Any word of a refund yet @Andy?

😄 I thought you were just taking the piss! Thanks!

Sent something back to RM Cycles end last week. Arrived yesterday. Will update if/when get refund. Dont see why shouldn’t get a refund but not overly bothered.  Checked RM Cycles out and they seem reputable.

Lol fair enough. I meant returned anything to CRC/Wiggle specifically based on their closing down page saying returns within 28 days of order are ok up until 22nd April.

Emailed both Wiggle & CRC at the start of the week but haven’t heard anything back. Know I took a gamble, entirely my own fault, but do have some stuff that didn’t fit and I’d like to return.

Thanks Andy, I actually got it yesterday morning shortly after posting that, some very strange (maybe cache related) thing where I went onto wiggle.com and it was the old holding page with that text and the link to the form worked! Just wondering now whether I believe that I’ll actually get a refund if I send something back now! I’ve tried emailing to confirm but no reply…
Has anyone returned anything & got a refund in the last week?

Yeh this was what was on the holding pages before it all went down:

    <h2 class=”bodySmall” style=”font-size: 1.8rem; color: #282830; font-family: Sora, sans-serif; background-color: #ccd6db;”>Returns Process</h2>

    Return Form

Orders before 22 February 2024 can be returned within 60 days of your order date. Orders after this date can only be returned within 28 days of your order date. No returns will be considered after 22 April 2024.

Please do not return goods outside of these windows as we can not guarantee they will be returned to you

Has anyone got a copy of that new returns form? Asking for a mate…

Yeh I’ve seen that happening before! With the failure rate of the Sram shifters I’m sure there are plenty sitting around or have ended up in the bin that we could’ve salvaged parts from 😢

    Thanks for looking cookeaa!
Good idea jkomo, not sure how I could get something like that to work as the spring is pushing the lever out to neutral. But could maybe put a small elastic band type thing around the brake lever and shifter lever up high on the shifter lever that might keep them together but still let the shifter lever move side to side. Will have a go.

Yeh I’m keeping an eye out for a cheap one. Had a spare left shifter as the shifter lever snapped on it and I was able to get a cheap replacement shifter on ebay, but the spring is the wrong shape… and when I tried bending it to the shape it needed to be it also broke 😭

Set air pressure to give you 25% sag when kitted up in attack position. Rebound dial turned a handful of clicks from full open/fast. Don’t know if they have a compression adjuster knob, but keep it open/ full anti clockwise if riding down, and full closed/clockwise if riding up. :)

My old Specialized shoes slipped more than I liked at the heel. Used some kinesio tape to pack the heel out a bit, and it’s texture was rough enough to help my foot stay in place. Obv not the tidiest solution but I’m sure there’s grippy stuff you could stick onto the heel to keep your foot a bit more planted as a quick cheap fix before spending $$$’s on Sidis that might not be any better? (sidis were too tight on the forefoot for me). My Northwave shoes have a nice rough texture on the heel to help this, think shimano ones do too.

I had around £1k worth of bitcoin back in 2016 or so. Was tight for money, it had gone from around $4000 to $10000 and was coming back down so I thought i’d get out while I was still up, got around £1400 back after all exchanges were done. Vouched I wouldn’t touch it again as I didn’t understand it and it wasn’t really safe to hold back then.
Alas, came to Jan/Feb this year and I couldn’t ignore it anymore. Bought some ETH and BTC, then sold it for a little profit, then bought back some more. I had some money sitting waiting for a new bike that will probably never be in stock so fired some at altcoins/shitcoins and been trying to sell at all time highs and buy back in lower. As of today 3x’ed the account value. Totally aware that it’s worth nothing until I cash out though. Every bit as likely to end up back at 0 and life will go on. I think the potential reward was/is worth the risk. Less so now maybe. Prices are flattening off. Considering pulling most of it out, but prob don’t have the balls. Advice welcome.
Managed to sell all of my ETH at around £3k after the Twitter consensus making me decide it was time to sell. Got pretty lucky ngl.
Elon’s announcement (supposed genius hadn’t considered the energy cost as footflaps says.. 🤔 even though he tweeted in agreement that it’s promoting green energy creation only a few weeks ago..) hurt bitcoin, but I had Nano rocketed today so I sold all of it at around £11 :) Imagine it will come back to £7 or so, and if it doesn’t, I had my fun, made some good profit.
Small cap coins I think are (or were…) worth looking at are Nano, Bancor, Graph, Dia, Bitcoin, Ontology, Origin Protocol, Avalanche, Elrond eGold, Cardano. But yes the altcoin graveyard is large, tread with caution.
Twitter people I follow: @the_coinmaster, @100trillionUSD (have we talked about S2FX yet?), @crypto_stevie .Not sure who called the ETH getting out of hand but will have another look. Take everything with many many pinches of salt and use them to inform your own research/opinions rather than blindly following ofc.
Using crypto.com but trying to find something better. The hidden fees are pretty significant.

