    @sui
I’m in the same boat. Been through 5 or 6 sets of sods over the years. One always gets play continuously and then dies, despite adjusting. Very very far from bulletproof, but name me a pedal that is? Still won’t use anything else though. 😁

There are enough other adverts on the page, I can only assume that the scatter gun approach is to hope for an accidental click and some revenue. In my experience hardly anyone clicks on them anyway they are just an annoyance.
Appreciate that they are making an effort to up subscriptions, but hiding most of the content behind the paywall kinda makes it hard to find out if it’s worth subscribing. Especially when it’s linked from Facebook etc and you get 2 lines of text before “SUBSCRIBE”
Anyway, that’s off on a tangent. Bloody video ads, grumble grumble. At least make them so they switch off when the app is in the background.

New hub time or see if someone could retap the thread?

Only time I’ve done this was with a pedal that had worn threads and had worked loose. If they are old and have been pulled out of 3 sets of cranks, it’s almost certain the threads will be goosed enough to not stay tight.

Use a press, but you may have to gently move it to work the cup in on each side to start. Once it’s in a few mm it’ll go in square. I’ve had them go in easy enough

headset colour is personal choice. as is seat clamp (comes with neither if buying a frame)

Chainstay length is adjustable (i run mine in the longest setting just so the wheel can’t move anywhere)

as for tyres, depends where you ride. I regularly swap between Maxxis Shorty, DHF or Michelin Wild Enduro on the front and prefer a faster rolling rear tyre like an Ardent of Michelin Force Enduro.

i’ve not run 27.5+ on this, but haven’t really enjoyed it on other bikes (probably due to not spending much time on it to work out how it works best)

nah, no way i could wangle that as a local ride!
    lol

All you need to know is its bloody awesome and you should buy one.

6’2″ running it with a 170mm dropper and a 40mm stem (have tried 30 and 50mm as well) got a good 10-12cm of non dropper seatpost out about the top of the seattube. could easily run a 210, just don’t feel the need.

    Where are you based?

i’ve got a mk3 in Longer, running it 29er with 160mm forks. Bought it to use as a winter bike but, as above, full sus consigned to the shed. its utterly magic,. Does not ride anything like a hardtail of old, its stiff and direct where needed, but also feels really compliant, long wheelbases help with hardtails in that respect i find.
I’ve set some of my fastest downhill times on some pretty sketchy trails, but equally it climbs like a goat. Don’t be fooled by the long reach, the longer is 510mm, but to sit on it feels quite compact, smaller than my Slash which was a 480mm reach.

i’ve got the vivid pink one and the colour is insane. definitely prepare for being asked about it a LOT

    Moxie

Beautifully made and rapidly becoming my favourite bike i’ve ever owned.

Well this thread is suitably putting me off owning one now.
    Thanks for saving me money!

I’ve been on the Prime DUB BB since beginning of December. Been through some truly horrific conditions that have nearly killed my burgtec pedals.
It’s still silky smooth and creak free. zero complaints.

The colour of the Moxie is insane. Pics don’t do it justice. Would’ve kicked myself if I’d not wrapped it.

Do it. did the same with my pink Moxie. was just going to be a steel winter hardtail for smashing around. Turned up and it was gorgeous, so held off and wrapped it. 8th bike i’ve done. you can’t tell when its on unless you are really close. really does keep the bike in tip top condition.

now you’ve thought about it, you’ll regret it the second you get a scratch, so you HAVE to do it

That happens all the time with tubeless sealant. more so with Stans. nothing unusual there.

just have to regularly clear out the tyre and refresh the sealant.

i’m running Rimpacts with Michelin wild Enduros as well.

    ps, thats a tiny one…

@slimjim78, I’m in Storrington, so not far at all and mines a pink one… finding it to be a fantastic thing to ride anywhere. Got a slightly heavy build on it at the mo, mostly due to heavy tyres with inserts. It’s rapidly becoming my favourite bike

    Pipedream Moxie or Sirius.

