“You supplied be 16 rolls out of 1000 ordered – what am I supposed to tell all the people in there?”

“Eh…… Go on the Atkins Diet?”

Classic telly. If I’d been the customer, there would have been blood though.

Nokia 5500 Sport. Only available second hand or NOS now, but very rugged. Tiny screen in comparison with modern offerings, but still do web, email, MMS, and even phone calls. Can be dunked in a pint as a party piece with no ill effects.

Just done a 3750 mile round Europe, Scotland – Slovenia & back. Didn't miss a beat. Not ideal for the longer trips though, more suited to weekends away.

SprocketJockey's comment is kind of why these Bongos are popular – very car-like to drive, good nick for their age (as long as they've been waxoyled on import). They are a bit on the small side – but suits me since I'm a short arse!

    Have you considered Wrexham?

E series Nokias are a world apart from the N series etc.

The E71 has now been replaced by the E72, so you should be able to pick up a bargain E71 on the web somewhere. Cracking phone. I just sold mine for £60. (Got a HTC Desire, but sounds like this wouldn't be for you)

    Last? Download festival, so Aerosmith.

Next? T in the park, so probably start off with the Editors.

I'd give it a miss. Until it snows at least.

+1 for Bongos and Bongo Fury

Good compromise if you want to use them every day as a car, albeit a bit heavy on fuel. Can't really get a bike inside overnight though, unless you sleep upstairs. Smaller than comparable VWs, but a heap more for your money.

I think it's a pity that the english don't have a national anthem to sing, so have to borrow the UK one.

If you're scared of FB perhaps you need to lie down in a darkened room…

However, if you are scared of SFB, that's entirely rational and normal. :-)

Either way, the whole Scotland experience will be a let down. Have you considered Wrexham?

IMO companies / industry in general will call their staff whatever they want to in order to impress potential / existing clients / customers etc.

Since completing my further education (RAF Apprenticeship) I've been labelled Junior Technician, Installation & Communication technician, commissioning engineer, project engineer, project manager, support engineer, operations manager, telecomms technician. Each with more pay than the last (in that order) and with no additional qualifications.

    What he said ^

For serious off roading, I'd be looking at a Delica. For more road based use with a bit of light off-roading (forest tracks, the odd grass bank, snowy roads etc) a 4WD Bongo is a good bet.

Similar issues – Engine's a wee bit buried, cooling system doesn't stand abuse, thirsty on diesel. Very versatile vehicle though. Tin top ones are a bargain, pop-tops a wee bit dearer.

Bongo Fury's the place to go.

Communards. "Don't leave me this way"
Cher. "If I could turn back time"
Queen. "I want to break free"
Kaiser Chiefs "Every day I love you less and less"
    Killers. "Somebody told me"
    Smiths. "Girlfriend in a coma"

    Scottish.

Lived at both ends of the UK, and worked with lots of people from all over the UK. Nothing against any of them or any part of the UK (or anywhere else for that matter).

When the door opens, I can see 25 miles of North Sea, a few oil & gas platforms (Heimdal, Harding, Berly-A, Beryl-B) and some volcanic ash drifting down. (OK, I can't see it but I know it's there).

What I can't see is any helicopters. Which is bad news.

What do you think you are doing, you maniac? Your training is in Helicopters – how can you possibly know how to get a tractor engine going. 8O

The world's gone mad I tell thee. I thought it was just us in the UK, but you've confirmed that 'the plague' has spread all the way round now.

    • build a 12v battery pack from 10 AA batteries??

That would be a 15v pack?

Anyhow – to the OP. Get a 3G smapartphone, with Wi-Fi, and tether it to your laptop.

This is where your 3G phone acts as a Wi-Fi hotspot for your laptop. Some providers charge extra for this – for example if you have a iPhone it costs – others it's just part of your normal data use, as the provider can't tell the difference. I use a Nokia E71 on O2 with unlimited data.

    Simples.

AFAIK, you can get them specially shaped for left and right feet these days. :-)

I've got a Kona Cowan frame with slidey dropouts – and dome-headed steel allen bolts. Very soft heads, and very easy to round out. Crap design really.

Unfortunately not. I'll ask him when he phones in again.

What I can tell you is that there's no point in rushing to Paris for a euro$tar train before Wednesday evening. He got a 1st class seat, and it was about fully booked then (17:00 train).

    He's a bit of a luddite, and hasn't got a mobile phone so I can't call him. (And he's a telecomms engineer!)

Edit: This might be a decent place to start looking.

My mate got a bus from Barcelona to Marseilles yesterday, then a night train to Paris. The short phone call I had from him he mentioned something about a french strike meant he had to do the first bit by bus. Not sure if it's just the Spain – France border bit though.

Now he's in Paris, he's managed to get on the next available eurostar – Wednesday night (and 1st class only!)
