and don't forgets it's rotating mass you're saving.

That argument only really works at the outside of a wheel.

    Bongo…….

I was thinking about how nice these T4's look, and how much even nicer the T5s look – and then I saw the cost. Oh Dear….

And then I read about Bongos, on here. Now I'm buying one.

i have 08 2-step but the 2-step drops 10mm instead of 45mm. hoping it is the oil levels that are wrong but due to the fact it was working fine to start with i'm guessing its a sodding workshop jobbie meaning i wouldn't get them back before we go away. awaiting some oil to arrive but am loath to take them apart only to find i'm unable to put back together due to fecked internals.

    sigh.

Alpin – These are not really difficult to sort out. Mine were going the other way – air getting trapped in the neg spring, which pushes them down on both settings. Phone TFT up and they will advise you accordingly (They are headset-ed up and are happy to advise while they work). Basically, dump the air, remove the top, set the oil level, fit the top and pump up again. Or pull out the whole spring and stick in a coil U-Turn one.

You only have one pair of eyes. don't mess with them.

Aye, what he said. My local optician is about £1 more for a 3 month supply of torics. Why would I give my money to some 'whoever' on the internet instead of the guy who knows about MY eyes, and who I can pop in to see if I have a problem, any time. (Even in the pub!)

Support your local <insert service here> or lose them!

Have you looked at Mazda Bongos?

Most common ones are 2.5TD, 4×4, 8 seater, slidey and/or foldy-up seats, with a bed in the lift-up roof.

They are not in the L/R Discovery league off road by any means, probably not as capable as the Delica either, but are definately more than capable of handling access to most UK trail centres, muddy fields, etc.

Various aftermarket camper conversions available to make them more interesting too.

My lyric 2-step’s sit low at the moment (135mm or 100mm). AFAIK pos air can leak into the neg side, and can’t get out again, pushing the fork down.

My mate’s lyrics have gone the other way, sitting high. 145/160. Not sure what’s going on inside to make them do that – maybe just neg air leaking out.

TF Tuned recommend swapping the spring for a coil U-Turn in both cases. Around £60

Have a look at the e71.

The camera is pretty shite, and the flash is overpowering within 3-5 feet (i.e. useless!)

Apart from that, it’s a damn fine phone. The standard wee leather holster it comes with makes it pretty robust too, and is pocket friendly. Battery life is reasonable for a standard phone, excellent for a smartphone. I get about 3-4 days between charges in normal use. Wee bit of GPS, some WiFi, plenty texts, 20 odd calls per day, bit of web browsing / snaptu use. And BBC iPlayer works on it!

This is the firt e-series Nokia I have had. It’s a bit of a revelation. I have previously suffered the nokia beta-testing programme that is the N-series (N80, N95 mk1) – both truly shocking phones. The e-series phones are so much better, but with the bells & whistles turned down a tad (like a crap camera)

IME, ‘needs’ can be substituted for ‘would be preferred’ on most job adverts.

If you can demonstrate that you have a good track record in industry, then a degree is just a bit of paper. I’ve got a HNC, and never had an issue with my lack of degree when going up for ‘must have a degree’ posts. I’ve also placed a few job ads, all of which asked for degrees – but I was happy to see anyone with decent history on their CV in lieu of a degree.

    HTH, IMO, etc.

    Windfarms? – As a cyclist it’s a definate NO!

Have the rest of you not noticed how much harder it’s become riding around recently since they started putting these bloody things up? It always seems to be windy now, and most of the time it’s headwinds that they create. Tear them down I say!

    It’s going to be expensive.

I paid around £75 to have a nomad shipped sheffield -> Inverness.

You can make it cheaper by:

    1. Accepting inadequate insurance cover.
    2. Splitting it into 2 boxes (Wheels in 1, frame in the other)

I wasn’t prepared to reduce insurance cover on an expensive bike, and I wanted the rear wheel fitted to make sure the chainring didn’t ‘eat’ its way out in transit.

