I used it all summer and found it pretty good to be honest. I’ve started using something a bit more substancial on the chain now it’s getting wetter/muddier but find it still works fine elsewhere.
I’ve never used a training regime, just get out and ride is my philosophy. I’ve recently been doing some core strength exercises though and it works wonders. Thinking about doing some yoga or pilates sessions.
I’ve just bought a really old diamond back that I’m going to SS as a pub/rat bike. Can’t think of anything worse for proper mtb’ing though, mtb’s come with gears for a reason!
I’m from MB Swindon. I’ve ridden up there with bigfoot but we’ve always steered clear of the place for club rides due to the issues surrounding access. I’m pretty sure the rest of the club will back me when I say we’ll do what we can to help.
Much as i don’t want to open a can of worms here I’m pretty sure you’ll find it is against the law to cycle on the pavement. As part of the road traffic act anyone seen by a police officer riding on the pavement could incur a £30 fixed penalty notice. like most offences under the road traffic act the police are allowed some discretion
Delicate issue this. Was talking to one of the SPAM guys at the erlestoke 12 earlier this year. There’s a real threat that SPAM won’t be able to put on events on or around Salisbury Plains in the future. Apparently the MOD’s main issue is the abuse they get when out on exercise and encountering mtb’ers. It’s the same as the walkers/4×4 issue for me, all that’s really needed is a little mutual respect.
Never do a big ride without sausage butties in my pack. Make them while the sausages are warm so all the butter melts into the bread, does the job a treat.
Jelly babies, jelly beans and chocolate brownies have all come in handy at various times too.
Not usec a nomad/dirtworker but I have got a mobi which seems to be an almost identical piece of kit. Doesn’t get the bike spotless but it does get most of the mud off before it drys making life a lot easier. On the lower pressure it’s also good for hosing down your legs/arms/face.
I always meant to sell the HT when I bought the bouncer, just never got round to it. I’ll take the full suss out most of the time as my ride of choice but jumping on the HT now and again makes me realise how lazy a rider I can be given the extra bounce. I keep the HT now to force me into riding with some technique when I need it
Take an o/s map with you and just get out and ride, some stunning scenery in the area and you don’t have to go too far before you loose the crowds of tourists. Alternatively, if it’s guaranteed tech singletrack you’re after, Coed y Brenin is just up the road.
Specialized storms front and back worked well on all but some of the lose rock on the moorland. I don’t reckon there’s been a tyre invented that could’ve dealt with “plasticine alley”.
I did toy with the idea of swapping to something a little less draggy but glad I didn’t in the end.
I did MIAS level 2 with Ray Mazey in Bolton (he’s on here I think). You’ll struggle to get one that will qualify you for any height though, level 2 goes up to 600m and level 3 is more or less a mountain leaders course which is a whole different ballgame.
Gutted for the OP but what’s really annoying me is that the copper had a go at the daughter!! When did it become a crime to leave the garage door open?
Less people like that copper and more people like the guy from over the road would make the world a better place IMO!
I registered with MTQ last year and fully intended (along with a few other MB Swindon members)to do a couple. Usual story, club rides and events took over and left us not a lot of time for anything else. I promise we’ll get around to doing it one day.
Had a similar problem myself. A set of ergonomic style grips worked for me and I can thoroughly reccomend the superstar ones. A word of warning though, I know a few people who reckon ergon grips made things worse!
never tried making gels but I find a water bottle containing half water, half fruit juice and a pinch of salt makes a good homemade isotonic energy drink.
I’m hoping to move to mid-Wiltshire, won’t say where cos I don’t want to frighten the natives!
From my experience of looking in the Frome/Warminster/Trowbridge/Melksham/Devizes/Calne areas, there was plenty of property for sale.
Everyone I know who thought about moving to Melksham has either decided against it or wishes they hadn’t moved there. Can’t put my finger on it but there’s something about the place.
do an internet search for “cowlyyd loop” a decent ride although can be a bit of a grueller if there’s been a lot of rain. Can be turned into an epic by tagging the marin trail onto it
Tonight – ride up to croft trail and get 3 laps in with MB Swindon followed by a pint or 4 followed by ride home.
Saturday – gentle cycle path ride with the kids and a picnic, takeaway and telly with the mts in the evening.
Sunday – good old blast around Wyre Forest with the MB Swindon lot again.
Happy days!
