The stupid amount I spaffed on a Visionair aircon/heater for my shed is now not so stupid.

Interested as to what” full South Downs Way” is?

Does that mean we take her car up there and torch it?

I’m the only nay sayer then. I have the mini wish I’d got the standard 12 as I came from an 11 which would go 2 days.

Also find the keyboard too small. But the form factor is perfecto.

I recovered a significant amount of money from a bank who I won’t name after my terminally ill mother was scammed (not bitcoin). My advice is that you escalate as high as you can up the customer services tree and make a real point about your sons vulnerability. You will be told “no” many times but keep fighting. Action fraud and the police will sit drinking from their chocolate teapot.

In my case it took multiple phone calls and a letter to the CEO. Suddenly they changed their minds, refunded and gave us compensation. Mum ended up quids in from being scammed. I repeat that you must never give up but equally must always be super polite and try and get them to sympathise.

I wish you all the best as this was a torrid time for me and my family. The scammers have arrest warrants out for them now but it’s taken nearly 2 years

I had so many good nights in the Eagle watching the Fish Brothers. Is the 24 hour cafe at the market still open?

I worked with a bloke who is a tool of the highest order. Never met a bigger egotist. Of course he made millions in shares and has booked himself onto one of these flights. I imagine the whole plane to be full of **** just like him every trip. I wish the crew could eject on his flight and let the thing catch up with Musk’s car

My claim to fame is that I was ferried back from London by the Levellers in Charlie’s van the night Bruno fought Tyson. We listened to the fight at his flat then went down the all night cafe for a brace of veggie breakfasts. Never really liked their music but lovely fellas.

My last gig was last night. I was oar number 3 bow side. Practised our racing starts and did a few Ks round the harbour.

A pihole and a sub sorts all issues bar the logout.

As one who runs a number of legacy systems I do sympathise with the site’s various predicaments. STW has grown into being IT centric rather than been born from it. This comes with decision baggage that is hard to shed.

Nobody forced us to drink the Kool Aid.

I forced my Mum to piss my inheritance on an iMac.She managed to suppress her hatred of me for years by using it cheerfully and managing to operate most features without once ringing me up. Furthermore I abused my Dad by getting him an iPad which he had the temerity to login to and send me an email from it. There’s evil wherever you look in the Apple world. Millions and millions of users feigning happiness when they know that in reality they’ve been properly shafted.

Has anyone mentioned the gates yet?

It’s a great ride. I bivied down in the shelter at Dovey Junction and went east which means a nice finish in a town with kebabs. Added bonus is you get a wake up call when the first train turns up at 5am.

You need to read this thread in a Harry Enfield “You didn’t want to do it like that” style.

Have you ever considered it might be down to form factor? Slots take space, in thin form factors it can be more expensive to cut upgrade holes then leave solid, etc..

Anyway this is a Mac thread for us experts so go help out the Windows printer guy ;-)

@thols that backwards compatibility comes at a cost. Did you know that Windows used to contain code to change the memory mode if SimCity was detected to be running? This was done as a workaround as MS were ( and probably still are) paranoid about anything not working. It’s been to the detriment of the OS as a whole and the API is an absolute dogs dinner as a result.

What gets on my t1ts is the OP asked a simple question to those who use and advocate Macs. The thread title didn’t ask the windoze experts to pitch in. but of course the usual suspects can’t help themselves as they need self validation in the choice they chose to make.

I have an M1 Macbook Pro with 8Gb. It’s well fast enough for my workflows which include some complex GIS processing in FME/QGIS and software development. I’d argue that as a Surface replacement you’d be happy with 8Gb. If you can afford the extra then do it. There will always be workflows where you’re swapping to/from disk and this will make a difference. No amount of processor magic can ever compensate for the grunt of moving data in/out of memory.

I used to ride from Devises up to the White Horse then tracks down to Rowde. From here small roads to Urchfont. Up Pear Tree Hill onto Imber track, go east to Netheravon and loop back on the byways.Drop down to Chirton pickup NCN 4 into Devises

I have an amazing hooped bivy from Terra Nova. It’s the Jupiter Lite, out of your budget probably and like Hens teeth. But it is fantastic in really bad weather and I find it really roomy.

Just to update this thread with a Cazoo warning for anyone thinking of going down that route.

I found a car for my wife on 26th May, price was OK mileage was obscenely low but the deal was sealed with ability to get it delivered within 4 days so I paid the full cash price

One day before delivery I get a call saying that they’d missed some damage and so were going to repair it. I was Ok with this as the timescale was an extra 2 days

On date of repair I get another call saying that parts had not arrived and so another delay of 48 hours

Then radio silence for a week until a call stating that it was on its way to distribution centre and would be there within 72 hours ready to book another delivery slot. At this point I ask for compensation and am told 12 months warranty would be added to my order (it wasn’t)

Another call tells me the aerial has to be replaced?? and so more delay to delivery

Then a call to schedule delivery and we agree on a weekend slot. Then another call to push this back to Tuesday which I reluctantly agree to as long as it is final, the car was meant to be here tomorrow.

At the weekend another call stating that they needed to replace the windscreen and so could not meet the Tuesday delivery. I (politely) lost it with the operator and asked them to read through my case history and what would they do. She was obviously profusely apologetic and informed me a manager would be in touch within 2 hours to sort it.

Radio silence so I cancelled the car this morning and am awaiting a refund. I imagine this is going to be equally painful as I attempt to get my money back.

Looking through recent reviews it looks like I am not alone. I think one of two things are going on here:-

    a) their logistics are bolloxed and they routinely lie to cover up for delays
    b) they have sold the car too low and are trying to push me into a refund

I’d rather be bent over a dealers desk and properly shafted than go through this again. I worry that the honeymoon period for them is over and they cannot cope with demand ..or their finances are in a state. I can only say one more time based on my experience….steer clear.

Massive like to the solid worktops issue. We 100% regret our dark oak which looks utterly shite near the sink no matter how much oil or gubbins we use. It’s getting binned off for granite if we could ever find someone who would actually turn up to quote and do it.

Oil is a waste of time you cannot stop the dark patches unless you disconnect the sink and ban all liquids from the kitchen.

I think you have to own Hunter wellies, a Ranger Rover Evoke and shop exclusively in Waitrose if you are considering Marlborough. Cannot for the life of me see the attraction. A town centre rammed almost every day with 4x4s dropping little lord Fauntleroy off at The Polly Tea rooms. It has the quietest Gregg’s in the UK as an upside.

I bought a car from Cazoo for my wife. Was supposed to be delivered today but I got a call saying they are unhappy with bodywork defects that were not published when we bought it. They are currently fixing these and I’m awaiting a new date. Not sure if this is good or bad but they gave me £50 to say sorry.

If he aspires to run his own business in the future head off to the start up.

I’ve run 2 start ups and also done two corporate stints. Learned nothing about actually running a business in the big organisations. There’s little stability in IT careers in big companies anymore. Senior management are constantly looking offshore. The advice on measuring up the owner is bang on, but I found many many arseholes hiding in plain sight in the corporate world.

OK, fair point – it should be easy. But its equally important to vote for most people. Is getting ID that hard ?

This was impossible for my Dad when ill in a care home as others have mentioned. He would have lost his vote on leaving. He would have voted Tory though. But still it’s a disgrace that it is on any kind of priority list.

The Torys have massively over promised on Brexit and this term in parliament. It will all change in 5 years as the country begins to understand just how long they have been in power and what they have delivered. They have an absolute mountain to climb and Labour plus others have time to regroup and make a new type of politics hopefully aimed at the young. We will never see old school socialism again but we will see a more caring form of government when the current lot fail
