Oh and if you use http://www.mobiles.co.uk for your replacement, can you let me know as I have a referral link you can use (and i’ll cut you in on it ;-) )

The carphonewarehouse (and http://www.mobiles.co.uk) can do the HTC Touch Diamond2 on Orange.
I’ve just got it on O2, even though O2 themselves don’t offer it.
It’s by far the best of the iphone pretenders – the only reason not to choose it (IMO) is if you don’t want to give up having a button-keypad (as it is touchscreen only).
It’s Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro, but you get v6.5 in a few months when it’s released.

The N96 isn’t enough of an improvement over the N95, and anyway it’s replacement the N97 is out in a month or so…

Blackberrys – make sure you actually test one instore so you know if you like it or not. The email & organiser functions don’t fit as well with Outlook, and I changed my mind about getting one after playing with one for a bit.

Basically if you sell it privately, you could get the money (cash) from the buyer & they take you to the bank & witness you you paying off the outstanding finance over the counter. It’s one way i’ve heard of, anyway.

If you want a shower while you’re there, there is a Texaco (i think) petrol station by the vehicle entrance to the airfield, which has a decent shower in it. Only costs a few euros & is well worth it – we use every day & it makes it a much more pleasant experience.

You could join up on Linked In website & start networking with old contacts?

Well it looks like it’s down to either a sony dvd recording one, or a JVC hard-disk one, both ~£200 or so. Got to go into town to check them out though. MEH!

Is DV tape not dead yet though, really? It can’t be that easy to hook up to a PC & d/load bits n’ bobs, for example?

I think there’s some testy jobs going in Dorchester & Poole if that helps. Hardly in the south east though!

Aye, depends if you signed up for a minimum length contract – check all your paperworks.

Yup, much better than most of the previous series.
Any idea if they’ll do another series?

“A friend is thinking of getting one of those kettles, mainly to save time & money heating water to make up baby formula/milk stuff, as well as regular use.”

Make a batch up in the morning, store them in the fridge and warm one up as your changing their shitey arses.

The instructions with the milk powder say not to microwave to heat up, otherwise that would be what is done…

The link over to Rochdale is a stupid idea IMO – there used to be 2 rail lines from Shaw – ‘Dale and they could just put down the 2nd one and get an improved frequency of service & capacity, etc.
However, the Metrolink will introduce more stops along the way that aren’t there now – but the journey from, e.g. Milnrow, is going to go up from 30mins to ~45 I think.
While the work’s being done, the replacement buses laid on take something stupid like 2hours to get into town coz they take such a convoluted route – even the more direct buses are a better choice – if you can get a seat, that is…

    meh!

Good stuff – wish I was going (‘cept for the rain, that is). I’ve camped in the field off by the airfield before which meant we didn’t have to put up with quite so many noisy people/cars when we slept. Take lots of beer with you & hayfever pills (i kid not – the number of people that suddenly had it over there was funny!).

Definitely head to Arnage as stated above.

Also, it is WELL worth going to “la Chartes-sur-le-Loir”, a village a few kilometres further south.
The ‘Hotel de France’ (see pic) is in the main square of this village and was the place where the Aston Martin team used to billet in earlier years. The walls of the bar are covered with signed photos of the team drivers, the works cars and other people. Loads of people turn up to grab a beer, etc. I think it was either Thursday Friday that was a popular day to go there, before the action starts.
The cars we saw around that village were fantastic themselves, was a good afternoon’s trip & worth the drive through the countryside.

You’ll enjoy the trip there as much as the racing, it can be like one big convoy. :)

I went playing with smartphones at lunchtime.
Have to say, the HTC Magic underwhelmed me a little, and i worry about it being not very well supported (yet).
So, later on i’ll be ordering an HTC Touch Diamond2 on O2 – was reallllly nice to use & is pretty much a better spec’d phone all round from what I could tell.
Email/contacts integration is brilliant on them & there’s a new operating system update due in a few months that should fill in the cracks quite well.

The Nokia N97 will give a good go at wiping the floor with the iphone, when it’s released in June/July – worth holding off to play with one before making up your mind.

I’ve been tempted to get the htc magic, but reviews & comments on the various review sites haven’t been great – basically that the hardware (on that and the G1) is a bit crud, and the OS is obviously in its early stages.
FWIW, i’m probably going to get a blackberry storm as it’s still a decent phone without being an uber-geek smartphone.

I’ve got an older cane creek one, and it’s ok. The newer ones have better sealing so are improved too.

I was at InfoSec exhibition yesterday. In the case studies i read beforehand, this stuff seemed to be well liked by organisations that need something decent/quick/good value, etc.
    http://www.eset.co.uk/
I’ve not read up on reviews of it though.
Stay clear from symantec though, even their own website has security flaws on it! (although so do a couple of their competitors…) ;-)

Yeah you can get online PDF generators (i think adobe themself do one), could be easiest.

Otherwise, perhaps you can save it as an earlier version of word, before sending it out?

RE; Priddy, any of you guys going to the music (folk) festival later in the year? Looks interesting, even if just for the pleasant beverage consumption!

Anything’s better than nothing. If you can get one where you’re able to set the bass (at least) & treble on them, then yeah.
A former housemate had some but always had the volumes set high – you’re only just supposed to be able to make out the rear effects for best results IIRC.

I think the underground one by @Bristol, has won some awards for safety or something. Certainly seemed ok when I used it one night last year anyhow.
You’ve not got anywhere to store it where you’re staying then?

This happened in a previous house I rented. It turned out to be a tiny pinhole in the sealant letting it through whenever the shower was used. As 4 people used it, it didn’t take long to become apparent.
A maintenance guy put more sealant down but that didn’t work, so I pulled up the old stuff & laid new and it was fine after that.

Withdraw the money and remove your automatic payment bank card/account details from paypal to be sure! That’s what i’ve done before, just to make sure i get to keep hold of it, when ebay/paypal weirdness has gone on with me before…

Thanks for the suggestions guys, but being short on time this week to get down the LBS, i’ve ordered some grade 10 ones from a website. Will probably last longer than the hub but hopefully they’ll last a wee bit longer…

Nah, Lancs. is best by far & Yorkshiremen are all deluded fools.

Move up to Bristol or Exeter, not too far that it’s unfamiliar territory but bigger places & hopefully more opportunities for stuff to do & jobs.?
