PC can hold on to the wrong channel, etc. So make sure it matches what you expect (so on 5G not 2.4G).
Something like wifi analyzer (on android) might hightlight issues like channel overlap etc?

@jackal I did it about 6 months ago, so not that long and not through the winter. But no issues so far.
I did not do the roof, because of the reduction of light that would result (but was tempted).

I used https://www.ecohome-insulation.com/product/multifoil-insulation-conservatory-kits/ to understand what was needed and ordered from them.
Our conservatory is wooden, with dwarf walls, quite large, glass roof, double glazed, with radiators.
It was quite/very cold in the winter (when the heating was not running).
I now work in there so needed to make it better.

I insulated 2 of the glass walls, using their suggestion/kit. It was very easy to do.
I then touched the dwarf wall (that was not plasterboarded) and realised the temperature difference and then insulated that with left over insulation / kingspan. That took a lot longer to do. But the overall affect is significant. Total cost must have been below £500 (but that excludes some kingspan that I already had).

I WFH and upload applications to work, therefore my 30Mbps down and 4Mbps up would make quite a difference to me.

I had a choice of a widescreen one or a 4k std format one.
Lots in the office went widescreen, and has been said above – you need to faff if you are screen sharing with somebody.

I have 2 x 27″ 4k – one is Dell (about 500 pounds), one is Lenovo that was ~£200. I can’t tell the difference between the 2. Although the stand is rubbish on the lenovo.

So, for around 200 the lenovo 4k is a bargain!

I had an octavia 17 plate – it was quite flaky with my old Samsung S7. Changed to a OnePlus 7 and it was almost 100% reliable after that. I presume the important part is to get as new as possible android version.

Just got it, so no long term experience.
It is extra gluepy, so they sell a top up bottle that is just bare sealant and no fibres in it.

My experience of the wiggle sealant was that it sealed, but only for a mile or so, then the seal would break and would have to reseal.

raspberry pi zero with wifi + hifi berry dac – £30? (if you can buy them right now)

    I have 2 PIs using https://www.hifiberry.com/dacs/

pi zero W works really well and is tiny.

Sound is really good, but your setup is higher standard than mine.

It allows you to “cast” from within spotify to the pi.

My issue was a dodgy power socket that had a built in usb charger.

We had one of these https://picclick.co.uk/Pashley-U-plus-2-double-tagalong-trailer-192533799329.html and it was brilliant. Could also put their bags and stuff in a box.
Then progressed to a tandem and separate bike

I am on my second pair of occupational lenses (TBH the best thing I ever did – varifocals dont really work for monitors IMO).
First pair the focal point was a bit close, second pair – I told the optician and he moved it back a bit – much better. So it was worth going with a set of measurements when you have your eyes tested so you can have the lens for your situation.

Always use the di2 tool for removing cables! Also stashing the battery can be interesting (especially if you dont have a purpose made plastic bung for your seat post).

I think this a femtocell – ie a mini cell in your. Runs calls and data over your broadband. It will improve battery on phone too.

I have the bigdug heavy duty in the garage and some lightweight ones from amazon in the shed. The lightweight ones would do for more general storage.

Kids and wife are on voxi – no issues. I am on vodafone sim only with spotify for £20 pm and 10gb
I would buy phone on credit card if I was you.

    I have not ridden AXS.

I have Di2, my kids have it on their road bikes.
For me di2 (I have had it for about 5 yrs) is fine, but not important at all.

    The downsides are:

the wires are extremely delicate (but most normal people will never touch them). But if you do then you really should use the tool.

if the part stops working then you need to have the ability to diagnose, most easily using done by swapping out with other parts (although this applies equally to both di2 and axs).

Battery is normally hidden in seatpost, statistically it WILL go wrong around 4yrs. It is a pain to get to. (AXS is nice an easy – although battery falling off is a known issue with AXS).

If you let your di2 battery go flat it is difficult to bodge something (front mech is supposed to die first – mine did – but rear stopped only 5 mins later). AXS makes this REALLY easy.

junction boxes – they go sometimes – they are normally around your BB. So needs crank removal.

di2 parts are available new and secondhand.

di2 battery lasts LOTS longer than AXS.

I would get AXS because of the lack of cables, joins, easy battery access, battery swapping, simple lever config (di2 can be configured in a similar way though).

I was offered surgery and was not sure whether to go for it or not. Doctor said that builders functioned fine with same level is displacement (level 5 I recall).
It has caused me very little problems in the last 5+ years.
So, for me I would not go for the operation.

