So is the trail on page 21 of singletrack 60 mentioned? Looks promising, allthough most of the other pics in the article make it look like a bit of a mission to get there? Good article that.

Alpin – Haha, well I wouldn’t turn a Paulaner down post ride, but yeah, I agree. Lot to be said for Edelweiss & Weihenstephaner aswell imho. I’m still waiting for a Fristo Getränkemärkt to open in the UK.

    I miss the Alps.

Bill – not sure if this is quite what your after but we rode Climachx in the morning then made the breif drive to Cadair Idris and went up that afternoon. Was pretty good, if fairly knackering day out

Its huuuuge. Saw Berrecloth saying it is a smooth course apart from the landings, that made me chuckle.

I ride with a big rucksack. Went bivvying across the Alps last summer, needed to fit loads of stuff in. I can only afford one bag. I guess I don’t really get this whole mountain biking thing after all

The welsh ridge is just north west of Capel Curig. Not really a ride, just a push up and ride back down, with some really really scary, and for me unridable bits. More pictures here and here. Send us an email if you want an OS ref or some such.

This thread is making me miss the Alps allready.

Awesome event that was. A proper mountain bike race. Was delighted to clock in in just over 5 1/2 hours. The river crossing was one of the dryer bits of the course I thought? Hardtail was painful though. Hats off to the singlespeed fella.

Are they gonna publish the points? Think I may have got a few on the KLL descent, was crap everywhere else though so not too interested. mp means forgot to dib, happened to my little brother. Real shame that.

Just to make it clear – It was awesome

I'm in. Slightly disappointed that the special stages seem to have been shortened & changed, now seems more like one huuuge stage, as opposed to several smaller ones, but still mostly excited. Should be a guddun'

What anc said. It was essentially steep loose scree beforehand, personally I reckon it is more of a challenge and probably a better ride now. There is one HUGE waterbar that seems a bit excessive, and I am a long way from riding it all but I don't think it is too bad. IMO the original erosion came from years and years of thousands of walkers going up and even if 200 or so riders a year go down the grass, I doubt you would notice any change. That said last time I was there walkers where talking the shortcut down the grass.

Dollywagon ain't a great example of the National Park Staircase, but the builders didn't have much to work with, except a loose scree slope. The pitching down from Sty Head utilises a lot more natural features, slabs and the like, and personally I think it is an excellent bit of trails.

    Hows that for 2 cents

Sorry guys, but it is definately the cafe at Achnasellach station

Plus the trails are pretty good too

The one in the farm at Patterdale is one of my favourites aswell. God I love tea shops.

The trail from Grisedale Hause to grassmere is pretty nice. The bridleway turns off from the obvious trail up near the top and goes down a grass bank. I would accidently miss the bridleway turn and stay on the main trail if I were you

Yeah – Don't worry about it, looks like a beast of a ride without any extra bits added on. Was the Kinlochourne tea room open? I am mentally preparing myself for the crushing blow of finding it closed.

There is singletrack on Korcula? Darn it. Spent a whole day riding around the island and couldn't find it. It is an amazingly lovely part of the world though. Was thinking about doing a similar climbing/riding/beach holiday myself, seems ideal.

Sorry, that is not much help at all really

Took my rockhopper with some big forks, short stem, big tyres to the DH tracks at Sauze D'Oulx last year. It was great apart from in the braking bumps. Making a frame bag for it and heading back to the Alps again this year, allthough for more 'trail' trails.

If someone built a 4x track that took 2 days to complete I would be on to a winner

I have got two weeks to get from Arosa to Ischgl this July, so this thread is good news. Crouch_potato, care to mention any specific valleys as I got the mpas out last week, and it looks like using the train could be awesome?

I have! Loved it so much I am going back this year with a tent strapped to the frame. We were doing of the beaten track riding aswell, however we went back for some more DH stuff in Sauze D'Oulx and whilst I took a 'susser my brother still took his hardtail. All good

Down of the end of High Crag to the Scarth Gap trail looks hellish steep & rocky from below. We were passing over Scarth Gap and had planned to make a quick trip up and Down High Crag but we decided against it when we got to the junction.

I don't think I could ride much of it but it would be worth a try.

Huggis – Yep, the Barrisdale – Kinloch Hourne trail, it is the final part of Ianpv's route above. I walked it quite a while back, quite a lot of up and down considering it is a 'loch side' trail. From what I remember (not that much), and as the guys say aboce I think it would be challenging but good fun.

I think I am going to have to give this Mam Barrisdale – Mam Undallain – Mam Meadail loop a go. To promising not to.

13thfloormonk, can I persuade you to take some pictures this weekend?

I have walked the lockside path, and whilst I reckon you would be on and off the bike a lot, It would be a nice ride, especially when you throw in the scenery. Don't know if you guys are interested but just found this:

''Not only was there a path running up over the pass and into Gleann Unndalain, but it was one of the nicest paths imaginable. The impression I got was that it was an old packhorse road, but it was certainly old and blended very well into its surroundings.

Often clinging to the edge of the hill, it wended its way oh so gently up to our high point of the day of just under 550m.

I already had a grin on my face, and was skipping along, but didn't expect the path to continue down the other side.

It did, and with stunning views opening out over Barrisdale Bay we made our way down to Barrisdale''

Sounds promising right? I guess there is only one way to find out

Cheers. Just Geograph'd Mam Meadail and it looks like it might be good singletrack from the pictures? I have heard that coming over from Gel Dessary is a bit pants. I think the Mallaig ferry in and out coupled with whatever trails look promising might be a plan.

This picture of the east side Mam Unndalain look tempting, maybee linking up with the Glen Carnach trail

People really do need to focus less on the scenery and take more pictures of the trails on geograph
