20yrs ago I worked with Chris. He was 2 cubicles down from me in the open plan office. He stank of stale BO, he just basically didn’t wash. HR had a word with him but nothing changed. He was stopped from going to Client meetings – the only break from him that we got – but allowed to stink in the office. He left a year later but it was truly awful, I could smell his presence from the office door 20+m away.

This wasn’t IBM was it? If so I still have a drawing of his tie which had the same egg stain on it week in week out.

The hidden environmental cost of dogs is the huge number of owners that drive them to walks. Lockdown has exposed this for me. Roads round here rammed with fido limousines as dog owners are incapable of walking them from front door.My cat laughs at the lazy tossers whilst chewing on a Wren.

We had a poo artist who would leave well formed stools perfectly positioned on the sinks or window sill of the toilet. Never found out who, found in both male and female toilets.

Also, £650k might not be over inheritance tax threshold as married couples can share their allowance, even if one of them’s dead.

This is very important. I executed my mother and father’s estates. Dad died first and I used his allowance to bring Mum’s down to £0. IHT 402 is what you need. I DIY’d it with no problems.

Made off the scale amazing rump steaks in ours at the weekend. Lovely crust and rare inside. Sadly the grill pan melted a tad!

Agree with the above. My grandfather fought at Monte Casino, my Dad in the Falklands and the Gulf. Amazing unassuming men that were real understated heros. We celebrate the one instead of the many.

@martin_t I am you but older. Ran a 37:30 10k in my 30’s and now am 54 years old struggling to get below 47. I find myself much more cautious as I never want to get injured and living in Devon it is just non-stop hills so every run is 1000 ft of climbing. On the plus side I’m going much longer now so on average am banging out 8-10 miles a run with a half marathon offroad most weekends. Seems like old age has slowed me down but allowed me to go further.

It is probably the disaster that is skim links preventing them from working. I never click a link anymore. They work if copy/pasted

The issue is now, should I get probate involved to sort out who gets the cash because there is not enough for all claims. If I do get probate involved, dose this cost come out of the estate first before it all goes to creditors?

Same condolences to all of you, lost my mother in November and Dad year before

craig, as I understand it you can pay funeral expense from the estate prior to probate and add them to the deductions on the online probate form. This will also ask you for other creditors but my understanding is the funeral expenses are sunk costs (IANAL).

I have been using a Bonvivo Intenca for years for exactly the reason you describe. It has a nice big base but just the right size fir a mug full. Seems to have gone up in price as I’m sure I only paid £30 for it

There’s surely enough data to make a bot mod run by AI? You should have python’d yourself out of a job.

@loughan they are fine to 100m which is usual limit on ethernet. I’ve used it in 2 houses and a large datacentre.

DavidB, if there is a tool like that for plugging into faceplates I’d buy it in a shot 🙂

It does. You just use 2 patch leads

There was a good writeup from 2019 by @davidb that was lost when he had the nerve to reset his own site! Maybe if we all ask nicely it could make a new appearance.

Sorry. I’ll get it back up there soon. It’s coming out as part of an e-book project I’m working on.

    Heres the vid:

It was a fairly quiet side street at 3:41pm and I’d been there less than 15 minutes. Feels an awful lot like a money-maker to me, I wonder if the “Civil Enforcement Officer” is a curtain-twitcher on that street?

Entitled motorist speak. You should be made to scrap the moss off that wall as community service.

I’m not really that fit. I have terrible posture. I’m stiff. I work at a desk all day long. My core is not that core to any activity that I do

I’m very cycling fit but identify with this.

So like lunge I am going to say add in running and a core workout. I am in month 3 of an abs specific programme. No six pack yet but posture is better and I feel I can transmit more power to the bike. Running has been a real game changer. Within 2 months I’d taken 5 minutes off my Alpe du Zwift with little extra cycling training.

Does anyone put their dirty bikes in a nice camper?

Yes all the time. I have 3 blankets specially for this and in my Cali they go under the seat/bed. I have fitted a thin carpet as well. We are not super precious about our van like some can be

When people say ‘we used it to go skiing” is that drive to the alps and stay in a bite/air B and B ?

Nope we stay in the van. The diesel heater in my California is fantastic. Someone will be along in a sec to tell me that it isn’t.

Been skiing with 2 kids. Carried many bikes. Camped anywhere and everywhere. Moved house using it. Done numerous dump trips.

Done all this in our massive estate car and tents so whats the benefit of the van? Ability to sleep in a layby?

It’s a bit nicer to sleep in and cook in than a tent, especially in the Alps in winter. We’ve done lots of Aire stops in it. And the chicks dig it more than an estate.

The owners can be a bit rabid about any negative statements though 😂

Me included. It’s our only car, we’ve travelled all round Europe in it. Been skiing with 2 kids. Carried many bikes. Camped anywhere and everywhere. Moved house using it. Done numerous dump trips. For us it is perfect. I can fault a few annoying things with trim but having owned a motorhome and a T25 conversion it’s factory built for me forever. If you want a balanced view look up the vwcalifornia forum where there is lots of good discussion on the pros/cons. It’s rare to find a true hater who has owned one.

don’t know a single owner of one that hasn’t had multiple 1k plus repair bill’s.

You do now so that’s your stats blown.

Owned mine from new for 4 years. I’d sell it for a few £k less than purchase price. But that won’t happen as it has been a fantastic car to own and drive.

£500 for a long weekend, get it out of your system 🙂

This has 100% solved the problem. Cheers exactly what I needed and the money saved can be spunked on a guitar I won’t be able to play very well instead.

This is tough as the naysayers are right…but..one of the overriding reasons is I got a lift home from one of the teachers when I was in 6th form. He had a black 3.0 and I will never forget the sound as he floored it after Skew Bridges. That’s why it has to be a 3. Luckily the current pandemic prevents me getting one and is holding up the house sale.

My Dad had a DS Safari for years and I was lusting over old photos of that as well ffs.

I’m feeling a bit raw as my Dad fought in the Falklands and the Gulf Wars. He served all his life as a pilot in the RAF, won commendations for saving his crew in a Hercules that lost all rudder control (they struggled to work out how he landed it) and never once mentioned it to anyone. He died in a care home with zero support from the state, the RAF benevolent fund etc.. and we could not even get a doctor there to see him at the end. Tonight I’m supposed to go and clap for a guy who lived a full life, had a decent sized house and walked around it a bit for charity then got a holiday in Barbados. Fair play to him I suppose. But I’m struggling to equate it to my Dad’s experience. I feel the true heroes are always those we’ve never heard of. Sorry, it’s an out of order rant I know. But Sir Tom didn’t really unite me with anything or make me feel better.

EDIT: just seen the post above with similar sentiment.
