested methods or precedents for identifying forgeries but hasn’t caught up with the modern era.

That or the profession is clinging to the past (wigs and gowns in court anyone?).

    davidr

And I belive they’re still used in legal circles as you can actually send a signature on one.

This always amazes me. We’ve got loads of electronic signature and verification technology yet banks and lawyers want you to scrawl on a piece of paper as proof.

My wife and I got Regatta coats last year. Waterproof, breathable(ish, enough for dog waking anyway), and plenty warm. Cheap too!

Genuinely interested in people’s thoughts on this: what is the advantage of a Kickr bike or similar over my current approach of summer/winter road bike on a direct drive trainer (attached full time and rotated depending on the season)?

I absolutely love sweeping. The physical action of it followed by the satisfaction works for me.

During lockdown I started to enjoy doing the big supermarket shop. I can have a wander around listening to a podcast and accomplish something at the end of it.

We’re DINKWADs (although the dog came after we’d made the decision). For us it was the fact that the amount of stress trying to have kids was causing totally outweighed how much we wanted it. Also seeing how much stress adoption and IVF caused others.

We’re generally happy, although my wife finds it harder as there is more of an expectation for women. The ability to do whatever we want and also having less stress about the state of the world helps.

Yes but bear in mind that most large met services will have models that go beyond their country eg the Met Office data might not be just for the UK.

They’re all right but not perfect. Work better if you’re in an area that has a clear frequency but can get a little frustrating over long journeys if you need to retune. I may have one in the garage that could have for a charity donation if you want to give one a try.
