Saw the Satmap model at MM and it looks really good for navigation though as said above it's expensive when unit and maps added together. Some people at work have them and think they're great with the OS maps and have survived being dropped on rocks etc. Though I currently use Oziexplorer for mapping and an old Garmin Geko unit so I'm in the prehistoric age when it comes to GPS !!!!

Depends on the quality you're shooting at – eg HD will require more storage space than VGA for same time recorded – can't quickly find any links with the info on though. As above, the speed of the card is important – your camera spec should say what they recommend.

Got one a few weeks ago but not had time to get decent pictures yet as too busy riding !!! Original write up here ….Thread

Not managed to sort out a decent bike mount yet. Put together something along these lines. using an old reflector mount and some bolts/wing nuts off Ebay. So far found it wobbles too much off road and the wing nut holding the camera comes undone. The wobble is partly down to the length of bolt but also you are attaching it to the bottom of the camera with the weight above the mounting point. The unscrewing might be fixed with some inner tube in between the nut and camera to take up the slack in the thread.

But, apart from that the camera is great for the price. As above not used it much but battery life seems good – at least two hours on rechargables and now I have a bigger memory card I can record about 2 hours @ HD. Remember to factor in the cost of an SD card. Controls are easy to use.

Picture quality on the road has been good. Itdoes jump around a bit when moving but at this price I wouldn't expect super smooth. Biggest drawback is the editing and viewing software 'cos it's not windows XP compatible (not sure about 7).

The description was too long and not well spaced – I use a main heading with a sub heading describing what it is and main points – eg make, model, year, colour, size, overall condition. Then a description covering everything else with maybe bullet points to highlight things. But overall, I wouldn't have touched that listing with the lady and beer can picture.

Shimano every time. Used Hope in the past but you had to get it spot on doing them up otherwise they came loose – would never use them again. Never had one problem with Shimano.

Very enjoyable event. Think I had that "Stirling Moss" look at the end – face covered in dust apart from the white eyes which were kept clean by the glasses. Only managed 7 laps but found the last three laps were much more fun than the others !!!! Not sure why that was as I was rather tired by then.

I use similar to this for the rear wheel on my Simple – not sure of which brand I use but make sure you get one wide enough to take into account the thickness of the rear drop outs.

Find I can tighten it up more than a skewer. Not sure how this fits in with racing if you're wanting a quick rear wheel change but it should be lighter than a Q/R.

I bought the Miele for an ex as a Valentines day present. It didn't make her happy, but the house got a hell of a lot less messy when she packed her bags.

    😆

    Also have a Miele.

    Protein for vegetarians

In response to some earlier threads, eggs provide all the essential amino acids so should form a part of any vegetarian diet (and no I'm not interested in debating whether they are vegetarian or not). See the list at the bottom of the link for other sources and mix and match as link suggests and you should get enough protein. Variety is the key.

When I first met Sheldon he taught me everything he knew about mountain biking. Luckily I've learnt a LOT more since then 😉

    Get well soon.

    Hi all

will give this a go but am confused over what is a cereal as both oats and barley have been given the OK but to me they fall into the "no cereal" category along with rice, wheat and cous cous which I usually eat.

Someone asked about veggie alternatives to meat (to the best of my knowledge). Free range eggs, Tofu (soya bean), Quorn (loosely mushroom based though don't know if it has hidden cereal/dairy), soya mince (soya!!!), Textured Vegetable Protein (again soya based, not sure if it has hidden cereal). As these are packaged foods you should be able to check the ingredients list when you buy. But not Veggie mince / Realeat as that contains wheat.

Not looked into any upper limit with the airline but personally I'd make sure my contents and/or travel insurance covered the bike and kit just 'cos I'm more likely to get a better service from the insurance provider.

Thanks all, understand it'll be personal and also depends on the design of bag – ie tight fit or baggy – but wanted to get an idea of what people did. Will try out a few combinations as can't find any good deals on sleeping bags at the moment so will wait till the end of season sales if I buy another one.

    sexy lingerie

well that goes without saying !!!!

I use a liner mainly so it keeps the sleeping bag cleaner and it's easier to clean the liner than the bag. They are also supposed to keep you slightly warmer but not sure about that.

Use them on rockier stuff – Kyle straits – as they provide protection but don't restrict my pedalling. It's about risk assesment – if I have an off then I'd rather not bruise / hurt my knee and be off the bike for any lenght of time. Also have elbow / forearm pads but rarely use them.