I’m on the south downs if you fancy checking out a movie (from a distance of course)

Prior to Brexit I ordered a set of Crank Bros wheels from them. the box was labelled wrong and one of the wheels was incorrect as a result, the other was also out of spec (146mm hub?)
If they are that bad in normal times, I can only imagine. partly my fault for buying Crank Bros, but their internal labelling was all messed up, zero faith now as I know how hard it is getting product into the EU, has to be spot on or it’s just going to be sent back or you’ll end up with a big bill

I just found out thanks to Google this morning that i made the swap from XT 2 pots to E4s 4 years ago.

i honestly didn’t think it was that long ago, brakes still look and work like new, despite having been ridden on 3 bikes now.

bloody love them. almost fit and forget, pads seem to last forever.

just do it if you are questioning it.

i’ve had and ridden both considerable distance. I prefer the GA2 as it is more like a traditional grip in shape and feel with some benefits of the ergo shaping. The GE1 is still not mega ergo shaped like some of their grips, but it is decidedly more so than the GA2 and as such i found it can feel odd in certain scenarios or put pressure on your palms when not “on it”

biggest thing i have found is that if you dont get them set up right for your most used hand/body position or if you move your hands around a lot rotationally, you end up in a less than optimal or comfortable position.

worth noting i’ve since gone back to normal grips in the shape of Burgtec bartenders and don’t miss the ergons at all

I remember asking Pace about this as their bike is “designed around a shorter offset” and using a 51mm offset fork on the Rc529
    this is their initial reply:

“That offset will be fine, it may just make the trail a bit longer but nothing noticeable.”

    Followed by a further clarification

“Offset on the new Rockshox is 42mm whereas Fox is 44mm on our 29ers. Either of those would work well with a Pace bike. So if you have longer offset it will make the trail shorter. It will feel a bit more twitchy or fall into corners abit more easily and also on straight lines it is not quite as stable. Now it will work, and some people may not even notice but in truth it would perform better with a 42mm offset (but it isn’t the end of the World).”

I keep saying it (this is the third time now) have you run the 42mm fork on the frame before? if not you will notice absolutely no difference as there is no difference to notice.
the fact fork manufacturers have different offsets in the same fork size for these reduced offset forks, but not a unified one like 51 makes me fully believe its marketing BS to sell more bikes.
Plus i run a 51 on a bike designed (apparently) for a “40 something depending on manufacturer” fork and its ace, i haven’t crashed, died as a result and the bike hasn’t caught fire.

    @Oceanskipper

i think you summed up this whole debate with this, best advice in all honesty, no matter which is the correct answer, lol:

It does seem to make sense though that pedals are:

    A) Regularly re-greased so that they do in fact unscrew if the bearings seize and

    B) Checked regularly that they are not loose.

    daver27

ah of course wikipedia… source of all truth.

so, put your crank horizontal, pedal forward, attach a spanner or allen key vertically (like your leg would be) and then holding the spanner or allen key, press down. pedal unscrews right? if your bearings are slightly worn or there is play, you’ll get binding and the pedal will unscrew, not tighten, thats why loose pedals fall out… that precession nonsense only applies in a perfect world where bearings have no play. sounds like a physics experiment that applies only what it needs to get the answer.

doubtful, another sitting on an Ardrock from 2019 and a bike bought specifically to do it on as well!
2022 at the earliest i’d say. we are a long way from being back to normal and i can’t say i’d relish the thought of either event in the current climate.

whats all this self tightening nonsense, some kind if internet witchcraft??? they are threaded differently on each side so that if they seize, they both UNSCREW with the pedalling rotation, same as BB’s they unscrew with the rotation of the crank spindle if they seize solid. surefire way of wrecking your cranks is to not do them up properly.

grease them, tighten them up and then give them a tweak for luck and you’ll be good.

I’ve got the Hardtail version and I am seriously thinking the same as a stablemate.
    The Hardtail is epic.

The other way of looking at it is, if you are buying a new set of forks for a new frame that you’ve not ridden before, it won’t make any difference which you buy as it will just “be”.
It will only make a difference if you bought both and tried both. even then its mostly marketing or incremental gains that most riders would fail to notice any real benefit from.

buy whichever is cheapest, fit them and ride

Pretty sure the magnets are in the bracket, not the bottle.
I’d never dishwasher any water bottle as they’ll lose their shape due to the heat.
Also never had an issue just hosing the lumps off and then washing up in the sink, never poisoned myself at least.. how muddy/toxic is it where you ride??? 😆

    daver27

Bloody brilliant, bit susceptible to mud and not clicking back in properly, but not lost a bottle yet, including big days at BPW

love the look, but can’t get past the name after reading the review on here (at least i think it was here) where its name was described as something like a particularly hard poo, which i did find hilarious i might add.

would still ride it though having just gone back to a steel 29er hardtail myself in the form of a Pipedream Moxie. maybe have a look at their shorter travel option as an alternative, the Sirius S5.

Interesting bread, thought it was just me. It’s crap. As is Peatys and pretty much any other that is not Stans. Last time I try anything else tbh.
