Sounds like a copy and paste error putting the product online.

Another vote for the granite. Had it in a few weeks now. Works well, doddle to fit, cheap compared to one up. It’s basic, but enough to get you out of minor trail side issues.

New 11 speed chain with 2000 mile old chainring that was mated to a 10 speed chain…. Regardless of potential BB bearings, I’d buy a new chainring. I wear chainrings out in less than a 1/4 of that mileage. Depends where and what you are riding though

The original owner? Mattocs come with all the required spacers.
He will need the expensive tool kit or a modified socket and cassette tool to be able to do the travel change tho.

On the OPs point, I too have just been contacted a load of times about a frame I marked as sold nearly a year ago.
Wonder if they’ve done an update or restore that’s livened up some ads that were dead?

They used to do that on the originals. Shame, ace pedals otherwise. Shimano definitely going downhill over the last few years.

When I smashed my ankle up a few years ago, I used one of these: Seven IDp, it uses a plastic brace in the tongue rather than the sides of the ankle like 661 etc, it helps support the ankle in exactly the way you are describing, i.e the upward flex of the foot when dropping ankles etc. Helped me no end

You need the specific M24 tool to fit the BB. Plus I thought it only fits praxis cranks, not gxp, might be wrong tho so happy to be corrected.
To be honest, I’ve used both and both are equally as bad. Praxis I’d say loses the battle as one of the bearings in mine lasted all of 10 miles…

no, you need a proper Praxis socket for it. Where abouts are you? i have 2

sounds like a top out clunk. if thats all you are getting on a 12-13 year old fork you are doing well!
A service might help, no idea if spares are still available for those though

28s don’t fit, simple as that. 25s on mine (when I had it) had about 1/2mm clearance from top of the tyre to the bottom of the fork crown. Grit from the road ground the crown away, so I’d say 25s are pushing it as well.

Been running one for 3-4 months now. Doesn’t shift as well as XT, very clunky. Also find the smallest alloy one to be the weak link. Not snapped a tooth yet, but feel like it’s been close. Won’t bother replacing, will just do the whole drivetrain with xt 12 speed once it’s fully dead.
Also, the steel lower section shifts badly. As in VERY badly. And also coats the chain so it rusts really badly (xtr chain), not something I’ve had with any Shimano cassette.

its not motor oil, its specific 0w-30 oil from rockshox.

Had this on a set of DT Swiss hubs and an old xx1 11 speed cassette. Essentially the spline where I put the tool in to unscrew just disintegrated. Leaving me with a cassette stuck on the freehub.
Had to break out the Dremel and cut the cassette into small pieces to remove it, then very carefully cut through the screw on sleeve till it cracked, without cutting all the way through into the freehub.
    Was a right ballache.
SRAM XD is such a stupid system, just to get a 10speed cog in there, you only find out it wasn’t installed properly when it comes to replace normally.

In a cheap shot, i just put my XL hightower frame up for sale…

Honestly one of the most versatile bikes ive owned and the only one that has been utterly faultless bar the original shock.
Works better in 29″ mode with 150 forks in my experience, i’ve tried 29″ 650+, 140, 150 and 160 forks in all settings and 29″, low geo setting and 150 forks is mega.
gets ridden all over the place, 30+ mile xc rides or short fun blasts, it does it all without fault.

Can’t comment on the Transition other than they don’t look as well finished as the Hightower from what i’ve seen up close.

Given the fact that the background is green, I’m gonna say it’s some sort of recyclable carbon type material.

any reason you are not looking at the Hightower LT?

    ^ What system is that?

I use Huck Norris in the rear, more for protecting the rim/tyre from big impacts. It did me proud at the ard rock after wrecking both rims on stage 1. front flatted with no insert, didn’t even think about the rear as it was still up, till i got to the top of stage 2 anyway and my mate pointed at my mangled rear rim…. tyre stayed on and up despite this for the rest of the race. without it i’d have been exit stage left after stage 1.

I use it now all the time, its light, makes no discernible difference to the ride and requires zero maintenance. highly recommended.

Pro-Core is a faff, had that for a while and blew at least 4 of the high pressure innertubes. turns out the sealant was gluing the tube to the inner tyre and ripping the valves out when it moved. overpriced garbage if you ask me.

Not tried any of the others on the market, but the Huck Norris is lighter than most if not all other inserts, Simple to fit and maintain and works wonders when you need it.

Bargain they are, almost tempting to buy a set even though i don’t have a frame for them at present!

assuming tyres are the same front to rear on both wheels, it just lowers it.

As a 90kg rider myself, 100psi is bonkers. i run about 65psi and still don’t quite bottom out!

    will it take 27.5″ though…

    daver27

I’ve got a 2017 Hightower. It’s significantly better on 29″ wheels. I found the 27.5+ wheels made it vague and trickier to keep on line.  I think plus is great on hardtail, but for full suspension it’s just not accurate enough for my liking.

I enjoyed plus so much I’m about to sell the wheels and tyres..

Yeah, if I hadn’t spent several hundred on a factory dpx2 already I’d be all over that!

Not read all of this thread, but I’ve now owned a Hightower for nearly 2 years. Is it the best riding bike i’ve ever owned? No, definitely not. Is it the best bike i’ve owned? absolutely.

I work in the trade and have had access to loads of bikes over the years, this is the only one I’ve kept for more than 6 months and the only one that has never broken. Its utterly brilliant. Really nicely put together, the bearing warranty is the icing on the cake, quick online form and new bearings in the post the next day.

Owning a bike is about the whole package for me, no point riding brilliantly if it breaks or bearings fail every few months (Mondraker) or the frame snaps (Mondraker and many  others), or the components and ancillaries are rubbish quality – you know the bits I mean, cheap headset bearings, BBs, unbranded hubs etc.

The suspension on mine isn’t the smoothest (upgraded shock vastly helped improve that), but it handles everything I do without complaint and just works where so many others have failed. and after nearly 2 years it still looks like new.

Only looking to sell mine so I can buy the LT version!

Just got a set of the E-XA elites with 40mm rim. Trying out 650+

So far seem ace, nicely finished, tubeless went up with track pump and they run nicely with no pinging popping or creaks. Time will tell, but really happy so far.

And they look pump as with the machined rim.

I live about 2 miles from it in Storrington and last year rode all winter. this winter i’ve been up there 3 times and bailed out after just a few miles. Last weekend was the first time its been vaguely good in the last 6 months i reckon.

That pick above is pretty much how it looked above Sullington

Those are utterly brilliant. hands down the best and most “flat pedal shoe” feeling clipless shoe i’ve used in 30 years. fit is utterly spot on size for size. never had a pair of shoes by anyone fit me like those do.

That will just wash the grease out and you’ll have a knackered bearing you cannot replace….