Haha, no drinking Saturday night. Just a 65 mile blip on the road bike on Saturday. So was obviously feeling a bit fresher coming into today and thinking it was going to be great 🙃.
Yeh it’s a pain in the hole because it makes me question my ability on things I’ve done before! I feel like it puts me back a couple of steps in my riding every time. Hammer and nail I guess but there must be more to it. It definitely happens much much more when I’m out on my own so I imagine it’s 99% mental. Maybe when I’m on my own I focus on the mistakes too much and then feel shittier and then ride shittier and make more mistakes, while being out in a group has me distracted from any mistakes and then riding better. But I definitely do have plenty of days on my own where I feel great on the bike too!

No love for Rock N Roll Extreme? may have just ordered a 16oz bottle of it :/ Been using Squirt but finding it fairly useless in the British Winter with eternally wet roads.

Yeh I’m aware it wasn’t a brilliant idea haha, was just wondering if anyone had tried it! Didn’t realise you can get a solarstorm copy with a 8000mAh battery for <£25 like that Nestling one! Looks like a cheap light that comes with a half decent battery is the way to go then and I should be able to use the battery with my old light and whatever new one.

“Just out of curiousity, is there a medical term for that degree out of breath after working hard, perhaps uphill in the wrong gear for too long… that no matter how hard you try and control your breathing it feels like you are suffocating…

    Is it anaerobic capacity/threshold ?”

Exercising at that intensity will be VO2 max or pretty damn close to it. Efforts in that region build oxygen debt, which is what your heavy breathing afterwards is trying to settle.

Yeh that’s a great video of getting across to the Swiss National track/Crosets area. It’s worth going over there just for the views from the chairlift alone. Just don’t leave yourself trying to find lunch at the bottom of those trails, there is next to nothing! That trail and the one on the opposite side of Les Gets (at 1:50) were some of my favourites.

There’s absolutely stuff over there to suit all levels, it just didn’t make the cut as it’s not quite as exciting as the sketchy stuff and big jumps! Some of the connecting trails from one resort to another are fantastic trail riding. I actually much prefer that kind of riding to the big manmade jump trails, but the beauty of Porte Du Soleil is how well connected everything is and thus how much variety there is if you’re prepared to explore a bit. There are a few amazing natural trails off the beaten track too (Nyon, Colorado etc.). We were there early August and the main trails were verrry rough (Les Gets braking bumps are like concrete lol) and the queues were pretty long so it’s great to have the options of heading further away for the day. Was there once previously and it was in the closing week in September and there were hardly any queues and the main trails were in great shape so we rode those a lot more.

Would recommend trying to ride a good bit more than normal for a few weeks before or doing some gym work before you go over if it’s your first time so that you can make the most of it. 5min+ 1000m descents are a different sport to UK riding!

Haha apologies for the sandwich eating, friend liked taking the camera whenever it was sitting about 😂.

“My last fun bike ride was in August 2019. It’s been nothing but soggy, freezing misery ever since.” 😂😂 I feel this! Used to be a hardcore all weather kind of rider but I’m getting very soft these last few years… it’s safer to only ride in the dry, right?

