I might give £7 another go over the weekend. Put the DVD on earlier so I can stay awake!

Sounds like you have done everything right so far. Try leaving the system assembled, bleed nipples tight, calipers low down, levers high up, something inbetween the pads (bit of wood, or the disc if they are on the bike), and pull the lever hard. Hold it in the ‘pulled on’ position with a tywrap or bungee etc and leave it overnight.

Don’t forget to loiter around at the top of the Guinness storehouse. Amazing how many people get their perfect free pint, take one sip and declare “Oh no, I can’t drink that!”. Step up the practised minesweeper. Managed to have about 8 freebies up there before my wife called me from the shop to say she was ready. Don’t remember the rest of the day much….

Oh bloody hell, why oh why did I read this thread.

I’ve just got over a Travian addiction, and am trying to wean myself off mob wars and mafia wars – now this. :o

ASDA. They do a trews and jacket set which look pretty flimsy, but in use are actually damn fine. Trews pack down pretty small too so if you do get lucky you can stick them in your bag and go without.

Been looking for a replacement for my Nokia 5500 Sport, since my contract has run its course and I can upgrade.

There doesn’t seem to be anything on the market which can compete in the real world. So, I have got a E71 for flash-ness, but I will be using the 5500 on the bike, on the slopes, etc.

Waterproof, accelerometer in it – reasonable pedometer built in, Symbian S60 – lots of decent add-on apps available if you are so inclined, Bluteooth GPS and nokia Sport tracker works well, drop-proof, pretty indestructible really. Screen’s a wee bit on the small side, but if you just need good reliable call and text functionality when you are out and about it’s not a problem.

Mine regularly gets dunked in pints of Guinness when I’m to pished to know better, and it’s never shown any signs of giving up. Also been dropped in the mud, stood on and generally abused. Built-in torch too which comes in surprisingly handy.

New-ish ones are <£100 on the bay, second hand tatty ones about £50.

Anyone want to buy a E71?

Used sussex model centre before – Can only praise the service I got there. Was a while ago, but all went smoothly. Bought online from them, so I can’t say what the ‘walk in and browse’ experience is like.

A manager who thought that a) It was acceptable to order 12 months stock to get a new telly, and b) Thought he’d get away with it – deserves to be sacked for being a fcukwit, never mind the gross misconduct and theft (guilty x2)

Another one in the oil industry here, and also self employed, so I’m on a salary of £420 / month. Overall income is over £70K depending on number of days worked, and how much I leave in the company etc. 2 weeks on, 3 weeks off. Suits me, but it’s not for everyone I suppose.

The estates are not good in the snow or ice though as I found out just before Christmas with mine

Get a quattro of some type – they are bloody amazing in the slippy stuff.

Second the A4 recommendations – the Allroad is a cracking car, but if anything is a wee bit to big and ‘lorry’ like for me. Quick A4 next time I think.

If you look around you might just get an A6 Allroad for that sort of money. I manage reasonable (30-ish) mpg out of a 2.5TDi one, got reasonable ooomph, bags of space inside (and on top), with the added bonus that it can cope with the occasional dodgy muddy bit – like where bikes like to set off from.

Goes up and down too, which is handy.

about 15 miles of stormy North Sea in every direction. Beryl-A and Beryl-B platforms if the weather’s nice, and some Norwegian ones if I go along the walkway a wee bit.

Fit (in doric) is the only word you can use to make up a whole sentence – "Fit fit fits fit fit?"

You really need to hear it spoken to have a hope of understanding it though….

Got to be the Balvenie Doublewood for me. First rate birthday present. In fact, that’s what I gave Devs for his 40th, so it must be OK.

If you like the smoother speysides, but fancy something a wee bit smokey, have a look at Ardmore. Damn fine.

You can still buy Izal medicated in the supermarkets.

It’s like greaseproof paper with flint chippings embedded in it. It smears the sh1te up your back and rips your ar5e to tatters in one go.

Leave her a couple of rolls of that and see how she gets on!

Bleed brakes before you go, you won’t get fade

What Dibbs said. Bleeding has nothing to do with fade. That’s all about heat in the pads, and the compound changing its friction coefficient as the temp rises.

With un-bled brakes you just get a spongy feel as you are compressing the gas (air) in the lines – you can’t compress a liquid, which is why these hyd brakes work in the first place.

    However:
What you can get with air in the lines, if it is near to the caliper is the air expanding due to the heat build-up (the high altitude / low outside pressure making this worse). You then get into the realm of the brakes binding due to the residual pressure on the pads once you have let go of the levers (vapour lock). Pads rub, heat up more, brakes fade, you squeeze harder against the bubbles, compress them more, apply little more pressure to the pads, you don’t stop.

Also a good idea to make sure your brakes are bled before you stick the bike in the hold of an aircraft, or you may end up with the low pressure expanding the bubbles in the lines and forcing the fluid out – probably onto your pads.

You mean “This Charming Man” ?

    A punctured bicycle
    On a hillside desolate
Will nature make a man of me yet ?

    When in this charming car
    This charming man

    Why pamper life’s complexity
    When the leather runs smooth
    On the passenger seat ?

    I would go out tonight
But I haven’t got a stitch to wear
This man said “It’s gruesome that someone so handsome should care”

    A jumped up pantry boy
    Who never knew his place
    He said “return the ring”
He knows so much about these things
He knows so much about these things

    I would go out tonight
But I haven’t got a stitch to wear
This man said “It’s gruesome that someone so handsome should care”
    Na, na-na, na-na, na-na, this charming man …
    Na, na-na, na-na, na-na, this charming man …

    A jumped up pantry boy
    Who never knew his place
    He said “return the ring”
He knows so much about these things
He knows so much about these things
He knows so much about these things

    I would go out tonight
But I haven’t got a stitch to wear
    Oh, la-la, la-la, la-la, this charming man …
