And I thought this was going to be a thread on the Lib Dems ……..

Can I ask is there any difference over a lumicycle xpg unit or buy a basic halogen unit then convert it to xpg unit.

Conversion will be a lot cheaper. You may even be able to buy a secondhand set of halogens. Both use the same XPG’s – though with optics available you can do flood XPG & spot XPE with conversion. I’ve not seen the Lumi XPG in use but from their write up it suggests it’s a cross between spot & flood. Cooling will be more efficient on Lumi LED though I don’t think that’s an issue if you’re carefull when you stop with a conversion re power level you’re running at. Driver for Lumi will have more options for dimming.

Still looking at buying the 800 so no direct experience but the bundle price for 1:50,000 looks good value (@ £180 if bought separatly) and should be OK for riding. You can buy 1:25,000 maps for specific areas but they seem to be about £105 which to me is a bit OTT unless I was riding there a lot. Be interested if you’ve found any open source mapping.

Usually DIY but might be tempted to take the bike to the LBS if the gear cables needed changing 😀

See Training Peaks for info on training with power meter. There’s also a book available if you want to read up on it.

Think you’ll need FTP, training zones and power to weight ratio to know if your figures are good.

IMO Shimano XT better than the Hope ceramic that replaced it. CK better than both.

Will anyone else be eating sandwiches for tea tonight by the light of a head torch

And if you use rechargable batteries in the torch which you recharge at work then the cost reduces even more 😀

Snake Oil. Second above comments about bleeding radiators / balancing. Also check the location / setting of the room thermostat if you have one – if that’s turning off the central heating before all other rooms are warm then it needs adjusting. The system should have been designed to work properly so get it working as designed before making changes.

    Discussion on MSE

I have silver foil bubble wrap behind radiators on external walls but only ‘cos I had a free stock of it and I think it might help a bit.

British Gas wanted £800 for a power flush…LOL

It looks like this is a standard tactic from BG for any problem !!!

the most effective way of maintaining weight loss is to eat a high protein/low glycaemic index (GI) diet

Chocolate is low GI, as the fat slows absorption of the sugar

    Sorted 😀

If it’s the battery then check with MTB Batteries as they might be able to sort it cheaper than Exposure. If you want to upgrade to a new model you could ask Exposure what trade in deal they’ll do.

WOO HOO, maybe 33 years after I wanted to see them but never did …. some child hood dreams do come true !!!!

In case you missed out buying tickets ‘cos the tour is “Sold Out” …. standing and seated tickets still available at the ticket factory. For standing, when it says “Choose your price zone” select “standing” and away you go ……

Do you want to ride from the front door or are you willing to drive first ? North Cotswolds can be fun (Ilmington / Chipping Campden). I very rarely ride off road around Warwick but RocketDog off here might have some routes.

If you factor in the cost of the regreasing tool and grease gun and are still prepared to pay the price then Chris King. If not then personally I’d go down the route of replaceable bearings.

    On my full suss bike.
    2009 – 1237 miles / 38 rides, 1 * Shimano XT plus multiple cleans / regreases of a Hope ceramic
2010 – 717 miles / 21 rides, 1 Chris King, one regrease and still working.
BTW – no jet wash was used !!!

“New for old” would usually have a time limit (eg 1 or 2 years). After that they would reduce for wear and tear. But it’s not as clear cut as that since you should be insuring the replacement cost* (not what it cost you) to put you in the same financial postion you were in before the claim. So if you have a niche retro bike it’s replacement cost could be quite a lot higher than when it was new or what you paid for it.

    * replacement cost can be subjective

I use an old rigid mtb on the road with either slicks or semi slicks on. I don’t like the head down position of a lot of road bikes – also getting old with aching neck !!! I fit a rack, mudguards and if there’s a track then I can head off down that. I cycle alone so no need for a high speed to keep up with people or need to cover a set distance in a set time. I can train in heart rate zones and/or cadence, push high gears or sit up and enjoy the view. Agree that parts last a LOT longer than on my pure mtb’s !!!!

