Would you nessecarily need to keep your bike in a bag/box? or could you just take it on as a bike? Was thinking of doing some kind of alpine point to point this year, and it would solve the 'what do I do with my bike bag' problem. I guess you could just ride across Paris as opposed to taking the metro aswell?

anc – thanks a lot. Think the Newfield might have to come as the mid ride pub stop then.

Simon – Was planning on heading up to Torver tomorow for a bit of riding in Dunnerdale and Walna scar. The press tell me that i will certainly die trying to drive there, are the roads really that bad? Ta

Those pictures look amazing by the way

Anyone else find the distant barking of dogs WAY more scary at night time? The relief at discovering the wolf noises that had being following us around all night was actually a husky dog team was huge the other night.

Sanny – I am being a complete tool and can't figure out how to email or pm you?

And to the OP, Home is a great film, well worth it.

Was maybee thinking Garmisch – Lake Garda, but i had it in my head that taking a Bivy bag would leave a lot of options open. Heavy rucksack wouldn't be great on the climbs, or the some of the descents I suppose. Things is a lack of funds means it is the cheapest way or not at all.

I think it would be 'expedition style' as it were, just riding and kipping under the stars, with everything (ie. not much) in a rucksack is what I have in my head at the minute.

Ta Hungry Monkey, that is what I thought, this could be pretty good weather dependant now i think about it

I thought Virtous was pretty much the greatest film ever. Hans and Frischi's Freeride Adventure (or whatever it was actually called) is also a guddun, for the cheese factory visit alone

Slight hijack but do any of you Highland regulars know how these trails would be to ride in the winter months? Was up there this summer and it was very wet, then on the only fine day bike death prevented me riding what my mates later told me was one of the best trails, above Achnasheen so i am pretty desperate for a return.

Would a (camping) trip up for a few days be feasable in the upcoming half term? Next Easter?

    Thanks

Pretty sure the first one is above Kentmere, and the second one is going down into Long Sleddale????

Veering of the subject a little here, but how good are the descents on the Honister/Scarth Gap/Black Sail/Sty Head loop.

Nan Bield is my all time favourite by the way, Rosset Gill was a little to scary for me..

Let us know how it goes? Walked up a few summers ago and thought it would be ace on a quiet evening. I thought there where one or two bits that looked a tad impossible pour moi though.

I did the Rettenbach climb (HC in the tour of Germany) on a Scott Nitrous thoughtfully equiped with bar ends. Took a looooong while but i got there eventually. I reckon if you are patient there is not much to be scared of.

I had this issue after going from a Hardtail Rockhopper to an 04 Enduro frame. Having just got back from the lakes, i find having one hand holding the fully up seatpost, and placing my other hand on the stem, at the stearer tube, with the low swoopy bit of the frame resting on the top of my camelbak works pretty well. Set a new record of ten minutes carrying without a rest. Hope thats helpful…