Had a generic one off amazon – lasted a couple of months, now have the official Dyson and no issues so far.

I would do a combination of WSL and/or virtualbox.
I would not rush to install on a laptop (screen, keypad, etc – all might cause pain).
I would just put it on a desktop if you really need to https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-Optiplex-128GB-Graphics-Renewed/dp/B0847NDMQD/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2JXT9L5OPQ852&keywords=dell+sff&qid=1643124339&sprefix=dell+sff%2Caps%2C72&sr=8-5

    @poah

I was intentionally simplifying it (I am a software engineer working in an embedded virtualized environment – so I realise that statement is far from true, but the originator of the thread just needs a basic office PC.

    Therefore the sweetspot is:

    i5
    16bg ram
SSD (older PCs probably need SATA not NVMe)
    good monitor

Bought one of those dell refurbs off amazon for about £100. As has been said – just stick an SSD in there.
Also I have a 28″ 4k monitor (lenovo) that was £250 from amazon when I bought.

Chip is almost irrelevant. Better to go for more memory than faster chip (for most people)

I have 3 of these in log cabin that is something like 5m x 3m and the lighting is really bright https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0895G4YF2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

We had a similar thing with green cabinet – it ripped the power out, they put it on batteries for a few weeks, but open reach could predict when the battery would expire and replace it before – so would be out for a few hours every 6-8hrs!
Like somebody said – some people got sims for their mobiles from BT

I had an A6 2.0 tdi CVT – it was boring and rubbish on fuel (slightly better than a Q7 3.0 tdi). Friend has an A6 3.0 tdi allroad – at ~40k miles it threw the cambelt(s) and because of recovery/timescales/covid was charged ~£4k at the dealer.
    How about a 535d/530d?

Shove a spoke up there (I speak from experience). Also done a stick with hot glue when another one went down the seat tube.

Another dunster severn here. I think it is 4yrs old. 5m x 4m, 45mm, with insulation top and bottom.

Dead easy to put walls up – wife went shopping, they were 3/4 up by the time she came back.
Windows – follow the instructions…otherwise you will do it twice (or at least I did).
Straightness – I will really impressed with the consistency – apart from 1 log – that took some persuading.
I did not pay for the pressure treating, but did not want to paint it. Resorted to finding a sealant that does the job.
Power – the thing to realise is that the wiring is on display – difficult to do much about that.
Ours was placed in the shade, that was our only real option, heat from the sun would make a BIG difference. In an attempt to solve the sunlight issue – I put a rooflight in there.

    Issues:
door – the frame is straight, but there is a slight misalignment that multiplies so that the door is not very well aligned, but the tolerance is so small that I cant redo the hinges because it is only a few mm needed.
temperature – when it is REALLY cold outside it takes sometime to get some heat in there (not helped by the door above).

112 depends on what is programmed in your sim. TBH it makes no sense to use 112 over 999 on a UK sim.

bluetooth ones are nice and simple, but you may find them (very) quiet.
I have a raspberry pi zero with wifi and a hifiberry DAC and the sound quality and loudness is so much better than bluetooth adaptor (but does require a level of geek to configure it).

We have/had a problem where when the leaves drop on the trees the signal level increases and results in too much signal and the picture gets worse. This with an amp that has 1 output that is a lot higher than the others.
Also a neighbour had a problem where the connection into the wall socket was poor and the signal was lost there.

I have 2 of those – one has broken – like has been said – amazon and their customer support/service means it should not be too hard to get it replaced.
I tried finding one that took multiple pairs and gave up trying to find one that had a good review/reliable.
    Fantastic when the weather turns.

I have a had 3 sets of chinese-type buds – they all failed after a short amount of time. First set – awful bluetooth range (not even to my back pocket). 2nd set – much better bluetooth, still a bit buggy. 3rd failed within 1 month. They were all Tozo of different generations.
Now have jabra 65t and they are excellent and just work and not a great deal more expensive.

if you have a fast connection to home some routers can act as vpn server, so you can vpn back home and then go back out – so it will matter what your uplink speed is.

Probably have 4 sets of Hunts and their customer service has been excellent, quick/efficient/sensible(!) would buy from them again purely for that – but also like their wheels and the quality for the price.

    short term – umbrella.
self employed – no medium or bigger company would touch you (tax liability for them)
higher paid £200 per day? for a PM? I think you have missed off a zero!
notice period – week to month – depends. just make sure it is symmetrical.
Walking early means you burn your bridges (most of the time).
