Have you ever seen a bald guinea pig?

    Yup, nice write-up :-)

I’ve got a softspot for Laggan. Nice place as you’ve pointed out for families. I can easily spend a whole day there hitting the trails & scoffing Gails food :D Great little venue but I’m not hard enough to venture up there in the snaw.

WOuld it be worth getting all the way up there for that?

Probably not IMO. But in combination with the Ten under the Ben route & the fact that Laggan Wolftrax is just along the road, probably sways things towards yes :-)

    still enjoying it?

I don’t know anyone who can say hand on heart that it’s an enjoyable job. Too many uncertainties, variables & the amount of work can fluctuate in the extreme.

Getting your foot on the ladder could be difficult. You’ll need contacts on the inside. Use any means at your disposal to get yourself on a DSV. IE take any job available. Rigger, sat tender, project admin. Anything that will get you offshore. Don’t rely on offshore HR giving you a job. If you’re in ABZ keep an eye open for DSV’s in the harbour. Take a copy of your CV containing all your relevant experience & ask at the vessels security hut if you can speak to the OCM (offshore construction manager) He’ll put you in the picture & will more than likely admire your pluck at getting OB “his” vessel.

Good luck & don’t let yourself be put off. If I can offer any other help feel free to ask.

Err….no. No recommendations for pressure as it depends on your weight & the leverage ratio exerted by the shock linkage. Follow the set-up instructions & use the “O” ring to gauge how far the shock is travelling. At 17 stone I would guess you’ll be at or near the upper limit for shock which ISTR is 300 PSI.

On a serious note, I’m 48 & still happy as a pig in mud. Other than a slight drop in….err….performance, everything’s ace so far 8)

Do a lower leg service on them to check the oil levels in there, I put about twice the suggested amount in so they need doing less often.

    Intrigued :-) What’s involved ?

I’ve been putting the bike upside down as soon as it comes off the car prior to riding. I can’t see how this would allow oil into the foam rings as there’s an air tight seal between them & the internals. Seems to make sense for the bushes though.

    Many thanks, Dave.

The ADvantage 2.25’s I find a good comprimise between grip & rolling resistance. Not a massive amount of tread depth on them so not the best for gloop. As pointed out, about the same size as a 2.35 High Roller. I like them & have ordered some of the 2.4’s to see what they’re like. They are huge apparently 8)

Get to the chemist & get some Pholcodine, it’s a cough suppresant. It also has the advantage that it’s opiate based 8O Can’t recommend it highly enough :D

Yup, too far out by approx 3-4mm. Confusing the issue is that the Boxxer mount has changed over the years, at least once. I’m going to call Hope again next week. I might have to resort to the lathe, I’m running out of patience with this thing :-)

    Cheers D.

looks fine to me apart from a few mm – you sure you’ve not got a 180 rotor on the front?

Worth checking, I’ll have a look. (Defo ordered as a 183) & mount to suit.

Edited to add. Definitely a 183 rotor.

Ay-up Waderider :D I think my brother’s got your frame ! My brothers mate told him “there’s a bicycle frame down the tip, but the chain & seat stays are all twisted, like a corkscrew” Hmm, better get meself down the dump sharpish he thinks. Sure enough, as he suspected it’s a curly Hetchins. That was at least 10 years ago & he sent it back to some place dahn sahf to have it fully restored. It’s an absolute peach & soon to be on Fleabay.

You don’t hale from the glasgow area by chance do you ? Somewhere around there he found it.
