  • If he'd shown the camera a lottery ticket bought that day with those 6 numbers on, I'd have been well impressed.

But he didn't, so I'm sticking with the AlasdairMc theory. An infra red laser could have done it.

OK I expect it came with some water repellent treatment when it left the factory.

I always wash mine with Grangers but I never class it as a waterproof.

    Still a decent item though.

    Hang on a mo….

ROFL is talking about the lightest of the Montane range.

I've got another one which is Pertex treated but is slightly bigger (Jetstream). That is slightly better, OK in drizzle but not a proper waterproof.

BTW the stormlight e-vent jacket is amazing.

About as waterproof as blotting paper.

I find it very handy to take on a ride though in case it gets chilly.

Stuffs in the back pocket of a jersey and weighs next to nothing.

I've been using Speedplay Frogs for over 10 years.

Absolutely no problems. All I do is check the bearings occasionally (they're a doddle to replace) and squirt some Pace RC7 into the greaseport.

It's not even an SL as claimed.

I suppose the only alternative would be Wonathan Woss.

Question Time = waste of time. IMO

All this made me think of the last time I had any friendly conversation with a farmer. None of this 'where do you think you're going' stuff.

That was also in Wiltshire – Middle Chase Farm near Sixpenny Handley.

Sadly it was back in 1999. Since then from Devon to the Cairngorms, I've just been met with a load of disapproving looks.

Got all the Memory Map stuff thanks. Off there on Monday and keen to try new stuff while trying to avoid Carding Mill Valley on a bank holiday!

    Don't believe the truth.

    They'll be back.

Built a TV from scratch back in the 1980's.

26 inch colour CRT with teletext.

It retired to the loft a while ago but it still works!

    Er….. don't we have a classifieds forum?

I have a three stage approach to conflicts,

    1. Politely tell them that since 1968, cyclists have a legal right on BWs.

    2. If that doesn't work, tell them its an offence to stop me riding a ROW.

    3. If all else fails I invite them to take up yoga and commit an indecent act upon themselves.

I was riding the coastal path between Lymington and Christchurch when some bloke was walking towards me playing the bagpipes!

Had it been in Glen Tilt I would hardly have batted an eyelid, but down here…..

Could you post a Streetmap OS extract of the area in question so we can all go there?

How about a new tarmac surface on Chapel Gate. Almost all the old stuff has washed away now 🙁

Loads of bikes up there today. Conditions perfect.

Left Dorset at 0630, started riding at 0815. Did Somerton, Weacombe, Smiths, Durborough Farm, Chimney, and Holford Combe. Brilliant day out.

Dead Womans Ditch into Holford combe.

    Wilmot's Pool

Was that you climbing up from Bicknoller Combe?

I'm old enough to remember what the A9 used to be like.

No dual carriageway, few overtaking places, and having to crawl through every town and village like Dunkeld, Pitlochry, Kingussie, and Aviemore etc.

Add the trucks and caravans and it was a horrible experience.

Could be worse, could have been the UKs biggest spider

    Cardinal spider

This beastie belongs to the same family as the common house spider but is up to 6 inches across!

Not possible i'm afraid. I'll be in hell with all the othe atheists!

I'm taking a chance here but I reckon I'll still be riding my bike on the 22nd.

The Bible – like Harry Potter for the Romans IMO

remind me again on the 20th May 2011, cheers

You can remind me again on the 22nd May 2011, cheers.

Montane Stormrider. Best price from Mark Anthony.

I got mine two weeks ago. Well impressed.

    Ceramic lube from Finish Line

Early days but I'm impressed so far.

Get a water pistol but fill it with isopropyl alcohol.

3 in 1 uses – disables the dog, disables the irate owner and disinfects the wound.

37 or 42 inch Panasonic plasma with Freesat built in.

    Sorted

    Listen to this

You have to grit your teeth and listen to the bit at the end.

    Nuff said.

    Another one by Elton….

    Yuk

They'll probably start on Nan Bield next week 😥

Use Nobby Nic 2.25 Front (basic version) and 2.1 Rear (snakeskin version).
That should stop sidewall problems which the NN was always prone to.

Actually I ordered stuff last night no probs, just thought I’d test it again without actually hitting the ‘place order’. Seemed OK up to that point.

I can’t believe a relay station would stop working just because the main has gone digital.

Satellite signals come in at 30 deg to the horizontal so that mountain must be huge!

Can’t see that working for me. The other day I got tooted at (followed by single digit exchanges). My crime was to indicate and turn right on a suburban side street.

Dave, there is the railway line from Cowes, but its hardly a challenge.

The only challenge is where the rabbits have burrowed underneath and the thin tarmac surface has collapsed!

If you look at my route, you’re doing most of the 7 hills killer then keeping going 😮

The best cheeky bit has to be Tennyson’s. I heard the National Trust rangers used to chase MTBers on quad bikes. We’ve only had smiles from grockles though.

The whole area from Cowes to Newport is footpath only. I thought about taking my route via Firestone Copse and Parkhurst Forest but it wasn’t worth it.

Trust me, 55 miles of that terrain over 2 days is plenty.

There is a coastal path which is mostly cheeky (we ride it a lot with surprisingly few moans from walkers)

There is also an official randonnee route which is 95% tarmac and 5% smooth gravel. This follows the coastline as far as roads allow. 65 miles and signposted.

Mine is more inland and follows the coast as far as BWs allow. Plenty of sea views though.

    Enjoy.

I compiled the randonnee route back in 1997! I got some interest from the council about signposts and leaflets etc but it never came to anything.

As I mentioned before, the route guide is on the Extremists website but if you join the Yahoo board there is a file with a load of 1:25000 map extracts of the whole 55 miles.

Two things you need to know – the IOW is bigger and hillier than most imagine.

Done a few weeks ago here

    Rainbowgirl didn’t report back though…..

    Cut gate of course.

I was astonished by the number of walkers up there – whole families not just red socks.

I assume they get the bus from Sheffield/ Manchester to Langsett and another back from Ladybower.
