Am keen to try a G9 or G10 but

Where are you based? Welcome to try mine out if you are close.

Bought a G10 recently, following lots of reading. I was after a ‘decent’ or ‘proper’ camera, but I was well aware that anything as big as a DSLR would sit gathering dust whilst I was out looking at nice things wondering where my camera was.

The only negative on reviews seems to be centred around the fact that the image sensor is ‘compact’ size, and has too many pixels for the size really. This gives rise to poor quality (high image noise) in low light / high ISO settings.

Not suffered this myself yet, but I’m sure I will in time.

Until then though, it goes pretty much everywhere (except the pub!). It is ‘just’ small enough to be carted around, and very rugged.

Bottom line – I’m taking photos again after a long period of not taking photos, so it’s all good!

As Uplink says, the Out of Office reply is a Server function. Outlook (in an office) connected to a MS Exchange server just tells the server what to say if it receives mail for you.

With Outlook Express, this functionality just isn’t there. There is no capability in the link between you (Outlook Express) and your mail server (your ISP) to make this happen.

Can you log into your mail via the web, i.e. in a Web cafe etc? If your ISP hosts a webmail page, then there may be a setting on there to do this.

    As ever “It all depends…”

Marine aerial clamp arm purloined from work bolted to the front of the workbench. holds the bike 500mm out from the bench, by the seatpost. Well solid. Even has a built-in magnetic tray for odds and sods.

not got a picture handy though.

Lots of current modern small engined thingys use a 2-stroke with a pre-mix (i.e. DIY) fuel system. Generators, pressure washers, strimmers, hedge trimmers, and indeed lawnmowers.

Run them on petrol without the oil, and you’ll only do it once. Run a 4-stroke on oily petrol, and it will smoke a bit and run crap, but it’ll be OK afterwards.

Head tube / down tube / top tube interface looks a bit weak. Could do with some additional bracing there. :-)

Is anyone happy with their ISP?

I am. I’m with Nildram. Who were bought by Pipex. Who were bought by Tiscali. And now Talk Talk.

TBH, I’ve never seen any change since I started with nildram. My bill still says Nildram, the service seems the same. Never had to call customer services (thankfully).

    Here’s hoping for more indifference.

    They are apparently NATO MilSpec

    – Anyone’s guess who they are issued to, but that crow’s foot under the middle of the face is indeed a military / NATO marking.

(Just like most of the tools in my garage) – Did I say that out loud?

Just started using a set of SLXs. Have removed some Juicy 7’s. The 7’s worked OK, but were very on/off. The SLXs in comparison feel ever so slightly soft when doing a driveway test. However, they are a huge improvement in real use. Round Laggan the other day they were excellent – I didn’t have any worry about them at all. They were good to the point that I did comment “thank **** I swapped these for those bloody Avids”.

Can’t comment on reliability so far, but as Cynic-al says, they are usually faultless. My old 4-pot XTs on t’other bike have been.

Went to see the Stranglers last year in Inverness – they were excellent.

But the surprising part was the support act. Starbase 109. Complete with anti-radiation helmets. Just plain **** weird.

Must admit, I enjoyed their set too!

slightly off centre but all that evened up

Good plan – I’d never have thought that would work, but I s’pose once one pad is on the rim, the other has to follow, and if you offset the spring tensions, they’ll pretty much move together…

These ‘U’ brakes are generally pretty useless.

If you have 2 cable end stops either side of the seat tube, you are pretty stuck with a 2-cable run, with all it’s inefficiencies.

Best bet is to strip the lot down and make sure all the pivots and cable runs are clean. Lube the pivots when you reassemble, and lube the cables. Also lube the top cable, where it initially splits into 2 as well – lots of friction here too.

The only other option is to drill a hole for a direct cable run from the lever. If the brake is mounted down on the chainstays, which makes life awkward, you could drill through the seat tube and fit a threaded cable stop / adjuster on the front side.

    Good Luck………

edit – slow typing – just seen the other comments. :-)

Ton – assuming that this is rim brakes, not disc, set the pads / shoes so they are very slightly ‘toe-in’. Use a thin shim (cut up credit card, etc) between the back of the pad and the rim, and set the pad so the front hits the rim when the back hits the shim. And make sure that there’s no wear in the pivots etc.

Thinking about getting one, as they seem cheaper / more adaptable than the VW ones around.
