Legal, RESPONSIBLE, low-key trail riding has been going on for 100 years, operating under the publics radar on low powered quiet machines.
Recently, the sport of enduros has increased massively, coupled with the rise in motocross based loud & powerful 4 stroke bikes which are now being ridden aggressively on the legal & non-legal routes.
This has seen a huge number of previously legal trails closed to motor vehicles, so increasing even further illegal riding in the countryside.
Genuine, responsible trail riders have suffered hugely but & i think the electric bike may be even more of an incentive for people who don’t give a monkeys to ride anywhere they like as they can now ride in places where noise would have given the game away.

I recently got my first FS bike (a santa cruz superlight) after years of hard-tailing.
Immediately the first thing i noticed was the ironing out of very small bumps & stones, this increased the comfort dramatically.
The next thing was the sheer grip available when climbing steep,loose or muddy sections. This was the biggest eye opener for me, it allows more line choices for climbs than was possible with a hardtail.
It took about 30 secs to understand that!

Hadn’t noticed, strangely.

The same thing happened a few years ago with european motorcycle trials bikes, the importers were wanting £4000 for their top end machines, however, you could nip across the channel & pick them up for £2800.
Soon, people started importing them themselves and selling them for a swift profit.
The official importers started to get a panic on and eventually dropped their prices by about a thousand pounds, thus ending the “grey” import industry.

The connect isn’t brilliant for fuel economy, the seats can be uncomfortable, but i’ve had one for a while now & its been great, would get another.
