Fortunately the last time he completely naffed it up and swerved up onto the verge to avoid hitting me and I was able to make a little ground between us whist he sorted himself out.

On summer tyres? I thought we were trying to deomonstrate that one could not control the car in winter conditions without winter tyres. :D

Anyone who’s promoting a higher level of consumption over a reduction has the wrong end of the stick.

The only conclusion I have from this is that winter tyres allow you to have the same accident at a higher speed. I hadn’t realised that we should be driving everywhere at max.
    Live and learn.

Why not sit with him and write some sort of business plan for the band?
At the very least he’ll be able to see for himself whether it’s a realistic option or just a hobby.

Five minutes before this statement he was saying how the loyalist trouble makers of last week were no way loyal nor representative of what they claim to be loyal to and that any violence shouldn’t be tolerated. (Or words to that effect).

You get a free ten minutes at midnight.

That should be plenty…………….. Shouldn’t it?

Was up to 85 kgs with a healthy dose of lard.
Got down to 69kg and 15% lard.
    Currently 79kg and 16% lard.
Let’s see if I can get closer to 70kg and significantly less lard.

As it’s so cold, I’m finding I can’t use my iPhone when I wear gloves.

My man servant has the same complaint. My problem is whether to fire the old duffer before or after Christmas. :|

Couldn’t turn or stop because the front wheels didn’t have any grip, or because the back wheels had snow socks on?

Because he was driving too fast for the conditions.
    Wunundred.

25 Years driving – 11 years in the alps = 300 odd weeks of driving on snow

    AWESOME.

He’s got over 30yrs experience so what do they, or we, know

But Neal’s only got 11.

    What would they know.

Apparently they know how to market and sell lots of tyres. :D

For anyone who doesn’t want to go round any corners

That Michelin video is an excellent way for Michelin to promote their Michelin tyres and make people buy more Michelin tyres. The Michelin markeing department must be laughing all the way to the bank.
    Adios.
    EDIT:

The Skoda rear end would break away if I did’t moderate my speed or acceleration while turning.

You’ll find that it’ll break away when wearing 4 winter tyres when driven to hard too, funny that.

If you have decent grip on the front and next to none on the back, what do you think would happen if you try and go around a corner?

In my 30 years of driving experience the answer is simple- you go round the corner.
These threads are quite pointless, IME.

(And yes, in know its a rear wheel drive car)

Which is why you’re allowed a little smile. It’s called humour.

buy 4 if you really really want to spend the money tho

4 for a rwd drive as you need to control steering and drive wheels.
2 on an fwd as the steering and drive is the same set.

4 always… I live in the Alps – seen a lot of backends coming out and cars losing control.

Are these people driving too fast for the conditions too?

Winter tyres are very different from Snow Chains

    Really? Do go on…

    davidjones15

snow tyres do work and you only need to buy them for the driving wheels

    On a fwd.

I don’t see the point of putting them on the rear of a fwd, Never have and am unlikely to do so in the future.

MrsMC thought it was too expensive.

Probably no more expensive than normal tyres and the normal tyres will last twice as long when you use winter tyres.

Shouldn’t your rant be directed at the Post Office or whichever agent is responsible for delivery?
But yes you’re right. Pay little and accept shoddy service, pay more from a shop and get what you want in your hand, urban regenration, a move towards higher levels of employment, higher tax revenues, beatter education and health care, improved transport infrastructures and improved BBC TV programmes.
Shame on you for buying from Amazon in the first place.

so he knows better than I do what my rafters look like!

Which means the builder would be in the perfect position to buy any slate shape tile, so man made Eternit (compressed cement) is called ‘slate’ whereas you might think that the Slate you’ve specified is the welsh quarry stuff. Difference is about 3x the price….. Wouldn’t he?
Specs are there to be adhered to and protected or broken depending on which side of the fence you sit.

A lot of the smaller roof conversion companies do the design themselves and there isn’t a 3rd party architect.

OK, that wouldn’t make me feel comfortable.

Try talking things through with him and have a look at the difference between authoritative tough love and authoritarian tough love. The consequences are important.

Going to the neurology unit tomorrow morning to find out the results of Mrs mW’s surgery to reduce a brain tumour along with the prognosis and hopefully a future treatment plan. It’s been two weeks of being dealt the shitty card at every turn and we could do with getting one piece of even mildly optimistic news.

She’ll be right. You’ll be fine. Be strong.

How the hell do you jolt your son out of a rut like this?

I would suspect that there might be a link between a 15 yr old watching their parents divorce and the current situation. Time to talk to professionals and not internet randoms. I mean for you (singular) to talk not you (plural). I suspect he feels that he didn’t get the level of attention that he should have at that age. D

Maybe get harsh with him, ask for rent so he has to get job etc etc.

I suspect that the tough love approach here will only make matters worse.
EDIT: What motivated him before and what were his dreams and ambitions 4 years ago?

Another point – worth being explicit about materials eg Slate tiles doesn’t mean quarry slate, but any slate shape tile, so man made Eternit (compressed cement) is called ‘slate’ whereas you might think that the Slate you’ve specified is the welsh quarry stuff. Difference is about 3x the price…..

That would be an architect responsibility, wouldn’t it? If you get the architect to specify a product, the builder must use it.
Are NHBC guarantees going to cover work like this?
    Time frames for resolving problems.
Always pay on agreed points of completion and be sure that you pay for completed work to an acceptable standard.

There’s a Little Chef on the A5 at Shrewsbury 15 mins from Telford. Should be open for breakfast.
Tip for the next trip: Don’t stay in Telford.