I didn’t know things like Boox, Remarkable and Livescribe existed, nor did I know which of Samsung’s 100 tablets would be most suitable so thanks for all the recommendations!
I know I specified note taking, but I do like a colour screen and the ability to annotate pdfs/slides that Boox/Remarkable/Livescribe can’t offer. At some stage I’ll probably get a second screen/monitor for my laptop for home use, but for the moment a normal tablet would be handy as a second screen – e.g to watch a youtube tutorial while I code on my laptop. So I think it’s between Apple & Samsung. The others are the in same price bracket with significantly fewer features, and at best a marginal advantage in note taking specifically.
I thought what Apple were offering was the ability to search for terms in handwritten notes but it looks like that’s only for phone numbers/addresses/dates. I think what they can do is convert your handwriting to text, which can later be searched, which as far as I can see any tablet with something like Microsoft OneNote can do that. So a Samsung coming with a stylus seems better VFM. £350 with free samsung earphones on Argos at the moment and I’ve ~£90 on Quidco to use. iPad will probably last longer and be a bit slicker OS though (i have a MacBook too). Might have to get to a PC World for some touchy feely to make my mind up.

I got a WD My Passport for this very purpose – I’m on a macbook with a 128gb SSD so any video editing was a no-no. Got a 3TB HDD for around £50 with a sale and some student discount. It’s been working pretty perfectly for video editing so far. Run iMovie straight from it and it works (almost) flawlessly. It’s noticeable that the files aren’t running straight from a SSD, there’s a little bit of sound cutting out, but nothing that effects me editing.

Hahaha, it was that simple all along 🙄 Thanks Nobeerinthefridge!
Yes absolutely, it’s a bit dead in the wet! The trails that aren’t too pedally are still ok though, sometimes I like it because it’s not tooo dangerous in the wet compared to the other locals!
Donncha, the trailforks page is pretty good for Bigwood. I’ve looked at it but never used it as such, it should give you a good idea if you’re going down on your own. Otherwise, get down on a Saturday/Sunday morning and I’m sure there will be plenty of guys there more than happy to show you the runs they’re doing, it’s really busy these days. The trail head is easy to find as it’s only one hill, but as you say its very easy to end up going in circles as so many trails intersect and have new/old branches off them! I relate to that after my first few times!

Haha, glad you liked it! The editing was more fun than I thought it would be.
It’s hard enough to find, just off the side of a main road between Newry and Warrenpoint, you just park on the side of the main road and hope for the best! A little forest with a functional quarry in the middle!

To answer questions above – the shop built it up.

    It’s a 2017 frame.

The shop built the bike up, I had no involvement

It hasn’t been ridden many times and the weather has been marvelous, so no, it hasn’t been washed often.

Yeh it’s hard to believe the cable moves that much that near the caliper, but when the suspension compresses the BB (brake cable is routed just above the BB) moves down and the seatstays move forward. You’re right CP, the brake cable goes into the chainstay just out of shot.

Did a full season in Belgium a few years ago.
Most spectacular race would have to be the world champs due to the sizes of the crowd and level of talent on display.
2nd to that, as mentioned above, Zonhoven is a good one for the big ‘pit’ in which you see the riders come down, through, up, down, through and up again. I think the Koppenberg cross is also fairly amazing, along with Koksidje.

Namur is a pretty cool spot but you wouldn’t see as much as a spectator, same with Gavere.

Larrylamb, cheers, good points made there. Potentially am not paying enough attention to suspension after so long chasing pavements! Rockshox Pike and Monarch on the Jeffsy base model should be solid though?

@Gravesendgrunt, that’s looking bloody good value! Will look into that one.

I am coming from a big road biking background, so would you care to say why you don’t think this is the case?
I’m more than happy to not spend more money! But I do think it would be a significant performance improvement.

Some good suggestions so far, much appreciated, carefully considering them all.

@coomber WRT £800 wheels on a £1400 bike – I’m buying the bike for the geometry. They don’t sell frame only or framesets. It has Shimano SLX which is also fully functional. We’ll see how the fork and shock is. After a good frame, wheels are the most important part. To buy a good frame, and good wheels, I’d be looking at a top end spec’d bike, with parts I don’t necessarily need/want. This is a more cost effective way to do things and I can upgrade smaller parts as required/broken.
Doubt there’s anything to be made on the Jeffsy stock wheels as they’re selling at about £200!

@paulneenan, hadn’t considered Rose. Looking for a 29er pretty exclusively, so neither of those, but found the ‘Root Miller’ on there and looks interesting. Are you riding a Rose?

Has anyone any experience with riding Stans (Flow or Arch) and carbon rims? Would be interesting to hear of any stiffness/damping differences.
Like the idea of carbon for stiffer & lighter wheel but would rather be dinging an alu rim in a race run than cracking a carbon one if it came to it.
