    Everywhen – understood.

The BG chap mentioned this and was practical when seeing our old shower – had a number of suggestions which started with see what happens and ended up with you need to be aware of maybe needing a new shower. He also mentioned maybe needing a larger mains pipe to the cylinder.

That's the dilemma I think – BG will give you solid advice, sort it all and do a 'proper job', but, at a cost of course.

Good to see others have come to the same Vaillant conclusion.

    Nick – I'm in Leamington Spa\ Warwick :-(

Lets have some other recommendations for my area then chaps/chapesses

I know I could get a combi boiler and take out the cylinder and tanks and it would be cheaper but don't really want a combi as I like the setup of having a cylinder with immersion heater for when it breaks down – which it will.

As the BG man said to me – you want a Rolls Royce system so it'll cost….

I am also getting quotes to replace our v old boiler.
Decided to get a British Gas quote first so as the rest can only be better.

I'm looking at changing the HW cylinder to be mains pressure as well which I know will not be cheap so was expecting a high quote – but a Vaillant system boiler, tank, 3 new rads, scale filter, flush etc = £6.5k !! And that was with a 3rd off.

He reckons a combi would be 4k.

More quotes to come but after a year looking at options and talking to friends I'm going for a Vaillant.

The main problem I expect to find is finding a local chap/company whose quote is reasonable where I can trust him/them to do a proper job.
I feel sure that BG would do a top job but at one hell of a cost.

I've had delays in 2 deliveries from 2 different online companies – both dispatched on time and delivered 'first class' 7 to 10 days later.

no wonder RMG are losing so much business.

I bought a pair of 1.8 Medussas for Mayhem when I was convinced it was going to be hell – which it wasn't. I've been dying to try them out for ages and after all the recent rain I convinced myself to put them on the Yeti.

I can report good and bad things.

The 30m ride we did seemed to be mainly on the road going between various bridle paths and they seem very sticky and draggy compared to my usual crossmarks.

On/in the mud though they were amazing, didn't lose traction cut through and gripped like no tyre I've tried before.

They are coming off later on today but I can't wait for Winter and all that mud so I can use them again.

You'll always hear more from people who've had problems.

StuE – that's an ASR5 that's cracked, interestingly at the point where the ASR 09 rear triangle is thinned out and designed to flex.

I hate the look of the new rear on the 5 and 7, the old one looks sculpted, lean and a work of art.

<tongue in cheek> Oh yes and as discussed on our ride on Sunday, if it's cracked you need to get some skills, lose some weight or both <\tongue in cheek>

I've got an 09 ASR and it's been brilliant – no snapping here.

I'm 74kg and ride it like any other xc bike.

I put copter tape on the frame and places where the cables might rub.

Don't worry just get out and enjoy it.

Why design a men's performance top to make it look like he's got boobs.

Niche market there – or is it just me not wanting one ?

Might get some socks and the glasses are good for the price – got some last time they did them

It will depend on how much you want to spend.
My Dad lives in Leyland and when we visit we occasionally stay at Farington Lodge.

Nice place and not overly expensive if I recall – around £80 a night when we stayed but I called them up directly rather than going on the internet. It's in Leyland and a lot better than a great western – For me it's worth the extra money although some won't agree.

I'm pretty sure that SLX/XT/XTR pad designs are the same and are interchangable.
I've certainly bought pads of the same design and they have all fit.

I mainly listen to podcasts so have a wide range on my iPod

I can highly recommend the Danny Baker one – and when it's on Fighting Talk.
Robert Llewellyn's Carpool is good, the guardian cycling podcast – not very frequent but pretty good.

PCPro podcast is OK, Chequered Flag is good if you like F1.
Phil and Phils (Jupitus and Wilding) The perfect 10 can be v funny
I tend to try loads and ditch a lot but these have all stayed for ages.

Excellent news – you can do most of the night laps then to give you enough time for proper field testing.

    I'll bring a decent pillow.

3rd Mayhem for me along with 'Lightly Lubed' team mates onewheelgood on his 7th or 8th (some people never learn) and Crell on his first outing.

I got a £750 Boardman roadbike on CTW last year to do triathlons with.

It's rather brilliant – much lighter and better on road than my old HT – I also hardly ever rode the HT as the Full Sus locked out was just as good.

    It's a no brainer IMO

    +1 for XLJ

I have a polarised lens and a yellow one for low light – pretty much perfect.
I do find changing the lenses a pain sometimes as it's a tight fit.
Got them from ebay at a massive discount from normal online or high street places. I can dig out the seller if you like.

Mine arrived last week and I'm trying to limit myself to one article a day.

By far the best cycling publication – nothing else like it

My reqs for a family car are the same as joolsburger

    Reliabilty
    Safety
    Comfort and space
    Economy and running costs
    Performance

and I've had 2 Honda Accords – first was the saloon which we swapped for the tourer in Jan. I looked at something else when we swapped but it's hard to find anything else for the money that comes close.

I think I might have a spare bar mount somewhere – I stocked up a bit when the UK outlet closed down so I'd be happy to let you have it until you can get it replaced at reasonable cost – I'd probably also be interested in getting another as a spare (and a helmet mount) – I have the same problem on too many bikes and not enough mounts.

I'll be bringing it to Mayhem if that's when you were looking to have it by.

Last year I used http://www.clothes2order.com to order a bunch of team t-shirts for Mayhem.

I wanted a complex printed colour design and they did it all in a few days.

Cracking quality, fast delivery, good prices.
    Couldn't fault them

    Shirts have washed well since

I rode my '93 Team Marin at the weekend for the first time in about a year ( as I bought a Yeti ASR). It has cantis and to be honest I didn't really notice a difference in braking.

It might be because we rode a regular loop which I know well so don't need to brake much but I did notice the grinding sound of mud on the rim compared to riding with discs.

I forgot how much I love riding this bike so it's going to get a lap or 2 at Mayhem this year I think.

Ultimately riding is riding, you need to adapt to what you're on and make the best of it. I cleared riding a bridge which I'd never done on the Marin before – it's not about the bike but the rider.

I might be up for this.

There are a few trails – if you search for Warwick and trails you'll find threads that list them.

We manage to find a few 2-3hr rides that have enough hills to make it hurt and some bit's of OK singletrack.

    Can't argue with zaskar.

Altura are good to start with and comfy but they wear faster and lose the comfort.

Endura bib shorts are the dogs nuts – More expensive but more comfortable and last for ever. Better value for money IMO.

You don't need a site to upload it to – I use Sporttracks.

Free to try and very very good.
