Or work bench, vice, tools, bike stand and huge tyre collection.

    floor anchor, check x3
    locks, check x4
    work bench, check
    vice, check
tools, check (not ones that could be used on items 1 and 2 though!)
    bike stand, check
    huge tyre collection, check

    :D

Experience with cup and cone on mountain bikes has put me off but dura-ace on open pro must be the ultimate choice, a man of good taste!

Very nice those Septembers. I went through the same process as you Mick but couldn't resist the Silk Road's curved stays. I'll not be taking it out in bad weather anyway! I'm waiting for some 32 spoke Ambrosio hub/excellights myself from Mr Rowland, they should be better.

True, the saddle isn't pretty but it is comfortable, and once i sit my fat @rse down on it it dissappears. Saddle bag a necessary evil, i prefer things in it than in my back pocket. I guess saddle bags should fall into the same category as mud guards, remove before photo!

Spoon – Its OK, my mate rides one of these: http://www.sundaybicycles.co.uk/MondaysChild.php i'll give him a quick blast on mine and it should end up with nice straight stays.

Thanks chaps, I really do like this bike! Carbon seatpost would be nice but at 16.5 stone I'm just not sure. I suppose I am riding on a full carbon fork though! It cost around £1500 to build up, Sram Rival with a mix of Easton/Pro/Ritchey finishing kit. I must admit that was I to do it again I'd probably go with the standard built bike for £1900 with 3 years never never from JEJames. This 'project' started out a little more modest than it ended up! Or if I had the cash the present PlanetX deals would take some ignoring!

I think Velocity are a bit hard to get hold of over here, hence the lack of replies. You best bet is a US based website, somewhere like this site's forum:

    I can't believe a man doesn't own a hacksaw. It's tool No2 after the lump hammer.

Maybe he progressed straight to angle grinder!

Don't think anyone has posted up a Rocky Ridge so here you go:

Just decided to go with Ambrosio Excellight over the Open Pro. No reason particularly, just fancied giving them a whirl.

    1st choice: 5th element
    2nd choice: 5th element

Medium may be a bit small, I'm 6ft 1in and my large was of chuckable size.

Very nice. I considered the September but in the end couldn't pass up the lovely curved stays of the Silk Road. As and when I need mudguards I'll have to go with the strap on type. I'm liking the SR very much, so much so that I've only been out on the mountain bike a handful of times this year!

Sram Rival would point me to the Culebro or Boardman. Ribble Sportive would be in with a look-in though.

Epicyclic thingy is what you want to head for, running without the impact.

Based on my 06 Heckler, regular is fine as long as its top swing.

I’d say Ti is nice for road bikes as they ride nicely, should last forever and it isn’t carbon (don’t like carbon me!). For MTB I think i’d rather go steel, i’d cry too much if I came off and smashed a Ti frame. For road frames consider these guys:

Very friendly and helpful and the frame rides really nicely. Try here for bargain deals:

I prefer the drop straight down rather than right to North America. What was truely horrible trail sanitisation has developed into a flat out skip and hop undulating blast. I know its not big or clever but I can’t help chuckle when people see me coming, stop, grab their children and retire to a safe distance off the side of the trail. I can’t help myself.

On a more positive note, I’d describe JEJames as…..

    …..variable.

I bought some, fitted them, rode them once then sold the bike.

Damn, they must have been bad!

DMF is about £600 from my local garage in Sheffield.

    Which one is that?

OK thanks. I’ve had no problem with mountain bike skewers over the years, you get that ‘feel’ for too tight/too slack. On the advise of another I’ve been running my road bike skewers with less tension but have suffered all manner of creaks. This evening I applied a little grease around the dropouts and tightened them to ‘usual’ tightness. We’ll see if it does the job tomorrow but I just thought I’d ask the wise in case they should be run with less tension.

its so easy to just get out and ride, and you soon realize how inefficient your big heavy full suss is.

    My thoughts exactly.

“My name is Dave, and I prefer road riding.”

There, I’ve said it, I can’t quite believe it myself but there it is. Bloody Gadget Show, bloody Halford’s sales, bloody Boardmans. 50+mph is a buzz, and with me weighing in at 17 stone and living in Sheffield, its all to easy to get!

If the pads won’t stay back, let a little bit of fluid out of the system (crack caliper nipple but don’t let the fluid get on the pads). You may need to add fluid back again when the pads wear down.

If one piston always pushes out first then the other one is sticking a bit. You can try cleaning the piston outer edge (pump them out as far as you dare!), lube the piston outer edge (brake fluid) or hold the moving pad back with the ring spanner until the sticking one moves out.

I’ve found HFX9s to be fit and forget until pad change time. They then require an amount of faffing about with to sort out but once done you’re back to forget again.

Did a guided tour of my favourite bits for a forum member last Thurs evening. I’m sure there’s plenty of stuff I don’t know about yet but it seemed to go down OK. A charge of £400 was levied for this service (though a SC Heckler frame was included as a gift).

I know its not very helpful keep posting this as its not available as frame only but I’m still excited by my present Rocky Ridge build! It does me just fine around Sheffield/Wharncliffe.

“Just to add another comment I’m 5’8″ and ride 56.5 top tube road bikes.”

And yet I’m 6ft 1in and ride a 56 top tube. A ‘real’ road bike will have you long and low, if like me you rate comfort over speed, a shorter reach higher front end is the way to go. There’s only one way to find out I think, find a good shop and try some out. As stated though keep and eye on stem length and bar ‘length’, they may confuse the comparison.

No help sorry but the answer is to list all future items as UK only!

Hmmm yeah, the flash was strong with that one. Marin Rocky Ridge.

Not sure I’d call in springy but it does ride nice. Triple butted somewhere or other in the frame.

And when lifting the front end, it takes more heft.