So for Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band it’s……

    Itunes download – £10.99
    or
    new CD from play.com – £8.95
    or
    2nd hand CD from ebay @ £3
and then rip the cd to get it in digital form.

Obviously I’m missing something about the art of pricing.

Saw them a few years ago supporting Alice Cooper. Very poor and sound was awfull. Not like the Ace of Spades tour. Now that was a TOP night out 🙂

I thought the main changes for next year were

    1) no more F duct
    2) reintroduction of Kers (don’t know if it’s optional for teams)
    3) driver adjustable rear wing if following someone

I can see the point of 2 from a technology POV but not sure about 3.

What I can’t understand is why they design a new track where overtaking is very difficult (as per the weekend). I don’t want to see endless swapping of positions but at least give them a chance !!!

get a Minoura RDA one as they run on the rim

Do these work on disc brake wheels or do you have to use a rim brake one?

Had an RP3 pushed and it performed worse than standard so personally wouldn’t have a shock or fork pushed again. Three forks serviced – two came back as new, the other one came back better a bit better than when I sent it.

Had my RP23 serviced and they had to send it to Mojo’s as there was a very minor scratch on it (didn’t affect performance). As they can’t get all service parts for Fox next time I’ll use Mojo. But for a full service on a Rockshok they’re OK.

would it work out cheaper having the heating on all the time but set to lower lower heat setting say to 15 during the day, then up it to 18c for thee 2x3hrs when we want the heat

This gets asked quite a lot and the general concensus is that it’s better to heat the house up when you need it rather than heating it all the time. Though factors in this may be how long you are out of the house, how much residual heat is held in the building. Either way I’m in the “turn it on only when you need it” camp.

Room stat set to 16C with TRV’s in the other rooms varying from 13 – 16C. But if the G/F comes round then I’ll turn it up otherwise she won’t take her coat off.

    A) Stop spending money on bits and pieces like Costa coffee – £5 a week = £260 a year. You’ll have to save / invest a lot to beat the not spending money syndrome.

    B) If debts interest > savings interest including tax benefits then pay off debt

    C) if life’s getting on top of you then spend it on fast cars. loose women, cocaine and/or bikes – your choice as to the order……

Could you make two batches at a time? Make a batch and then split this in half. Then, for example, add the white flour to half of the batch. Bake both and see which you prefer. Maybe not much help as this will take time to go thru all the permutatitions!!!!

Been a while since I made any but ….. mixed ingredients (flour, water, yeast, maybe “improvers”) and then kneaded like my life depended on it. I would summise that if you think it’s dry then it needs more water? Never had dry bread but found that eaten fresh is was marvellous but didn’t last long.

Do you use packet yeast or the stuff you add to water?? Sorry can’t remember the differences but packet yeast has added stuff?

24 Hour solo MTB event (MTB) as yet unspecified

    Exposure 24 hour
    .
    .
    .
    .
    My goals
Exposure 24 solo – to collapse over the line having given everything for 24 hours

Better this years solo result @ Mayhem – I’ve told the g/f when I was lying on the floor after this years event that when I said “I’m NEVER doing another 24 hour solo” she didn’t hear me say “this year……”

    Paint the house !!!!

    Bivvy nights

Some long distance off road multi day riding

Sail more – not difficult as I’ve sailed once in the last 20 years !!!!

Chains – there is a big difference in weight and size between the 13mm and 16mm Pragmasis chains / padlocks. IMO a short 16mm would be OK through the frame only but a 13mm 2m would be easier to handle on a day to day basis and if you were to put it through any wheels.

Re mines, spikes on gates etc. Only read up on this briefly but you need to provide a “duty of care” (?) for people on your premises even if they’re uninvited – looked at spiked on top of gates and they sell signs to put up so people know they’re there. But I’m sure the whole area is a minefield of legislation.
