Depends on the exact age of the hub, if it is one of the ‘end of line’ pro 2 evo’s with the 40t engagement then it may have an 11sp freehub fitted. Chances are that if there was no spacer there when you took the previous cassette off then you won’t need one. It should be obvious in that the 13t and 15t cogs will feel loose when the lock ring is tightened if the spacer is needed and missing.

y tips for sticking on the roof with the others?

Use a Thule 591 / 598 and grip the top tube rather than the down tube if it is too far back.

On the back of this thread I bought 4 sets of uberbike race matrix. Wish I hadn’t bothered. The ones on the full suss squeal like a banshee in the wet and stink at the bottom of any descent. Rear pads on the hardtail lasted 175 miles of the British winter (sintered hope in the front going on for 800).
Stick with hope. Buy cheap, buy twice.

Tried to repair old Rockshox Reba forks through my local bike shop, only to find out that my forks are too old (2012) and required spares are not available

I suspect this is LBS BS as I’ve very recently got a full rebuild kit for me to repair a 2007 Reba from TFTuned. Suggest you get in touch with the experts.

I’ve used one for years and I think they’re a little bit better, in that for me, it means I’m less likely to spin out on techy climbs and I’m less likely to stall in them ‘oh shoot I’m in the wrong gear’ moments. As for being able to pull a bigger chainring / higher gear / be faster up climbs / more attractive to the opposite sex claims made by the marketing peoples, they’re mostly bullshit.
So in summary, they’re a little bit better for the same price.

Concrete24 has it right, pretty sure I remember reading once in one of Cy’s emails that non-boost chainset are fine for up to 32t but if you need bigger then you have to go boost (I’m running 34t oval on my soul with a boost chainset). For 11s Shimano cranks, the offset is in the arms so you don’t need to change anything else, assuming you already have the 2.5mm spacer on the drive side.

“I reduced the air volume in my forks so I can run lower pressure for better small bump compliance”.
Stupidest statement ever. No way can reducing the volume and increasing the spring rate give better small bump compliance.

2.35 rock razor would be my choice, faster rolling than the ardent (2.4 ardent knobs are much bigger than on the 2.25) and a similar volume.

Yes it’s possible, just a case of changing the air shaft. Coincidentally, I’ve just gone from 150 to 120 with my pikes so if yours are 27.5 and you want a 2nd hand shaft then drop me a PM.

I have a giro fixture, cheep and cheerful but does the job well and is comfortable. Contrary to dti above, I’ve used my Diablo off-centre on a 7idp helmet in the past and the weight off-centre irritated the hell out of me.

I quite like the dual compound Rekon as a decent winter rear tyre, rolls better than the DHR and copes well with everything apart from the very worst mud.

Another +1 for the WhatsApp tracker, does everything it says above, plus you can share your location to a WhatsApp group. I find it handy for meeting up with the usual group rides and sharing location with all the family.

Ok, I’m going to go against Forum general opinion here but I have hunt trail wides on one bike and hope pro 4 / DT XM481 on the other. On paper they’re similar weights but I think hunt have achieved this by paring down the hub and spokes as much as possible to compensate for excess weight in the rim. Also the hunt hubs, although well sealed are noticeably more draggy than the hopes. Personally I wish I’d have spent a bit more and got a second set of the hope/DT wheels for the other bike as when ridden back to back, they just feel nicer.

My daughter moved up to an XS Kona Blast a few weeks before her 10th birthday. Other than fitting a set of 680 bars that I had lying around and a youth saddle, it fitted her perfectly fine straight away.

I’ve run oval rings and shimano mechs for years. The only problem I’ve had was with an M8000 mech which had zero grease on the clutch assembly and the cage seized up mid-ride. A quick strip, clean and grease and it’s been right since. I’ve noticed M8000 mechs have an oil port on the bottom of the clutch housing, so a few drops of light oil in the hole every few months should go a long way to keeping it running smoothly.

I run the standard ispec a/b lever with tech 3 brakes and I find the position of the lever to be spot-on for me. Personally I think the the LA lever would get in the way but I have quite wide hands. There’s about 5mm of side to side adjustment in the lever position and the LA lever is 10mm longer than standard.

I have a similar experience to kelvin, in that I couldn’t get the zee to work with anything bigger than 36. Switched the cage for a oneup RadR cage and now works happily with a 42. They’re like hens teeth to get hold of these days though.

2015 non-boost pike takes maxxis 2.8 tyres no problem on 35mm rims, even has enough room for a muckynutz. I once shoehorned in a 3.0 Vittoria bomboloni and ran it for about 100 miles but there was very little room for mud clearance.

So back to the OP’s question. I’d suggest an apologetic and tactful email to the park appealing to their better nature rather than all guns blazing on FB, insta and STW.

@tomhoward the wee fella is 10 , how can you tell a wee lad not to ‘go big’. What a ludicrous statement.

Correct, you can’t expect that. That’s why an adult shouldn’t have given the wee lad an opportunity to go to destination fcuked the night before a day at Danny Harts bike park.

Maxxis Ikon+ is nice and fast, not particularly suitable for this time of year, for which I swap to a rekon on the back. Rocket rons are also fast but more fragile than the maxxis offerings.

Just make sure you fit the supplied heli-tape or it’ll make a mess of your paint PDQ.

Why not put standard tyres on to protect the rims in transit and pack the fat tyres in your luggage?

@whitestone, all the faff with goat links is to get shimano 10s working with bigger cassettes (I run an XTZEE OneUp RadR Hope mech on my hard tail to get it working 10s with 42t cassette). Medium cage 11s XT and SLX mechs are designed to work with 46t and can be stretched to 50t on frames with minimum chain growth without modification.

Sunrace 11-46 for me with KMC chain and XT med cage mech. Re: the biggest size, you don’t mention what cage length mech you’re using at the moment, my personal experience with my XT med cage mech and the 11-50 cassette is that it would shift ok in the stand but couldn’t cope with the chain growth on my full suss (a Cotic Rocket). Have since put it on a mate’s hardtail with SLX med cage mech and it’s fine. Therefore I would say if you have a hardtail and your mech is medium cage you can go up to 50t, Not sure about the long cage but as shimano only rate them to 42 IIRC, it may not work at all with anything bigger.

I’m currently running a praxis works on my soul, am impressed with how well sealed it is. After a few months, I reckon it’s as good as my previous hope one at a fraction of the price. Bearings are replaceable and the chainset runs directly on the bearings, none of those daft plastic top hats.

Well you were both right, just dropped the oil from the damper leg and I’d guess about 100ml came out. Looks like I need to order myself a seal kit!

Have flown Manchester to Orlando a couple of times with a bike, never had any issues at Manchester but Orlando seem to cut the locks off the bag every time and go through the contents. Therefore based on the above, Manchester must be the second worst airport to pass through with a bike…

+1 for Rocket Rons, my daughter had them on her islabike and they were excellent. Think I got them from one of the German sites, either bike-components or bike discount.

None of the 10 speed mechs other than the M6000 will work without some sort of bodge (goat link, rad cage etc) however an 11 speed, M7000 SLX or M8000 XT will bolt straight on and work perfectly.

Ditto what’s been said above about your current combo not being too bad. The only thing I’d suggest would be to put an ardent race on the back for a bit more speed.

Would my soul parts transfer to a flare max?

No, you would need the Flare for that. Also, the black would match your orange bits nicely :)