IMO physios are good for an all round assesment of problems and coming up with solutions (ie stretches, exercises, ultrasound). Masseurs vary widely from gentle relaxation to deep sports / remedial but some will also help with exercise and stretching etc. A good masseur should be able to work on soft tissue to correct underlying problems. I would use a sports or remedial masseur for both corrective and maintenance whilst going to a physio for more major issues if not corrected. BTW I qualified in remedial massage in 2004 so have a slight bias.

SLX all the way unless you're looking to save weight for racing.

Enjoyed it last year and it was a tough, interesting course. Smaller event and at times in the evening there was no one near me so it was really riding solo 🙂 And you don't have to finish after 12 or 24 hours so when you can't get that lat lap in you put your feet up and open a beer.

In three year I've split two tyres and another time had the sealant go into a ball and not seal a puncture. On all day rides (30+ miles) I take two tubes. On others I take one. Don't take sealant but do take CO2 canisters, pump, puncture repair kit and tyre patch. If racing laps then just the CO2 canister to reinflate if there's a loss of air.

Paid £2100 total for Worcester Bosch 28i Junior including Magnaclean magnetic cleaner. Simple install for them done in under a day – not items 4, 5, or 11 but including new 22mm gas feed. Would recommend the Magnaclean as it helps keep the system clean and also ease of topping up the system inhibitors each year. Unless your system is really "gunged up" then IMO the power flush shouldn't be needed – but check how this affects the warranty.

Think I run a 90mm stem on mine but I prefer longer stems and to have more weight on the front wheel as I'm XC orientated. Paul @ Cotic prefers the smaller frame. If you're Stratford / Warwick area you can have a go on mine. Email in profile.

5' 10" and ride a medium. No idea of the stand over height sorry – if I can get past the pile of kit blocking the garage I might be able to measure it later.

They seem fairly successful in headsets

But isn't the usage different? Headsets have to turn a limited amount while cranks are rotating. From my usage of HTII I think seals are the most important bits.

Just got back from Mayhem and don't want to total up what it's cost me, from van rental through to the brownie points I now owe the g/f for manning the pits for 24 hours !!!! Only do a few events each year – the CRC Enduros are good VFM – £30 for weekend camping, Sunday ride, a meal and a t-shirt. Add a few 6, 12 and one 24 in and that's me done event wise. The rest of the time I'll spend my money and time riding in the hills. That said I'll probably move into some of the multi day events soon.

I use Skins compression tights and they work for me – not used other compression clothing or just normal tight leggings etc. so can't compare them anything else. Also got Skins compression socks but can't see any difference when I wear them – IMO the fit isn't as good.

I've run ghetto tubless for over a year with no problems. There's no reason why the tape around the rim will wear. The PTFE around the valve might but the sealant should solve that. Personally I'd take some sealant with me 'cos if you get a few punctures it will start to be used up. Oh, and a couple of innter tubes – I've ripped two tyres which the sealant couldn't fix so had to revert to tubes on rides.

Tough course but didn't enjoy the new woods section. Rest of the course was mixture of hard climbing and great sections some of which in previous years were mud. The dusty descent was fun in a "avoid the people falling off in front of you" way.

Was camping in solo area (as a soloist!!!) and as above was surprised by the number of teams there. Lots more camping available this year and the start of the long climb seemed to be quite a chilled and relaxed place to be.

Next to me someone had taped off their area but no tents up. People arrived and set up their tents in this area, including moving the course four feet over to give themselves more room even though they had more than enough space. Saturday dawns and someone else turns up and wonders what's happened to their taped off area?? Yes, the people had just taken the person taped off area !!!

If you're using SLX then you'll have to use an external BB as in your link. But if you're buying SLX new then it should include the BB – CRC. And IMO you'll need the frame faced to fit an external BB which is a LBS job (others might/will disagree with the facing bit)

I've got a 2009 AMS100 which had 90 -> 120mm up front and of course 100mm at the rear but similar in design / concept – it's a great bike, find it comfortable and handles well – I have it set up for Enduro XC. Have riden S & N Wales and Lakes so can handle most stuff.

Schwalbe stopped making them last year in the 1.5's iirc

Looks like you're correct .. this is the email …"Unfortunately the item you have ordered is out of stock with ourselves and when we have placed an order with our suppliers for the item, they have informed us that it is now discontinued."
