  • Fresh Goods Friday 718 – Bright And Early Edition
  • My nightmares are work related, although most end with me stabbing the boss repeatedly, so I wake up refreshed.

Thanks for the input. We would be looking at shuttle/ uplift plus the odd day or two at a bike park. Nothing crazy DH, but not all day gravel roads either.

Good time for an excuse to mention this.

Loads of bridleways on this route, but if you want technical singletrack of the cheeky variety, just wander down to Puddletown Forest and explore.

Just flown EJ from Gatwick for the third time. In the bike bag was full face, two pairs of shoes, pads, and toolkit stuffed in the bottom under layers of bubble wrap. No quizzing by staff of the contents.

As above, handled by Menzies Aviation staff, 32 Kg is the absolute limit they’re really concerned about.

English law trumps any bylaw. Only the council definitive map is the true record of ROWs. The OS map can sometimes be wrong.
    Are there bridleway signs about?

Local common is a SSSI with one bridleway and plenty of other vehicle width tracks. It’s tinder dry and prone to fires, so the do gooders are out on patrol. Got told off the other night for the crime of cycling, so I told them if its OK for dog turds, it’s good for bikes. Otherwise fence the whole area off.

Just get out to near the start of the labrynth trails on the red section. As you get to the top of the big climb where the wide track goes left to the clearing, look out for a little track on the right. Go along there for a bit and it brings you out on some really steep stuff.

Tooling costs vs quantity sold vs profit I’m afraid.

…. and over time you can make a complete new chain.

CPC is handy because they have to go UPS due to Royal Mail restrictions.

That means next day delivery without having to pay the usual £2.99 extra. Useful if you’re ordering other urgent stuff.

7dayshop or CPC. Not Boots – total ripoff.

Yes, and we don’t even charge extra. £15, or £17 if you want long sleeve.

Do you have any tips for charging / charging cycles? do you let it drain down, or do you just plug it in at the end of every ride and get it back to 100%?

Charge after each ride. No memory effect on these batteries.

    Have you gone tubeless?

Yes, but the Purgatory tyres are hopeless in mud.

Have you found the perfect settings for battery / motor, or do you play around with settings each ride?

    50/70/100%
    Motor current 100%
    Acceleration 50%

Looking like a sunny day and no mud on the trail. The challenge is to complete the full route in under 3 hours.

Don’t forget this is only two weeks away…

Is there anything worth riding at Round Hill (between Broadmoor and the road research place)?

The corkscrew up by the Caesars Camp end is good fun.

They’re supposed to close at 6 last time I was there (November).

I buy Goodridge pads and stop worrying.

Update – got a brand new replacement delivered by the shop this morning.

They tried to update the firmware on the motor but their programming kit wouldn’t play ball.

Fair play to the dealer and Spesh for sorting things out.

Someone on the island was saying the Luccombe Loon isn’t there any more. Pity as he was 10/10 for sheer entertainment value.

Alien was great, Aliens was tremendous. After that it all went downhill into sequel saturation. Surprised they haven’t done Alien vs Terminator.

So why no security guard overnight?

I was told as a kid they were Maybugs and deadly dangerous.

Haldon is £7. Was £3 only a few years ago.

Horses belong in fields happily chewing grass, not because some Henrietta wants the sensation of a big throbbing animal between her legs.

    Is Maximum Mountainbike still going?

And where did my MMB socks go? That’s what I want to know.

You mean these? I wear mine for retro rides.

Is Maximum Mountainbike still going? Haven’t seen that in WHSmith lately.

The shop (and the local rep who happened to be there at the time) were trying to believe I was the only rider in the UK to have these issues. Now I hear a local rider has had a new motor fitted to his, makes me think mine’s not just a Friday bike.

Probably not as the motor was installed in Feb.
Shop has all the kit to do updates so we’ll see.

Bought the bike back in August and has been OK until all these problems started happening at once.

Yes. The bike has had a new motor, new battery, and two new wiring/ sensor systems.
Bike works until the lights show 4 out of 10 and it starts cutting out even on the flat.
It also cuts out on very steep climbs even with a full charge. Having 50lb of bike then trying to drag you back down the hill is not a good experience.
Then there’s the odd experience of random three second bursts of acceleration without pedalling. Strange indeed.

To be fair to Spesh, they are trying to sort the issue. Back to the shop for one last fix (firmware update) otherwise I’ll be getting a new replacement.

Do we know who she is yet? Not Rachel Atherton surely.

Check mine out. It’s a toughie.

    Full map Here.[/url]

then get the IS map out

I could make a Bedfordshire related comment here but I’d probably get banned.

One thing I noticed while living on the island is how quickly word goes round. Mate had a Santa Cruz nicked but within a few weeks found out who had it. He just had to pay a visit accompanied by some heavily built gentlemen and got the bike back.

Didn’t they used to be known as M&P Cycles back in the day?

My Sinclair Scientific from 1973 still works fine.

Just go to Streetmap and find your point on the 1:25000 map. Save the image as a 1Km sq tile.

I made a wooden box to bolt to the wall just above the outside tap. Pressure washer (ancient Karcher) sits in that with a power outlet. Very handy to wash the bike within two minutes of getting back from a filthy ride. Quick blast of air from the compressor and a spray with GT85 and the bike can be put away.
Only hassle is having to take it in on a frosty night.

I still remember 3×7 setups with 12-28 cassettes. Boasting about 21 gears to astonished onlookers.
