read this and have a reality check before you go believing everything in the media, you’d be amazed by how much of it is completely untrue when you have first hand experience. See the link below.

Cuts have happened over the last 20 years, to put it down to one party would be naive.

The Somerset levels have flooded on numerous occasions since reclamation. The 1919 floods saw 28,000ha inundated, currently there is 6,500ha under water. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out it was a f*&^ of a lot worse in 1919.

Why shouldn’t people take personal responsibility for where they choose to live? Its pretty blindingly obvious that very low lying areas are at higher risk of flooding, likewise with properties next to River or the Sea.

All too often roof/eves height takes precedence with planners. I’ve worked on numerous projects trying to rectify flooding due to this on some very recent buildings, sad really.

They do yes, and self sealing air bricks etc. The problem is your house isnt designed as a water proof box, the water will get in somehow such as through the floor, walls and many a scheme has failed this way.

However your local authority can still apply for funding for these “property level flood protection” grants to help you out if you’re at risk.

I have a day one cross I use for for a short on/off road commute plus occasional on road jaunts up to dartmoor, works well for me, but maybe not ideal if you want to do more serious bits on the road such as sportives.

Did they know the rules when they decided to cheat? I assume so, so they cheated, got caught and now at least ought to have the balls to accept the penalty

I’m still a wee bit confused as to why they are not building more reservoirs – plenty of water about, we just let the rivers flood and it goes into the oceans.

Thames Water having been trying to build a new reservoir for going on 40 years…everybody wants modern infrastructure, but nobody wants the disruption of building it. So we’re stuck with the Victorian Water supply system.

http://www.iii.co.uk for me, maybe use the regular investment tool, that lets you invest on a set day each month for £1ish a trade, and normal trades are resonable too. Lots of tools/discussion too, and I’ve always had good service from them.