If you can strip the chainset off, wheels off, forks off, etc, you ‘might’ get under the size limits which most couriers impose. (2xHeight + 2xwidth + length, usually limited to 3m or 3.5m added up)

In my case, I was buying the bike so I didn’t want too much stripping down.

Interparcel Titan service was what I went with (which ended up as CityLink in the end!)

Nokia n series – disappointment on all fronts.

Nokia e series – Wow, they CAN get it right!

    E71 for me, well pleased.

Not an iPhone competitor really, but a damn fine phone.

Don’t overlook the Mazda Bongos. Not as big as the VW T4/T5’s, but certainly big enough for 2. Most have factory fit lifting roofs, which you can sleep in but are more useful as headroom, and a place to bung all your gear when you are inside the van. In theory they sleep 4, but it would be ‘cosy’

Some are 3-row 8 seater MPVs, some are 2+3+1 6 seaters with a factory fit ‘kitchen cube’ in the very back, and there are lots with UK campervan conversions.

Most are 2.5 Turbo Diesel, 4WD and auto, although 2wd, petrol (2l 4 pot and 2.5 v6) and manual versions are knocking around.

And they are a lot cheaper like-for-like than VW’s, or any of the other options – but smaller. Very car-like to drive too.

I’m using an EEPC 900, which is excellent, but if I was spending my money again it would be one of those Samsungs. Nice kit indeed, and only £300ish. Either that or an EEEPC901 if I could find one mucho cheapo.

Try it on a moped. Used to do that in town all the time – gets the people behind you very confused. Guess I must have good balance, but I found it easy to just stop, stay upright then go as required.

Mine just started leaking (a tiny bit TBH) on the spring side after a day at Laggan.

I have an ongoing issue with the 2-step air managing to transfer pressure from +ve side to -ve side where it gets trapped, which makes them drop down to shorter travel (134mm at the mo, on the long setting!)

Give TF Tuned a bell. Their technicians are all ‘wired for sound’, so they can answer calls and give out advice whilst still working on jobs – they are happy to advise.

I called them and they were very helpful. I’ll be ordering a U-Turn coil conversion kit soon, as advised by them.

He’s right. You wouldn’t like it. Really. St Austell would be a better bet.

Or just wait till the pos spring air finds its way into the neg spring, and they’ll happily sit at 125mm like mine.

    Grrrr….

    I feel a U-Turn conversion coming on.

    No.

You provide multiple rooms. Sky stick a box in each room. They provide you with 2 cards with the same package programmed on them.

You will need one lead from the dish to each sky box, or 2 from the dish to each Sky+ box (so possibly 4 in total if you have 2 Sky+ boxes).

The Sky LNBs have 4 outputs.

Both boxes need to be connected to a phone line, which is the same number (so they can check that you didn’t move the 2nd box to a mates house). The phone lines both need to stay connected ‘permamantly’.

In reality, as long as they are connected most of the time you won’t have an issue. One of mine went duff a couple of times, and I got a nice letter asking me to fix it.

If you just wanted to watch the same channel in 2 rooms at the same time, all the sky boxes have always been able to do this – RF2 output, run a cable, etc. If you want to watch different channels in 2 rooms, then you need multiroom.

Get new inner cable and clean everything. If that doesn’t fix it, get a new front mech.

and if that doesent work try replacing the brakes…

failing that, check the tyre pressures really carefully.

I was out in the local woods a while ago, and say 2 slow-moving elderly collie dogs wandering towards me, followed by an even more slow moving and more elderly owner.

As is my usual practice, I slowed right down as I approached the first dog, and said hello to it. Normally, the majority of dogs who are excitable and look somewhat threatening are just looking for some attention, so I make a point of doing just that.

The first old collie just looked at me and carried on wandering past. His mate then got to me, and I said “hello”. He somewhat surprised me by saying “hello” back! I am not kidding here.

I waited a couple of mins for the old wifey who was with them – “I think your dog just said hello to me” – “Yes, he does that sometimes!”

Got to love the local woods. Something new every time I venture in there!
